Who Is Ready For Some Snow This Weekend?

Our forecast has changed and now we're expecting snow AND ice! All day on Sunday. Total accumulation between Saturday night and Sunday is predicted to be at least a foot.

I spent yesterday going over my travel insurance in case we can't make it to the cruise terminal on Monday. I  think we're covered but we all know how insurance works. The storm will have petered out by Monday morning here. I guess we will see.

Keeping a good thought for those of you in its path. We have a whole-house generator, so losing power is not a concern for us but I'm praying for all of you who aren't as lucky. I've lived thru an extended unexpected power outage in the winter and it was mentally exhausting.

Not looking forward to it. I don't mind a few inches. I can shovel some and always have and helped my DH here and there. Now solo, bad lower back and not 20/30 years old anymore. One of my sons does come over when really bad but wish that was not the case (20/25 mins. drive - not good when one should be off the roads) and not only are they taking care of their own snow, but some elderly neighbors also.

Be safe everyone!!!

No that's not what I'm meaning. I'm not saying Disney has a policy for when people have hurricanes affecting their travel plans at home.

You said "Got bounced between 3 different Disney and DVC departments. Endies up paying cash. It just seemed so customer no service. I remember when Hurricane Sandy hit and it was a totally different story. Great customer service."

You were talking about needing to adjust your Disney trip due to the winter storm and were calling Disney and spoke about customer service. Disney has an official hurricane policy if a hurricane is set to impact their operations, but other weather they do not and they don't have policies for when weather is affecting outside of their own operations. So when Sandy hit you would have had a different experience with Disney. Just like when Irma hit and Matthew hit hurricane policies went into affect at Disney during those times.
Sandy didn't hit Orlando, it hit the northeast. Mostly NY/NJ.

We were originally expecting this storm to go south of us(for once!) but as of yesterday afternoon and this morning it has shifted north so now we are under some winter storm watches and looking to get between 9-18" depending on the model. Couple that with below zero wind chills starting tonight through Sunday...good times! We are already out of staff snow days in our district so we may be working remotely tomorrow and Monday. That wouldn't bother me at all...I'm already home today due to a water main break near my school. Stay warm and safe everyone!

We are starting to get some 'projected' totals out of the forecasters. Right now we are on the line of 8-12" & 12-18" so we will see. Honestly, I'm ready for some snow. I prefer not to get the ice - but no control over that if we do. I'll be waiting and watching to see how much is changes between now & Friday evening.
You are in MD, right? I'm in Montgomery County and am seeing 5-8" Saturday night, 8-12" Sunday and an inch of snow/ice Sunday night.

I am so ready. I'm making a full turkey dinner to celebrate. I love snow and live in a snow hole so this is my second favorite time of the year (snowstorms). Thanksgiving is my first favorite, hence the turkey dinner. :) I had Covid for Thanksgiving so I missed it. :( This is my do-over.

Yup, on the eastern shore in QA Cty. - go over the bridge and drive straight for about 30 minutes!
I'm not gonna lie - I'm ready as well! I totally love the turkey dinner idea! I should have taken the one out of the freezer I had....I just placed a instacart order with a hefty tip for delivery later today...my BIL manages a local grocery store and gave me the heads up they got deliveries today and to order now:rolleyes: cause folks have lost their ever loving minds as if none of them will be leaving the house again.
I have a Dr. appt. in Annapolis Monday afternoon that I'm fairly sure they'll cancel. I wonder how this will effect the first weekend of the Polar Bear Plunge?

I am in MD as well!

People around here panic when there's more than an inch of snow predicted. With a storm like this, they lose their ever-loving minds! I was doing my regular grocery shopping on Tuesday and people were stocking up as if they would be snowed in for a month!

Yep, same here in DFW. Went Tuesday because our pantry and fridge were empty. There were people with 3-4 cases of water, 2-3 things of TP, 2-3 gallons of milk. Media drives panic buying like this. They're telling people to fill up their cars, yet they're telling people to stay off the road. Doesn't make any sense.

I was surprised how packed the grocery store was this afternoon. It's still early, storm could shift, predictions here run from 5" to 10" possibly. I'm on standby in case grandson's preschool is closed on Monday.
Are you in an area that is about to get extreme cold?

For us the storm system begins Friday evening but the extreme cold hits tonight with a potential for school closures based on wind chill tomorrow. Friday (tomorrow) the windchill the whole day will be below zero.

They are telling us locally that today (Thursday) is the last day you should be taking to prepare for the storm between cold and snow potential.

They've pretty much taken all snow out of our forecast in DFW. Now it's sleet and ice. Praying for more sleet as it's less dangerous (although still dangerous). I'll be gathering our flashlights tonight (no candles as I'm allergic to fragrances). But I might go to the dollar store and get a couple just for this type of situation.
As well as the candles mentioned:

Something we have that has come in handy in past power outages were these. There's a lot of different kinds but these were the ones we have came in a pack of 4. I have 1 always on standby in our bedroom under the side table. Too late to get it for this weekend but just something to consider for the future. These are bright but they they help give light to a bigger area and you can adjust how far up you want to put it so you don't have to have it on the full level, pushing it down far enough just turns it off. We have also used them (the primary reason we got them) for our backyard when we have firepit nights as it's very dark in our backyard and it helps us see to walk people back to the house and help us see to use the hose to put out the fire.

Another thing, that potentially could be available at the store for you now are these touch lights I grew up with which can be affixed to the wall, under a cabinet or just laid flat. There's a variety of brands too. They will give off a softer glow than the above things I mentioned and my mom would stash them around in different places around the house for power outages. They were okay but I did tend to find them to be finicky at times. Still they were easy to use.

Both items take batteries so you'd have to ensure you had them in stock but if you're already going to use flashlights it'd be easy to ensure you have more batteries for other things (I believe the above two things typically take AA batteries).

Do your laundry!!!

Trust me, if you lose power, you'll wish you had done it. I have a "Storm To-Do List" and laundry is at the top!
Yes! And don't forget towels or any blankets or bedding you were going to wash in the next several days just do it now if you can.

Also dishwasher if you've got dishes piling up I'd at least do a load (two if you have a lot of dishes ready to wash).

Well, the dog sitter offered to come on Saturday before the storm hits so that we can head to northern Jersey ahead of the storm. After spending 90 minutes on the phone and online, I have a room booked and our car service modified. The neighbor even offered to snowplow our driveway once the storm subsides. It's costing us a significant premium for the changes but my anxiety level has dropped significantly.

Stay safe and warm, everyone!
