Who is destashing in 2010?

I thought I had de-stashed as much as possible, but started a new bag of clothes that are leaving my house - why do I keep things that don't fit or that I don't like? It's silly, and it's a waste of space.
I've also started looking at my knick-knacs with a critical eye...I spy some things that are on their way out ! :hippie:

I went through my linen closet last week and weeded out the orphan towels, sheets, etc. Along the way, I found a quilt that my great-grandmother had made. It needed quite a bit of repair and cleaning, but I tackled that project this week. It is now fixed and cleaned - not all of the stains came out completely, but it looks amazingly better. I'm proud to have that done and now I can actually use the quilt instead of having it just sitting on a shelf in my linen closet. I think my great-grandmother would be happy to know it is being used again, after 70 years. I also came across a quilt top she had made, but never finished the quilt. I'm thinking about finishing that up this summer. It needs a back and then to be quilted. I know it will take a huge amount of time to do, but now that I have the other one done, I'd like to do this one, as well. I have a third one that my grandmother, mother and I finished off several years ago, so if I can get this last one done, then someday each of my children will be able to have something that their great-great-grandmother made. I this this technically counts as destashing because I'm taking something that was just taking up space in my closet and making it usable again!

I've been waxing and waning on de-cluttering. Today was a good day though. I did donate a large bag. I've been working on the kids closets and drawers. I am preparing for Fall consignment. Now is the time to do it, as Summer we will be on the go. I have a long way to go.

I have issued an all points bulletin to the kids, we are going to work through the stuff in their rooms. We have to pare it all down. They promised they would work with me. After the closets, we will begin that process. I don't mind storing "some" stuff for them. I have started taking a few things that are just plain junky. I took pictures of them for the kids and they are gone. Haven't been missed. I don't want to do it with everything though. I wish it weren't such slow going, but I know some things mean a lot to them and some things I'm not so sure. Teamwork. :)

cleaned out my purses, found 6 to sell at a garage sale or donate. It's a start!

Starting to get things cleaned up and priced for a rumage sale in June. It will be huge. My mom and mother in law are also bringing their things as well. Hopefully it goes well. I just want it gone! :thumbsup2

I filled up my big garbage toter with clutter this week and I just sold off two coolers and a Little Tikes basketball hoop! I'm on a roll!! :cool1:

It's great to see everyone still here and this thread keeps growing! I slowed down a little due to many factors, but I maintained what I had going and tried to work on a few small things each day. Now the kids are out of school as of yesterday, and I'm done in a week and a half, so I'm ramping back up to get this stuff out!! I have found that the more I do, the more I look at stuff and want it out. It's just that it is 15 or so years of stuff! Aghhhhh! Thanks to everyone that posts, it's really inspiring and keeps me going!

did the tote bags and make-up bags, that kind of stuff. Now off to do shoes. I agree, I want the stuff GONE. I can't believe how much I keep and for how long. Like I have this tote bag I haven't used since before I had DS (12 yo) and yet i hesitate to get rid of it. Grrr.

Taking destash to a new level. We are off to Alaska and my girls are moving into our house. Our niece is also moving in. I am cleaning out every closest and cupboard. Have the guest room almost done and am working on the downstairs bedroom closets. Working on the gararge today too. Will be busy and feel great by tonight. Going to paint one bedroom and the upstairs bath. Only 60 days to get everything done.

We are making a huge dent in the destashing. So far 2 rooms are completely done. We went through them and filled 6 really big plastic bins with stuff for the yard sale we are having next weekend. We will do another room tomorrow. Everything we left are things that we are taking for the move.

Then we found the house we are moving into and it's a lot small as I wanted so I am selling, my entire living room, dining room set, all my china and crystal. I gave away a love seat to my neighbor.

I have to get rid of almost all my craft supplies. It's going to be a huge yard sale. I hope we make a lot of money for the upcoming disney trip.

Took a load of stuff to Goodwill Saturday. It seems like the stuff multiplies in the dark! Gotta get a move on though! The in-laws are coming for the 4th and they need to stay in the room all the stuff is stashed in!

Almost half way through the year! How's everyone doing?

Got a couple of bags to ARC this weekend, plus a baby bathtub and front carrier. It's sad to see some of that stuff go for good, but way past time for it to go - the "baby" is 2 1/2 now!

Hi! I'm still here! I slowed down for a while, but as of last Thursday, I'm on summer break and I've been working. I donated a bunch of stuff the other day and I've been putting stuff aside for my yard sale. I'm really staying motivated! I'm really hoping to have this stuff all completed by the end of July when I go back to work. I'll start posting again...it helped me before!:thumbsup2

Glad to see this thread back at the top. I too slowed down for awhile and need to get going again!

Now I need a refresher on deciding what to yard sale and what to donate! That always slows me down :confused3 Any hints?

I don't yard sale anymore. DH is never home when our neighborhood schedules them, which makes him nervous, and we don't get a lot of traffic, so now I'm just inventorying all of it,and taking it to Goodwill for the tax deduction.

:scared: Wish me luck fellow destashers...I have to go up to my attic and find stuff that I've promised to pass along and it's scarily chaotic up there, needs a major major destash.

We had a yard sale this past weekend. Made $180 :cool1: But most importantly I got rid of stuff!! Lots of my scrapbook items went.
We will be having another rummage this weekend in my aunt's neighborhood to hopefully get rid of the remaining items. Otherwise off to goodwill.:cool1:

I've been following this thread sporadically for the last few months. I had one HUGE problem area in my home, and that was our guest bedroom. (LOL, a guest had absolutely no chance of ever sleeping...or walking into...that particular room.) It was literally a storage room where we just threw any unneeded item. Anyway, I finally realized that I needed to tackle the problem because we needed to turn the room into a nursery for our new baby girl. I started back during the winter and worked on it for a few minutes whenever I had a chance, and had it ready for her arrival at the end of April. I did all of the sorting of the items we got rid of, and DH and DS hauled the boxes out for me. DH also painted the room after it was cleared out.

Most of the stuff in there was donated to Goodwill. I had tons of too-big clothes...why was I keeping that stuff? I took some "before" pictures to inspire myself, and there are "after" pictures as well.

This is one of my favorite parts about the "new" room. I love this storage unit from Ikea (Trofast line). It is made of solid pine, and has lots of different pieces to buy so you can customize it to your needs. Ours has a changing table attachment that we can easily remove later on. Right now I have various baby supplies stored in the unit, but it can hold her toys, etc later on.

And a nicely organized closet for baby....

Sherry7, WOW! What a change! That room looks awesome! So organized, bright, and inviting. You did great! Huge difference between the before and after! Lots of work involved! You deserve a milkshake. :) Great job!!! :goodvibes

That was quite a transformation.

Today I was at my DDs school the secretary had my same desk. I am getting rid of mine. I bought a drawer for it and never put it together so I offered it to her. She was thrilled and I got one more thing out of my office!
