) Paper clutter is my main battle right now. Thanks for continuing to keep this thread going, it inspired me every time!
Paper clutter is a huge headache.
Both my DH and I think we need to keep papers for future reference or just in case. What do most people keep in terms of monthly bills? How far back? A few months or more?
We have been married 23 years and so we had lots of old checks that were cancelled and returned to us. This was before the banks just keep copies on microfish I guess. Anyway, wow! It took a lot of time but I had to shred them since each one had both our SS # on them. Back then, the banks printed your SS on the checks.
Unbelievable!
I intend to take pictures of their art work and scrapbook the pictures then get rid of the actual day to day art work. However, I just don't seem to get around to doing it. So, this is where I am going to start up again.
The room looks great!
Thanks for sharing your before and after photos. I have a room like your before photo. It is my guest room/office. It is the room that I am concentrating on this summer. I hope to have it fully transformed by the end of summer if not before.
It really is a great motivator!
I said I wouldn't do it again. But here I am thinking about it. It is a good way to get rid of a lot of stuff. What doesn't sell, I'd donate.
We just keep the doors closed and the lights off!Well, the destash got a huge kick in the pants yesterday....But I guess I should start at the beginning....
Last Saturday we happened to be at the credit union and decided to ask about a mortgage refi. We have no other debt but thought we'd be unable to refi because we don't have much equity. Banks require something called Private Mortgage Insurance if you have less than 20% equity. We have a condo, and because of the markets right now, PMI companies aren't doing condos. So we thought we were stuck. BUT someone right here on the DIS informed me that their credit union would does mortgages down to just 10% equity with NO PMI. So, we stopped in and asked. Turns out not only could we refi with no PMI, but we could switch from a 30 year to a 15 year mortgage for about $20 a month...but wait, there's more....The credit union will do this all for FREE. Free appraisal, no closing costs, no paying points up front. SIGN US UP.
So yesterday afternoon they call and want to do the appraisal THIS MORNING. I cleaned like a madwoman- it doesn't really make a difference to the appraisal process- just makes me feel better about someone seeing my house. A car load to Goodwill, 3 bags to Freecycle, a ton of boxes to the recycling place.
I've been wondering, since I'm half way through the year, am I half way through destashing? After last night, I think I can say my answer is YES!![]()
) and get such solid information?
It was brand new house less than 2 years ago and when we moved here I hardly had any clothes I brought with me (I lost 70 pounds before my move).
