Who is destashing in 2010?

Thanks for posting that! We are almost in need of a new trash can but maybe I will wait and see if one of those shows up.

I can't remember who our trash co is- maybe republic?

Our trash gets picked up by the city, we're in Marion county. I'm not sure if they use a sub-contractor or not but I know we have to call the Mayor's action center if we have issues with the trash service. I'd like to say the big cans are an improvement but I don't think they will be since there is no way 10bags of trash will fit in them and that's all they will take each week. Right now we use the black yard bags to bag up all the daily trash bags and it works really well. Most everyone has adopted that strategy on our block and we have a ton less loose trash getting blown around.

Hello everyone!

I have tamed the LAUNDRY MONSTER!!!!

The system is working like a well oiled machine!!!!!! . This is LAUNDRY HEAVEN I tell you!!!

As the laundry monster is out of the house, I am able to turn my attention to other things like clearing more closets.:lovestruc

Sorry for the incredibly long post, but I was hoping it would inspire and help someone else, and I felt as thought I deserved to brag and celebrate a little.

Congratulations and I wanted to let you know that your laundry basket idea inspired me and I set up a similiar system in my laundry room. I 'introduced' the kids and hubby to it and they liked their nametags (I used laminated Disney Tags I found on the Creative Disign board).

Thank you for sharing your idea!

I went throug the CD Rack and found 23 CD's that I have not even listened to in years. So I ripped the songs that I wanted off of them and put the rest in the yard sale pile!!

DD and I hauled more to Goodwill last night. only 3 bags this time and a couple of random items - but I wanted it out of the way. So we celebrated all of our spring cleaning/projects by going to Dairy Queen and enjoying their blizzard deal (buy 1 get the 2nd for 25 cents).

She had midnight truffle and I had raspberry truffle. MMMM....it made the destashing even more worth it!

:woohoo:

Yay! I'm so glad! Hope it works for you as well as it is for us.

Yup, destashing this year. Or at least starting to destash. This week we got rid of some old clothing and old (working) small appliances that we had replaced, or were not using any more. There's a local charity that picks up donations from your house--they came by promptly in a 5 ton truck--what a huge relief to finally see the end of that stuff! I got rid of most of my business suits for work -- things that I no longer have the occasion to wear (I retired last year). We didn't get through all our clothes closets, but we got through most of them! Next big thing is to get rid of some old paperbacks--I have to call our local library and see if they accept donations, otherwise we will take them to the closest hospital, for patients to read. If neither of those work--recycle!

You guys keep me motivated. Today I'm working on the kids clothes. I swear this has to be done every few weeks. They outgrow them so quickly. Those pants that were borderline short are now really short, so out they go.

Then I'll start in the laundry/craft room. This is a big mess and will take me the afternoon to finish.

Thank goodness I cleaned up the house last night before bed, so I could declutter the house.

Still working on my kitchen. But I have been pricing things for a rummage sale as I go along. Just need to get the stuff out of my house and over to my mother in laws house :)

Well I found another 20 CD's to get rid of and then the DW went through the CD rack and found 50 she no longer wants. Combined we are getting rid of half of our CD's.

I think I will be able to listen to the "CD's" more now that they are digitized vs having to find the CD put it in the CD player listen to a few songs I like and then do it over again.

DD and and I attacked her closet the other day....Today we'll attack her dresser drawers as well. We have 2 large garbage bags for goodwill. :thumbsup2

Our destashing has been put on hold. We had water damage to our home in Jan. from a broken/leaking water pipe so after much hassle with the insurance and mortagage company we are finally getting our flooring replaced. Our entire first floor minus the laundry room :woohoo: I am so happy to finally have flooring in my house again!!! Lowe's will have it all in and done by Thursday :goodvibes And then we have to put the house back together!

This thread is great!!! I am planning an overhaul especially on all the kids toys. So far I have sold 1/2 bag of outgrown clothes an old toy organizer and dora doll house for 91.00 and a ton more stuff to go. We are planning a big garage sale in 2 weeks that will give us some extra spending money for disney 2 weeks after that :cheer2:

got a large black trash bag of toys out of the boys' room on Thursday and got all their winter clothes swapped out for summer stuff. There's enough outgrown clothes from just one son to outfit two!

I started in on doing some destashing today but can't find the motivation. Not sure why I'm so blah today but might be the rainy day. I did however get the sideboard out into the garage. It's been sitting in the middle of our hallway blocking everything since Jan and I finally recruited my 'older' DS (aged 5! LOL) to help me at least steer it while I lifted/pushed/pulled it into the garage. Of course now the garage entry is rather blocked but better than my hallway!

I've got the bags to go to goodwill out in the garage as well so they aren't cluttering up my stairwell and the kids aren't getting into them anymore.

That is awesome!

We went to the shred day today...I don't know what I was expecting but that was one HUGE shredder! It was inside a truck. You put your items in a dumpster, the truck lifted the dumpster up and tipped it into a truck, and then you could watch your items get shredded inside the truck via a screen on the side.

Still have a bit of office paper clutter to work on this evening, just some things that needed to be kept and need to be re-filed. Then, tomorrow, I start digging out the old sheets to take to the humane society!

It's wonderful to read that everyone is doing so well! I have been working...and working...and forcing myself to not give up. I have been living in this small house for 16 years and had four boys along the way. I don't think I qualified for Hoarder's because it wasn't trash and, heaven forbid, no dead cats, but we had layers and layers of stuff. But...I have been steadily working and I can see the difference. Sometimes I'm so tired in the evening that I just give my self one project to see through. That's how the desk (with deep drawers) finally was completed...one drawer at a time. Who knew we had soooooo many colored pencils, tape and glue sticks? We sure couldn't find them before! I still have a long way to go, but it just feels so good to continue donating, freecycling, and boxing things for my yard sale! Y'all remain my inspiration and I thank you for being on this thread! :flower3:

Had hubby take an old computer monitor, and two Dvd players that didn't work to the Earth day recycling event.

We went through the spare bedroom yesterday and organized it and purged two huge boxes of "stuff" (picture frames, knick Knacks, linens, odds and ends) Now we just have to price them for the yard sale. That room looks pretty decent now compared to what it looked like when we started.

Also, finished ripping all of the CD's that we are getting rid of. That was a job and a half by it's self.

Hopefully I can find some time today to get rid of more clutter, it is getting harder now as we are working towards "things" that we kinda like, "things" we really like, and "things" we love.

I just made a big dent in my destashing. I sold my 20 year collection of rubber stamps on ebay. I had 4,300 of them lol. I made a good chunk of money and we are paying off bills and I got rid of a collection that I no longer use.

I put my Barbie dolls on ebay and most of them didn't sell. I guess the bottom has fallen in that market.

Today I am bringing one bin of summer clothes down from the attic and going through it. I want to reduce my clothing by half so some of it's going to resale and some will be donated.

I am also boxing up my 923 Scrapbooking Paper Punchs for ebay too. Those suckers are HEAVY!

Lisa

Ok- here's another reason it is VERY IMPORTANT to destash.

Sorting through the filing cabinet for shred day at the credit union- DH had an 8 year old uncashed paycheck.

He still works there, but I'm guessing we're out of luck. He's going to ask.
