Who is counting down to Aulani?

19 Sleeps. Not going to lie, the -30 C temps the last little while have me looking forward to some R&R with the family in a warmer place.

We cannot start the count-down just yet. Planning on going in 2015 but getting excited about it already. The whole family of 5 is going from NY so it will be an expensive trip. I'll just keep adding to my Hawaii fund.:) It's been 22 years since our last visit. My oldest will be 21 an 19 but they insist on coming along:confused3 14 yr old has no choice but is excited as well.

20 days!!! :cool1: Can't wait to see all the lush green plants after so many months of winter.....:thumbsup2

We'll be on the big island in 13 days and at Aulani in 16 days. Just made our reservation for the Catamaran Experience ABD excursion as our big splurge since we're afraid during spring break it will be popular and fill up.

ONE WEEK from this moment my plane will be taking off in Boston! I need some warm weather badly:beach:

We'll be boarding a plane in Newark, NJ in 7 days!!!!!! Cannot wait to get away from the dirty, nasty residual snow on the ground.

Maybe we'll see you by the pool geooriasmom :wave2:

I'm boarding a plane from Newark too, but not till July......cannot wait!!!

Woohoo. Less than 12 hours now for us. That's right....hours not days.
We've just spent 6 days in Maui and this afternoon we'll be checking into Aulani.
Maui has been great but we're all looking forward to a week long end to our trip in a 1 BR OV room at Aulani.
Weather hasn't been the greatest for the past week but the simple fact that I am shoveling sand and not snow makes me very happy.

Maybe we'll see some of you there. Aloha
CPC

119 days here. June 21-28 at Aulani and then June 28-July 8 on Kauai.

Going with my parents (DVC owners), by brother, SIL, nephew, sister and of course DH, DD8 and DD4. Staying in a OV Grand Villa - CANNOT WAIT!

We were there in 2012, shortly after it opened, and before the pool expansion, we can't wait to go back and see the changes.

For anyone who has been there recently:

How is the lounge chair situation? When we were there in 2012 there seemed to be a lack of chairs, and the resort was not even 1/2 full. I'm hoping that improved somewhat with the pool expansion.

Also - with the Starlight Hui - where is it now? Has anyone done it recently? How often is it held? We really enjoyed it when we went last time, and I would love to do it again.

We take off on Wednesday to Oahu but don't check into Aulani until Friday. Going to stay a couple of nights in the city to see/do some stuff before we head out there to relax.

I'm a bit concerned about the length of the flight. Its almost 7 hours from Phoenix and will be our longest flight to date. Well, at least for the kids and I. Dh has flown several times to Europe and to Israel. Its no problem for him.

I know many of you have much longer flights but I hate thinking about sitting in one small seat for all those hours. It kind of freaks me out (claustrophobia)! Also, maybe because we ended up with the middle and window seat for 2 of us with the other 2 directly behind in a middle and window seat. I feel trapped already just thinking about it!:scared1:

I'm with you on this. It is 6 hours from San Diego, and I literally packed about 25 different things for me to do so I wouldn't go crazy. I had never flown over water before, either. My 6yo son did just fine with an iPad, DS, and a couple books.

Ugh that's us too!!!! 10 hour flight from NJ....don't think I can do it!!!! Going to break it up and stop in DLR a few days. I can't imagine what I'd be like up there for that long!!!!

So jealous of all of you counting down! We have been back 2 weeks now and I am still in a post vacation funk.

The long flight is really not that bad. We fly out of Phoenix on Hawaiian airlines and we are big fans of the non stop. I was impressed with Hawaiian Airlines service too. They are really friendly and honestly most everyone is so excited BC we are all headed to Hawaii that you kind of feel the island spirit as soon as you get on the plane. My favorite part was when the gate announcer had us all say "Aloha" on the count of 3 to the flight across from us heading to "sunny" Chicago. Lol :-)

Now that our kids are older, I think I would almost be willing to pay more for a nonstop flight. They just don't take as much out of us as those multiple connections and stops. Our last flights to Orlando were at least 10 hours of "travel time" and we were exhausted and sick of planes and airports after those flights.

Have a great time everyone! Aulani is incredible and Hawaii is just so beautiful, pictures just don't do it justice. Can't wait to go back!

That is how we always fly--my husband and daughter sit in the middle and window seat in one row and my little boy and I sit in the window and and middle seat behind them. I always angle my body away from the stranger in the aisle seat and toward my son in the window seat…gives me more leg room and I can look out his window….feels more spacious, too!

You also can ask your husband and child who are sitting in front of you not to put their seats back--that will give you more room. That is what we do. My husband and daughter don't put their seats back and that gives me enough room for my bad knee that doesn't bend very well. Besides, putting their seats back only gives them a couple of inches of lean to *their* seats whereas it makes *your* area feel much more crowded.

If you are feeling claustrophobic, put up the arm rest between you and your son so you don't feel so closed in. Also, have the air blowing on you. (I usually have it turned off because of the germ factor of recycled air, but having it on helps it not feel so closed in).

Good luck, you can do it!

We also splurged and upgraded to Economy Comfort to get a bit more room on the longest flights. Since we got our airline tickets using frequent flyer miles ( aka FREE) we thought it was worth spending a little if it helps improve our experience. Our return flight is 9 hours from Honolulu to Atlanta. :scared1:
