Who is destashing in 2010?

OMGosh! The getting dressed to the shoes thing is what has changed my life! If I can't even get motivation to get dressed and put on shoes, what makes me think I'll be motivated to start the laundry. I move SO much faster with sneakers on. I used to think I was fine going around the house in socks (don't like to wear shoes in the house, and always was trained to take them off coming in the door so not to track in dirt) but lately I was suffering from plantar facitis and was moving so slow and was hurting too bad to do anything. Once I decided to stick with her plan and follow directions to the letter, whether they made sense to me or not, it really changed my life. I still donlt like wearing my outside shoes inside, so I bought a new pair of running shoes that I only wear inside. I MOVE in them. My facitis has completely gone away since I am always wearing suppportive shoes, and I just am more motivated and have spring in my step. Days that I think I'll come down and sip my coffee before I get showered or dressed, I end up not getting anyhting done until about 11:30am. I just sit around sipping coffee, looking at the internet, not real motivated to get going. If I get out of bed and right into the shower, I'm a different person.

:thumbsup2

I had a very productive day off today. I took 5 big boxes of clothes to Goodwill. Then I went to my parents house and spent HOURS in one of their spare bedrooms that had a ton of my stuff and other stuff too... shoved in there. After we moved into that house, it just seemed like when someone didn't want something, or didn't know what to do with a box - it went in this room. It was crammed full! My brother helped me, we filled bags and bags of garbage and some boxes to recycle. We organized the whole entire room (and seriously, it was a project). I'm off again on Wednesday so I'm going back to sort through the boxes and boxes of my clothes that I need to take to Goodwill. This may be counter productive, but one of the big boxes that I need to take to goodwill has been sitting in there for so long, the clothes look really wrinkled so I'm going to bring them home and wash them before I take them to goodwill. I also have a ton of prom/homecoming dresses that I need to take to the consignment shop, its been over 7 years, don't think I need those dresses again :lmao:

On the topic of keeping things... I don't have any children yet, but my parents are holding on to some of mine and my brothers things for the grandkids... my brothers are keeping all their legos, and we all are going to divy up the little people & little people play sets(you know, when they were actually little!) My dad has also kept all my barbies and accessories together... and I'd like my kids or nieces/nephews to play with the fisher price play kitchen sets my brothers and I played with as kids - maybe some books I'd like to hang on to... but that's about it. I can't wait someday to go through the attic at my parents house and start decluttering... my dad is a pack rat so that might be a long time from now!

this thread is good motivation! My entire house has pretty much been destashed, just waiting on ebay to get rid of the 6 boxes of stuff I have left that doesn't have a home. I start school again in 2 weeks so I'm trying to finish destashing all the stuff I still have in my parents house, I think 2 week should be enough time.

That's so funny that you are hanging on to the odd ones, too. I have 17 odd socks that I refuse to toss. I keep hanging on to the hope that they will one day turn up. I tell my DH if I get enough, I'm gonna weave them into one of those rag rugs. ;)

I do wonder if they disappear in the washer or the dryer? :confused3 My mom says that she has never lost a match to a sock which I find really hard to believe. One of life's little mysteries.

My solution: buy all the same kind of sock! I have on style black socks, one style athletic socks.

DMom got me started on that when DSis and I were in high school. We'd put all the socks in one big laundry basket and the three of us would pick out a pair for the day. :lmao:

Granted, it's much harder when you're dealing with people of different gender and size. :goodvibes

I keep the random odd sock in hopes that an additional sock will unearth itself in my house. That way, if one gets a hole it becomes a dust rag, then its former partner joins forces with the lone sock.

Okay. Enough sock talk.

I have 4 bags of aluminum cans in my trunk ready for recycling, a bag of packing material, 2 bags of giveaway, and my old kitchen garbage can. (I switched to an under cabinet model a while ago - love it!)

I put most of my luggage down in my storage unit in the basement - and realized that besides my luggage, Christmas tree, ladder, and 2 spare dining table chairs, there is nothing in there I need or want. I'm excited to destash! Plus, that will give Roomie even more space down there and she's always looking for more storage. :thumbsup2

My DW got rid of 2 12x12x12 boxes of clothes when she cleaned out her closet and dresser. I got rid of 5 T-Shirts, 1 pair of jeans, and a few ratty looking shorts.

Not a lot but we stayed motivated.

I'm starting to do this again this year and hope to keep motivated! I have lots of stuff. Just stuff! Oh, and odd socks! :lmao: I bought DH socks last night (they had the 12 pack of Hanes crew socks for $7.50 at Walmart--all white!) and he said this morning, "You know, we really need to throw out all those odd socks in that drawer"!:lmao: That may be what I do today.

DD18 went through her clothes yesterday and got a huge pile that she wants to get rid of. Since they are all AE, Aero, and Hollister, they will sell good in a yard sale. We had one last year the first weekend in February and made really good on it. We picked that time because that's when a lot of people get their fast tax refunds and can afford to buy clothes. We discussed yesterday that is definitely the plan for this year too!

Well I unloaded the old DVD player to the Senior Lounge at my school. So now I only have a million other things to get rid of rather than a million and one!!:lmao: Tonight I am going to try the hall closet and purge coats and old boots--it has been really cold around here so I will drop them at one of the warming shelters tomorrow.

Last night we started working in the soon to be nursery. We got out about half of the boxes. Most of it wasn't stuff we wanted to get rid of just things that needed to be moved to somewhere else. I did find about 4 boxes of ornaments that I'm taking to our church. They need some new ones and these match the Christmas color scheme in our church.

