Who is your favorite TV chef and what's your favorite recipe from them?

If we're counting streaming, I like Chef John and his Food Wishes channel. I make his Red Beans And Rice all the time:

If it's TV only, I like Ina Garten. Her herb roasted turkey breast is our Thanksgiving turkey recipe (used to do Alton Brown's brined turkey but it was a chore and we only like white meat, anyway):

I have a turkey breast in the freezer,. Have you ever used dry herbs instead of fresh. i have tons that I dehydrated frim last summer.

I love lots of cooks/chefs/food writers. But I particularly love Ina Garten's style of cooking....she will never call herself a chef. And Melissa Clarke's recipes on the New York Times Cooking section are always top notch.

I haven't tried dried herbs but I think they'd work fine. Generally, dried herbs will be more potent so you'd use less (about 1/3 the amount of fresh).

In our regular rotation -
paula dean Mac and cheese, as well as her collard greens
ina garten shrimp scampi
jacques pepin coleslaw

We used to watch her just for the entertainment value. Her use of prepared foods drove my wife nuts.
One show she gave tips on dolling up her favorite take out Chinese food for the ranch hands. The food came from Panda Express.
Or her episode on how to customize boxed Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.
My husband says the same thing about Ree Drummond. Lately she’s always popping the top off of an already prepared sauce or opening cans and just plopping them in a pot.

Chris Kimball from America's Test Kitchen (I do know that he's not a chef but any segment with him in it instantly makes me think I can cook). I like Alton Brown too. His garlic mashed potatoes might be my favorite recipe of his.

i don't have one but i used to admire justin wilson b/c he could hand measure with complete accuracy.

His was the first cooking show I'd watched regularly (after a few Galloping Gourmet rerun episodes) -- loved the hand measuring (and the wine drinking!).

I like watching The Pioneer Woman occasionally. I don’t care if she opens cans or uses already prepared ingredients.

In years past my wife and I enjoyed The Barefoot Contessa and Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals.

I like Anne Burrell’s hairstyle.

No favorite recipes, but we have at least one cookbook from each of the above.

I love Ina Garten. She's so comforting to watch. She and Jeffrey are relationship goals. If you've never watched her "Day Drinking" segment with Seth Meyers, go do so. It's hilarious.

Probably my favorite recipe of her is a beef stew.

Love:

*Ina Garten and her warm shrimp cocktail. Need to try her brownie recipe one day

*Molly Yeh- I literally love most of what she cooks. But sadly haven’t tried a lot! One day

*Pioneer Woman- now I am aware her recipes aren’t so much recipes as they are mixed of stuff HOWEVER her Walmart line of pans (including this Dutch oven style one we haven’t found since) are AMAZING. Not dishwasher safe, but worth it. Cutting boards are meh. Did enjoy her stovetop hot chocolate once

*Michael D. Symone- love him. Still never tried any of his recipes that I saved!

*Not TV but on Facebook there is Marion Grasby who is I want to say Chinese and Australian (I know she is mixed race and one half is Australian but I might be wrong on her mothers country of origin). She makes awesome Asian inspired cuisine. Spicy peanut soup was delicious.

I used to love giada, but something had turned me off even before she switched networks.

I haven’t tried a rachel ray or Sunny recipe in a while. Same with Guy.

I have a love hate feel for Geoffrey Zakarian. He can be a bit stand offish but makes a lot of interesting dishes and also teaches proper ways of cleaning. Alex Garneschelli I do not like at all but she does have some awesome recipes (homemade ranch is amazing). Katie Hall I’m meh on.

I really want to try some of Kardea Brown’s recipes-especially her gumbo!

I don’t watch many cooking shows but do use different chef’s recipes.

My favorite recipe is Ina Gartin’s prime rib. It’s our Christmas go to.

I find that Pioneer woman’s often have cook time mistakes.

Alton Brown and his Good Eats shows are my favorite. He taught me to carve a turkey.
He taught me how to clean and portion filet. I have shared his tricks over the years to many people who get scared at the grocery store when they see the whole fillet and they don't see any cut medallions. Much better value and much better meat to cut yourself.

I don't think A. Brown does any current shows. The ones I have seen in the past always included a lot of what sounded like pseudo-scientific mumbo/jumbo that didn't seem to have anything to do with how the dish was prepared. It mostly seemed like a gimmick he used to be different from other cooking shows.

Same. I was already annoyed by her constantly rolling dough in her super low cut tops. (The only reason my husband watched her show with me. 😂) But also she just became increasingly off-putting.

That said, I learned how to make the perfect meatballs and sauce from scratch from Giada so can’t knock her. I also love her zucchini al forno and make it all the time. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/verdure-al-forno-recipe-1941201

Food Network did a brief revival of Good Eats last year sometime with some new episodes. Otherwise, he's been doing streaming "shows" on YouTube since the pandemic started. More of a live stream of consciousness show where he does a little cooking, a fair amount of drinking and a lot of general discussion about everything.

Fun fact about the Pioneer Woman: Her husband is one of the richest landowners in the country. So, I have a hard time believing her down-home schtick. I still love her mashed potatoes though. Lol.

Excerpt about her husband…

In 2013, Modern Farmer placed the Drummond Family on its list of America's 100 top landowners. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Drummonds own 433,000 acres of land in Oklahoma. In addition to the money made by cattle, part of that land is rented to the U.S. government to allow wild burros and horses to roam on it. The cost to the U.S. government is about $2 million a year.

Between land, cattle, horses, and part ownership of some of the Pioneer Woman's stores and ventures, Ladd Drummond is worth an estimated $200 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
