Who is Duffy???

Who is Duffy. I have seen him any wear and i don't know what tie he has to Disney someone please explain.

From my understanding, Mickey Mouse's stuffed bear. We had our picture taken with him a year ago, and I was thinking, "Who the heck is this guy??"

From what I understand about Duffy, when Mickey was going on vacation, Minnie made Duffy to keep Mickey company, basically he's Mickey's teddy bear. I think he's alot more popular in Japan than in the US. The kids love him, but for me personally I don't like him enough to buy him. I think people either love him, hate him or are indifferent to him.

Yes, I think he's Mickey's bear-- not so big in America yet, but they LOVE him in Tokyo Disney, and he was all over the place in Hong Kong Disneyland as well. My parents visited Tokyo Disneyland and said everyone buys him costumes and then line up to take a picture of the toy (in costume) at various places in the park (like Duffy sitting on a rock with the lagoon behind him). He doesn't seem to be that popular at Disneyland or WDW yet, though!

Duffy is absolutely HUGE in Japan at Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea. The Japanese teenagers/young adults like to carry him around with them while they ride rides, eat, etc. They have stores devoted to accessories for him. Last time I was at TDL, there was a two hour wait just to get into the main Duffy store! I don't get it, but they eat it up there.

Duffy is Mickey's Teddy bear. He originally appeared in 2002 in Walt Disney World's Once Upon a Toy Shop. The original story has Mickey bringing his teddy bear to the park and wishing he had a friend to share his trip with, then in front of the castle Tinker Bell appears sprinkles some pixie dust and Mickey hugs the bear and a Mickey shape magically appears on the teddy bear's face and comes to life. Unfortunately he did not go over big. But he gets a second chance when Tokyo DisneySea park adopts him gives him a name Duffy and a new back story. Mickey has a job as a sea captain of a boat and works all around the world but when he is travelling he gets lonely. So Minnie crafts him a teddy bear made with and full of love to bring on his journeys, Duffy! So every time Duffy is hugged he releases the love inside and takes away loneliness and sadness. "Duffy brings Love". He reappears here in the US in 2010. At first I scoffed, but now I love him and a trip to DCA is not complete without a visit, a hug and a photo!!

At WDW, they show a short video at certain times on the Resort channels that is a "bedtime story" for kids. They're trying to make Duffy catch on more here in the States.

My husband and I love to make fun of Duffy. "GO AWAY, DUFFY! NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU!" (Not to his face, of course. That's just mean.)

Pretty much. He's Disney's sociological experiment to attempt to reproduce the Duffy fad that swept Japan. Ironic, because while Disney has been trying to promote him the Frozen fad snuck up and swept nation.
