Who is counting down to Aulani?

We rented a jeep while in Maui and drove the Road to Hana. We loved the jeep but kind of forgot about luggage. We were so cramped that none of us could see any of the others in the jeep. Lol! Once we got rid of the luggage we loved having the jeep!

Did you get a 2door or 4door Jeep? When we had the convertible booked, we were worried about luggage space. The 4door Jeep looks like it has quite a bit of storage space in the back.

We will be on Big Island first

Us too and just starting to plan. Be interested in hearing your plans on Big Island. Definitely going to Volcanoes National Park but can't decide whether to book one of the guided tours or explore on our own. It's been 15 years since we've been and this will be DDs first trip to Hawaii.

Did you get a 2door or 4door Jeep? When we had the convertible booked, we were worried about luggage space. The 4door Jeep looks like it has quite a bit of storage space in the back.

We actually upgraded to the jeep once we got to Maui, and all they had was the two door that has the top that comes off. I'm sure the four door would be much bigger. We loved it though! We own a convertible but there was something cool about driving the Road to Hana in a rugged jeep with no top. Lol!

I agree! That does sound cool to do the Road to Hana that way. We are doing Maui on our next trip over to the islands and are thinking about doing the Road to Hana, did the Jeep give any sort of advantage in navigating the tricky/narrow parts of the road?

I'm not sure if the jeep gave us an advantage, but we sure felt cool. We drove on our own one day around the edge of the island in a different direction, and that road was downright scary. I was on a mission to find more banana bread like we had had on the Road to Hana, and our resort had given us a list of places to go to, and although the banana bread was delicious, my kids and I were fairly certain my husband might kill us from dropping off the edge of a cliff! However, as scary as we thought it was, my kids still talk nonstop about how cool it was! The scenery was awesome and we ended up at the Iao Needle which was neat as well.

We arrive May 14 for a two week stay. As many others have said once you go to Aulani once it becomes an addiction. We, my wife and I, are really looking forward to seeing all of the additions that they have made since our last visit two years ago.

On the Big Island, we will stay on the Kona Coast first and then at Volcanoes National Park for two nights so that we can break up the driving. My husband and I visited Hawaii in 2010 for our anniversary and stayed on the Kona Coast the entire visit, but it was a bit of a trek to go back and forth to the National Park in one day. We are excited to be bringing our tween/teen sons this time! We are thinking that we will explore the national park on our own. We had a great time hiking into the crater there by ourselves and our sons also like to hike. Other potential sites on our list are Akaka falls, Hapuna Beach, and Panaluu black sand beach (a bit of a steep hike but the beach is fantastic). I need to jog my memory a bit more. We just reserved Aulani last week and so are now thinking about details.

It's for 10 days. We don't want to off-road. It's more for space and for something different. We drive regular cars all the time, so he wants to drive something new.

Gotcha, yeah 10 days is not that bad of price then.

Yes the 4 door Wranglers have a lot more space than the 2 doors. I have put a lot of stuff in the trunk.

Our Aulani countdown is down to 262 days. Today we booked our flights from Houston to Vancouver (we are getting on a cruise ship that goes from Vancouver to Honolulu) and from Honolulu to Houston. I didn't realize that we had just enough Mileage Plus miles on United to cover the flight from Honolulu to Houston. Since United's non-stop HNL-IAH flight is $1152 pp, finding out that we could use our Mileage Plus miles instead was a very, very, pleasant surprise.

Congrats! We did something similar - used my United miles to get us to HI and DHs Delta miles to get us home. 3 round-trip tickets for a total of $15 (although I did splurge on Economy comfort upgrades since tix were free ).

Sounds like an awesome vacation! We cruised with Disney from Vancouver on their Alaskan cruise, and we stayed in Vancouver before our cruise and fell in love. We love, love, love Vancouver!!! Congrats on getting your air on points--that's a huge savings!!!

We leave 4 weeks from today, spending a couple nights on the big island first then on to 7 nights at Aulani! I feel so unprepared compared to a WDW trip.

Hi DISers

We are going to Aulani in 43 days (April 5 and 6) and again May 6 and 7. Our visit is en route to New Zealand from Canada, so we stop in Hawaii on the way there and back...5 week trip in total. Aulani is icing on the cake!
