The finger/toe/eye crossing stuff must have worked because our trip is a-go! Vacations were approved all around and we managed to get our flights.:goodvibes August 22-29... look out California, here we come!

Getting the flights was no small ordeal... DH had enough Skymiles for 2 flights, I had enough for 1 flight, and our friends had enough for 1, but decided to pay cash for all 3 instead and save their miles. Thank goodness for the helpful Delta customer service rep we talked to. She tipped me off to being able to hold a rewards flight for 2 days without having to commit and Delta's 24 hour cancellation policy on purchased tickets. We were afraid we'd get one reward flight booked and then the miles would go up for the other ones. It involved lots of logging in and out, but we got it all set and were able to do it from our computer without having to pay to do it over the phone! :cool1:

We're thinking we'll do two nights in San Diego (deciding what we want to do... Sea World? San Diego Zoo? Tidal pools?) On Friday we'll head up to Anaheim, then Saturday we'll do the YES class at DCA with the kids, Sunday head to the beach/Hollywood, then Monday and Tuesday back to DL/DCA, and then head home on Wednesday. A nice variety of things to do!

Now to get our hotels figured out... :) I'm so excited for this vacation!!
Glad things worked out in your favor! pixiedust::thumbsup2 Oddly enough we are going the 22nd and doing 2 days at San Diego then 5 days in DLR! :confused3:) I am curious, do you have any ideas for SD hotels? We are trying to narrow down a hotel for that portion of the trip and just cannot decide. We stayed at The Dana on Mission Bay a few years ago, but want to try something less than $200/nt. Have fun with planning your trip!

Great minds must plan their vacations at the same time?! :)

I have no clue yet where we're staying for either part of the trip. I've been looking lots and lots at the hotels around DLR (I know we'll be staying offsite). Trying to figure out that sweet spot between being close, affordable, and not a total dive! I've stayed twice at the Hyatt Regency for work conferences and loved it there, but that's more than we're wanting to spend. I'm just starting to look at San Diego and see what's there and where everything is. All this looking at hotels makes me so thankful for DVC when we go to WDW! If you find something good, let me know!

What are you planning on doing when you're in San Diego?

Starting to look at dining choices. Already getting ready for my 60-Day Mark.

Got a few questions.

Do we make reservations 60 days out or 2 months out? When I called and asked, I was told 2 months out. But I'm reading 60 here.

I know Carnation Cafe is currently closed and supposed to open back up some time this summer. Do we know when exactly? What's the earliest time you can make a reservation for this place? Is it like WDW and make an early reservation to get in before the park opens?

We will be at the Grand California Villas from 8/10 - 8/12. We will be attending the D23 event.

It's a great day to be alive!!!

TM you will get a much better response if you pose your questions as a new thread. If the res system does not show up on the CM's screen nothing can be done until it does. Nothing is like WDW........
Minnies is the only place I know where you can get into eat at a CB(this takes place during a MM) before the park officially opens.

Thanks Jack. I might do that if I don't find the answer. Thinking about Minnie's as well. I'll have to see what DW wants to do. For sure Steakhouse 55 and RFC are our must do's. Everything else is still up in the air. Still looking over all the QS places and deciding what to do.

Well I see the answer to one of my questions was asked. Carnation Cafe is set to reopen on June 13th.

Like Jack wrote, don't hesitate to start a new thread. More people will see your questions if you start a new thread. :goodvibes

I can answer a couple of your questions.

You're right, it's 2 months, so to make a reservation for August 25 you can call on June 25. Making reservations at DLR is much easier than WDW.

Carnation Cafe will open again on June 13.

From the Disney Parks Blog:

I'm not sure about CC's hours, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't open before DL's regular opening time. I think Minnie's character meal at the Plaza Inn does.

HTH :earsboy:

Thanks Columbia. That answered my questions.

I've been trying to read all of HydroGuy's threads. I'm not afraid to start new threads to ask. I will try to find the answer first as I'm sure some where down the line it's been asked. Thought I would try here first since we're all going in the same month. Help keep Jack's thread going.

I'm planning 2 trips at the same time and get side tracked. One to DLR and one to WDW. Pretty funny that I can make my WDW reservations before my DLR reservations. We're still trying to determine where we want to eat. A lot of close by restaurants outside the park that we might want to go to as well.

Right after 0800 opening as eveyone heads to their first attraction of the morning.

I love walking down Main Street at this time of day...all refreshed and excited and getting greeted with Mickey hands and High Fives from all the cast members lining up the street to greet you and say have a magical day!!!!! This really makes the start of each day for me.

OK, change in dates for us! We'll be there August 2-9, staying (probably) at Desert Inn and Suites, though I also have a res at BWPPI :). Bought our 6 day park hoppers this weekend through Getawaytoday so saved some money...feels like it's really happening now! I also traded in my awful Buick minivan over the weekend for a used Mazda 5-while it might be a little cozier on our trip down, we'll definitely save money on gas (West Coast gas prices are still sky high-about 50 cents a gallon higher here than the national average for some crazy reason).

We are super excited! My husband hopes to take it easy-which for him means sleeping in (I pointed out that sleepiing in does not make for a relaxing Disney trip); my plan is to leave him with our two year old on those days and the girls and I can get up early and run around the park. My 6 year old is a total thrill junkie and is only a half inch too short for California Screaming, so we're hoping to make that happen this time-and I think both girls are going to do ToT for the first time, with the 6 year old shaming her big sister into trying it.

Also thinking of Minnie's for our character meal-perhaps schedule it for after we use our MM so we don't accidentally use it up.
