Who is doing Philly RnR half next week?

I'll be there this weekend! I'll be wearing my WISH visor and a TNT singlet. This is the event that I have been mentoring for. I've been dealing with allergies so I don't know how I'll be feeling, but I plan on at least starting the race.

I saw that someone is in Corral 19. I'm in 18 this year (again).

Susie - The Rocky Statue is right near the corrals. How close depends on which corral you're in.

Shall we meet on the museum steps on the side near Rocky? That way we can sit and rest a bit before the race (really just my laziness talking) and we have a bit more room.

Sounds good to me! The Rocky statue itself was a bit crowded last time.

Jen, sounds good!

I probably won't be wearing my WISH shirt but I will wear my WISH visor and a bright green/yellow bike jersey that is the same color as the WISH alert shirts. It's just so much lighter than the WISH shirt and it has those handy pockets in the back. Since I don't run anymore, I don't think any of the items I put in those pockets will fly out.

Jen - the steps next to the Rocky Statue sound good to me.

See everyone soon!

It was nice to see everyone yesterday. We had a good time and finally caught up with our friends post race for lunch. :goodvibes

I'm just curious about how many miles your Garmin claimed you ran. Mine got way off somewhere between mile 3 and 4 and by the end it said I ran 13.58. I'm usually off a few tenths but this seemed a bit extreme. :confused3 Wondering if anyone else had this issue.

I had the same problem with the distance. Everyone I talked to said they did too. Like you said it was fine up until around 3 or 4 and then suddenly everyone was almost a 1/2 mile off. Thought maybe it was the buildings at first, but it seemed too consistent for my taste. I ended with 13.56.

I heard someone else saying something about their tracking being off. At the 10 mile marker, people near me were saying that they were getting 10.25 readings. I wasn't using GPS. but I recently calibrated my Nike+ on an 8 mile run and it was reading 10.11 at that point. It read 13.2 at the end.

I was cheering not running, but my friend that runs in Philly all the time said her Garmin is consistently messed up in the city because of the signal bouncing off the buildings.

My cousin said his Garmin told him he was done with the race a little before he got to mile 13, so his final distance was probably read as about 13.3 or so I'd think? But he was definitely irritated because his time was 1 minute (!!!!!more than last year and he thinks if it was "only" 13.1 he would have been faster.

I was curious so I went to Gmaps pedometer and routed the course. It came in at 13.38. The originaly course map (which I printed and have at my desk) did not have the extra block jump north in Chinatown. I wonder why that was added. I noticed the change in the published material that we got at the expo. I think that this may explain any distance discrpencies.

Interesting about the "extra block" I wonder why it was changed. I'll just humor myself and pretend I ran an extra 1/4 mile-- then it would be a PR for me:rotfl:

The stench of the fish (which I smelled the night before) in Chinatown was nauseating!

I hate to say it, but this was a much better organized race than Disney in terms of the waves. I had so much more room to run and rarely felt that I had to zigzag around people!

My one complaint about the waves was that I found myself cutting through Port-a-potty lines in order to get my wave and then I was told I had to go back to the last wave and make my way up from the back to get into my wave. A little frustrating and I felt like I was forced to be rude to many people in the process. I preferred the course the way it was last year. The last 2 miles straight into the sun caused me and several of my friends to really feel wiped out by the time we were done.

That's interesting about the extra block in Chinatown. My Garmin registered 13.37 at the end. It seemed to me, too, the extra milage jumped all at once so that would explain the extra block.

I think I prefer the old course over this one. I didn't like running along the highway, facing the cars, the last mile in the full sun. And the hill at the very end wasn't pleasant either.

The one improvement is that the first four miles used wider streets than prior years. I was literally running up on sidewalks other years to get around people.

Is anyone doing the half in November?

DH and I will be there in Nov. Missed it last year but are ready to try again... time made me forget the hills in it.

There is an elevation map on the event site. There is a long, gradual slope at around mile 7ish and a few hills through Fairmount Park-- nothing huge, but not as nice and flat as the RnR/ING

I'm booked for November. I will need to do about 3 miles before since my TNT plan calls for 18 miles that day. We'll see what I can do after the race.

Hi All,

I'm a little late to this thread, but I ran Philly RnR on Sunday - I didn't get in on the WISH shirts or visors, so no identification on me, but I did see a few WISH folks and did get close enough during the race to say "yay, Disboards" and give a thumbs up to someone, a man...was that anyone here?

This was only my second half and first one at Philly, so I can't compare routes, but those last 2 miles killed me. I hit a wall and I think that the full sun got to me...though I didn't feel hot. Fueling, maybe...I'm picking it apart to try to figure it out!

On the mileage - I use Cardiotrainer on my Android phone and the GPS was all wonky - it gave me 15.2 for an overall, LOL! The map looks right, but the mileage was off so it must not have liked the buildings in the city.
