This storm will be another day in the life for us in Southern Ontario. We just got through a 5-day blizzard and the kids had 5 canceled school days in a row. All of our roads were closed and untold pileups on the highways. Here we are shoveling yesterday to get ready for the next wallop...

Don't know if this has been suggested, or is common knowledge, but for those of you who need to shovel, a suggestion to spray some non-stick cooking spray on the shovel before you start. It helps the snow slide off.

Snow is great if inside looking out, but I will be in an airport waiting on a flight that may never come.

Definitely not the norm here. Most people who use shutoff methods here are forced for bleed their entire system (advised to have it done by a pro) and then shut off water completely until temps make it safe to turn the water back on for the entire house. Sounds like a nice feature to request if we were to do new construction.

Our outdoor spigots drain about a foot back when we turn them off. We have never had a freezing problem, or even out outdoor well. Insulated on top with cover and that's all we do. Some people say you need to put a light bulb in but we've never had to do it.

I've started stressing about how much money I'll be throwing away in groceries when my power goes out and stays out for over 48 hours. People who were in this area for the last major ice storm had no power for a week or longer. My fridge is almost empty other than eggs and condiments and I plan on moving the rest of the fridge's contents to my unheated garage. The freezer on the other hand is full which would be a good thing if power was only out for a day, but very expensive after the 2 day mark

what are the outdoor temps going to be like-below freezing? does you non heated garage go below freezing (if insulated probably not but depending on how low the temps get it's not unheard of where we live). the issue you can get with a freezer absent power is the temp starts RISING and then it can get warmer inside of it then it is in the room it's sitting in or outside. what some folks in our neck of the woods will do (if you don't have wild critters that will get into it) is put frozen foods in open coolers (or bags) on their porches or decks b/c the outside temp will maintain those foods in a frozen status even during 'warmer' periods of the day. as an example-we are not in your uber fridged situation right now but it's still cold so right now (noonish our time) outside it's 23 degrees while my non heated but insulated garage is sitting at 45 degrees. it can buy you days and (depending on the outdoor temps) up to a week or more of time.

not cold enough for the frozen stuff. It's 33 degrees right now, the low tomorrow is due to be 24 degrees. I know I'm taking my chances with the stuff from the fridge

I'm in Missouri and crews have already been out pre-treating roads, up to and including our residential neighborhood streets.

Forecast here is 3-6" of snow, not an unusual amount for a winter storm.

Yes I know you're in Jackson County but not in KCMO.

Liberty, MO advised they won't be pre-treating because of the temps. KCMO said they pre-treated earlier this week. Most cities in JoCo pretreated but advised it won't be as effective so pack your patience.

Where I am at in the metro at was at a line that was anticipated to be anywhere between 4 and 7 inches but am close to a line of potentially 6-8 inches (that was last updated last night figures from 5 different news stations). They do think there is a potential for less accumulation for the upper range. It hinges on the second system now and will likely be less than that upper range, It's a very light but consistent snow. 7 inches in one system isn't the norm that we get. 3-5 inches is fine (especially 3 inches which is more normal for a system we more often get). You know living here in the metro that the snowfall and impacts can vary heavily depending on where you live and how the storm hits sometimes north gets it way worse sometimes south gets it way worse, sometimes KS gets hit harder sometimes MO gets harder and sometimes it's isolated even harder impacts. I'd be very pleased with a lot less snow considering my husband's flight (fingers crossed) Monday afternoon.

Okay, our snowfall accumulation estimate just went up AGAIN from 12"-18" up to 18-24". It's been a a few years since we've had totals like that from any single storm so I'm a bit skeptical. Their batting average isn't great so I guess we'll see. The upside to this storm is because of the temps the snow will be fluffy for us in New England so that does help a bit.

Went up here, too... I thought we'd be escaping it this far north, but now the total keeps increasing. The New England Weather Guy added my area to what he's calling the "jackpot zone" with 20-24 inches... no one else is saying that high for here, so hopefully, he's wrong.

The worst of it is getting ready to hit here in DFW. Lots of sleet and snow (hopefully no freezing rain this time cause it's now 19 degrees). Phone is saying 3-5 inches between tonight and 7 a.m. tomorrow. Got potato soup in the crockpot, about to start some cornbread and also baked homemade peanut butter cookies (literally 3 ingredients ... natural peanut butter with just peanuts and oil, an egg and sugar as well as EVOO spray). Easiest thing ever.

They are saying the temp will be around 12 degrees tomorrow morning and we will get waves of sleet and some snow overnight. Schools are already cancelled for Monday because temps won't be over freezing till Wednesday morning.

I had to come back from Disney a day early to miss the storm so not happy lol. I did make tortellini soup, lettuce wraps, and egg rolls to eat over the next few days and freeze. I have some work, a puzzle, books, and will watch some TV and movies.

Yep, we're in Denton County here. Crappy weather. My boss lives in Corinth and went to Denver Thursday (supposed to fly home tomorrow, but they changed to Monday). My coworker went to Disney Thursday (APs and booked it once they found out about the storm, flying home Monday as well). Hopefully y'all stay safe and good. Looks like it's going to be all sleet and snow from here on out, so that's good. Got all faucets running (not just dripping) and cabinets open.