Today I'm doing some baking so I'll probaly spend the down time cleaning out a few cabinets.

Are we all still going? I don't want anyone to lose motivation! I read that most resolutions are dead by Valentine's day so let's beat that! (Unless we're done decluttering before then!)

Today at work I am trying to declutter my email- 1013 messages in my inbox and you know I don't need them ALL! :)

Tonight the hall closet is waiting for me....

I'm still going but didn't get as much done yesterday. I need DH to help me move boxes because the halls & downstairs look cluttered right now with all the stuff ready to go out.

I did go through my hope chest this AM and pulled 3 things to give away. I'd gone through it sometime in the last year and hadn't added anything new.

Today I should get to the basement since I didn't yesterday. The kids go back to school tomorrow so I should be able to finish some projects by the end of the week.

It was wonderful yesterday. My younger two had a whole city of LPS set up in DD's bedroom. When I came in later, the room was almost clean again. I asked what they were doing and they told me THEY WERE CLEANING UP BECAUSE THEY WERE DONE PLAYING! :worship:

These are not kids that willingly cleaned up in the past. I believe it was much easier to put stuff away because now everything has an actual place to be stored plus she likes her room being neat. By bedtime, the room was spotless once again! THAT is motivation to me!

I'm still going! Finished the bear of a walk in closet, and now am decluttering their room - which is easier to do since there is space in the closet now to put things in their rightful place. Have paused for this morning to catch up the routine stuff like laundry...but can't wait to get back up there! I am not getting overwhelmed by the number of rooms and closets to be decluttered, I am just happy that there is progress each day.

Dh took our car in for service so he had to clean out the car first...yay! another clean place.

I listed 14 items on ebay and shipped out 1 today!

On flylady, I need to empty out my kitchen sink (good tip!) but never bother with the shoes thing. I was surprised to see that her site looks almost the same as the last time I looked at it 8 years ago?

emptied out our unfinished and got rid of 2 old computers, a monitor and some huge stereo speakers. Lots of space opened up. Gave away 2 huge boxes of kids clothes and sorted some for a garage sale. (I have a terrible emotional attachment to baby clothes and have about 8 rubbermaids full left.. but I did empty 3.)

We hung shelves in DS room to hold all his pricess keepsakes. Great to have it all off the dresser.

I also have a very large box of 80's CDs. Does anyone know of a place to sell them? I would like them all gone at once, not listing them one by one.

Thanks!

Do you have a "Half-Price Bookstore"? They buy CDs, too. You won't get alot for them but they'll probably take all of them.

This thread is amazing! Thanks for the inspiration!!:goodvibes

I looked it up and didn't see any in my area.

You could try listing them all as one lot on ebay.

I have given away some games/toys. Dropped off a bag of clothes at the school nurse to help if children need a change of clothes. I have pile ready to go to the consignment store.

Tomorrow's goal, clean the pantry, fridge, and overflow shelves. Also get the pile ready for Goodwill.

I want to join. Maybe this thread can help keep me motivated. My DH and I have been cleaning and organizing the house since last Spring! You would think we would be done but it is really never ending. We had a lot of work to do. My 2010 (or late 2009) destashing over the holidays:

1. Linen Closet - three bags to goodwill of old towels, sheets etc.
2. Desk cabinets in the kitchen. Filled a full garbage bag and just threw stuff out.
3. Organized Pots and Pans - my hubby gave me some new ones for Christmas and i worked them into homes and moved some that i don't use much to the garage.
4. Thomas the Tank Engine - my sister has an almost 3 yr old. We went through all my son's trains and buildings and gave them to my sister before the holidays. My parents gave him a train table for Chistmas and then my sis and bil put them all together for my nephew. Huge hit with him and great win for destashing of my home. Also a great win with my parents as most of my son's buildings came from them as gifts so they really appreciated seeing it getting passed on.

2010 goal items:

1. Christmas stuff organize in basement storage. We purchased some new containers and are going to re-group before we put things away. We did toss some stuff as we were decorating. Those things that we will not use again are gone.

2. Baby clothing in basement - my sister and cousin-in-law are both due in April. Want to see what i have that they could use and send the rest to goodwill. They are both having girls and i had a boy so beyond the baby stuff it probably can be given away. I do not think there will be other kids in the family to give to.

3. Office Shelves and family room cabinets.- we have made great stides in the last year to clean our office but it needs another go around. We use half of it as my son's play area and store games/toys on the shelves as well as in cabinets in our family room. I usually make him get rid of stuff before Christmas but did not get to do that this year. We need to make room next weekend to put the Christmas stuff away!!

4. Garage - my husband did alot already last year but I need to put some serious time into my stuff that is out there.

I am sure that i will have more as the year progresses. Look forward to getting great ideas from all you.

sorted/organized the pantry and got a big bag of candy together for DH to bring into work. Also got a few boxed items together for DD to bring to her friend's house. I'll probably send her with a few dozen pieces of lasagna too next time she goes over there.

Listing a big bag of toddler toys on freecycle before TBL tonight so I guess I'd better get a move on with that one!

OK-so...working on the hall closet and found something I can't identify. I THINK it might go on the bottom of a vacuum cleaner we no longer own. Can anyone help guess? I don't know how to post pics here but you can see it on my last tweet on twitter at twitter.com/micayla
