Who is going in August

:sad1: We had our car completely die on us this weekend and the cost to replace it will wipe out my vacation account :sad1:

we're very upset to have to cancel....we had everything booked (not fully paid for thankfully) and we have to try to recoup what we can to pay for either the repair or a replacement!

I was really looking foreward to seeing DL for the first time :sad1:

Please take Mrs. M. Mouse off the list for august....maybe we'll get there next year!

So sorry to hear this. Hope you make it next year.

August is almost here!:cool1:I am usually in hyper plan mode when we are going to Disney World, but I have not done much planning for our Disneyland trip. Do any of you guys use Ridemax or the Unofficial Huide when planning your DLR days? I use Tour Guide Mike for WDW and like to have a good game plan in place for each day. Any recommendations?

I don't have any recommendations but am curious too...3 weeks yesterday until we leave for California...3 weeks this coming Monday and we'll be in Disneyland!

I know our first day in DLR won't start until late afternoon so we're just going to wing it that day--wander and enjoy a few rides, hopefully just take it all in.

Days 2-5 need to be planned. We'll have one Magic Morning and one Toontown morning (do I have those right?) so I have to figure out what days we should use those.

Anyhow...babbling...anyone have advice?

Ridemax may be helpful to you. I like it better than the plans in UOG. I was disappointed in the UOG to DLR. I have the 2009 version, so maybe they have fixed it. But the 2009 is just the WDW version copied word for word in most places.

For example, it says we have the Enchanted Tiki Room- Under New Management. Well, we don't. Ours is the original that Walt built. But someone didn't bother to check that and just stuck in the WDW description.

There is a cartoon in the book that shows moms with strollers and barb wire and it says they are staking out viewing spots for Fantasmic. However, the water in the background isn't the Rivers of America, it looks like the pics I've seen of Epcot with the different countries across the water instead of the island. They couldn't even be bothered to make up new illustrations. :confused3

It also says TSMM has a fastpass, but it doesn't! Again, just copied from WDW without thought or fact checking.

So, read it if you want and just keep in mind, it might not be right. Don't know if they fixed those things or not. I should check the new one sometime.
Biggest help- arrive before opening, get FPs as often as you can, and park hop. If you have MM do FL that day. If not, do it first on a non MM day. If you have a few must eat at places, make PSs for them so you can plan around them.

Myself and *NikkiBell* will be there at Paradise Pier from August 5- 10.

If we arrive in the afternoon on our first day, I often like to go ride Toy Story. My reason for this is that I know the line is going to be around 45 minutes most anytime anyway, so why not ride it then when lines for other rides are also 45 minutes or more but might actually be shorter at some other time.
Other afternoon favorites for us are Tiki Room, IASW, Pirates, Buzz. You can usually still get fastpass with reasonable return window for Buzz and Thunder in the afternoon. Animation building, Muppets, Bugs movie are also all good afternoon things.
If your timing is good, a first afternoon is sometimes a nice time to catch the parade or go see the Billies in the Golden Horseshoe.

If you have an early entry day, I would recommend using it as soon as possible in your trip when you're all still fresh. My family uses it's early morning time for Fantasyland and/or riding Space Mountain a bunch.

Hi everyone. I am new to these boards. My DH and I are going to Disneyland August 12-16. We are from Colorado. DH has a training starting the 16th, so we are going out a little early to have fun, I will fly back on the 16th and he will do his training and fly back the 20th. We are leaving our 2 kids with Grandma and Grandpa, so it is just the 2 of us. YEA!! Some alone time for us! We are staying at the GCH. I am so excited! We were just at DLR and the GCH in June with the whole family (DH, me, DS (3), DS (9 months), Grma, Grpa, and Uncle). We were there only 2 days and with the kids and G&G, we didn't get to do much. We are really looking forward to being able to go wherever we want, whenever we want, stay up as late as we want, and to not have to worry about naps, diapers, bottles, etc. I know that sounds selfish (I guess it is), but we are very much looking forward to it!

We just booked yesterday for 8/16-8/21 at GCH! Me, DH, Ds(15), Dd(10) and bringing along Dd's friend who is also 10! Booked a Costco package getting 2 extra days for staying 3 and it includes character dining-better deal than I could get booking hotel and buying tickets and meal all individually.
We had NO plans to do Disneyland at all this summer. We just came back from Alaska! We used to have APs and live by San Francisco but that was when dd was 6 and she can't remember much even though we went a ton of times. She begged Dh to go and I had the shock of my life when he said yes on the condition we stay at one of the resort hotels so he can relax. He doesn't like crowds or the heat or the fast pace we usually do at DL between getting up early for mm and staying until DL closes, he comes home exhausted. So the kids and I will just do our marathons and let Dh sleep in.

Not too thrilled at staying at GCH because of the almost sure possibility of someone not getting a bed. We usually stay at DLH but we didn't want to take a chance on being near construction. Still, no one will be happy if we get a sleeping bag so we'll bring along a cot or airbed.

We always come home exhausted but usually satisfied with the trip. Since we do not lay around at home it is hard for us to do so on our vacation. I can not remember the last time any of us were in bed at 0700, even the 4 kids.

Jack

I agree blackjackdelta, but it is really hard on the kids to do early entry and stay up late to do fireworks, fantasmic, etc.. At 10 and 15, they won't do naps but I sure can-lol. DH just wants a "vacation" and a slow pace so we'll leave him behind. I asked him yesterday if he just wanted us to rent him a cabana at the pool and he can lay around and watch sports, drink beer and swim and just come get him for an occasional ride. DS is counting on him to ride the big ones so we'll see but it's hard to go with someone who is not Disney obsessed (and more like bordering hatred-ack.)

We come home on Saturday and everyone goes back to school on Sunday so they will have one whole day to rest up and get ready for school. They can sleep on the car ride home!
