Who Invited My Mother In Law? A Moderately Deluxe TR All New X 3 & PTR Link 2/3 !!

Believe me, I know how it is to feel like your TR is a bummer. Don't worry, it's better to be truthful than fake, you know? I'm sure everyone reading is very excited to read either way, I know I am!

Even though the pictures are borrowed the food looks and sounds delicious!

Aw, the poor waiter. Ugh... that's so annoying. I'm sorry yall didn't enjoy your experience the way you were hoping to. I hope the next day was perfect!

It's not a bummer! I love your trip report! 'Ohana is one of our most favorite meals. DH makes fun of me because the wings are my favorite part!

Your MIL takes the cake! If the bread pudding wasn't so good, I would suggest she could wear it?? ;)

It sounds like your mother in law has no sense of humor whatsoever. It's hard to deal with somebody like that so I feel sorry for all of ya'll and your server. It's too back that you didn't just let the MIL hope on over to Epcot so that you three could enjoy some quiet time together.

wow it sounds like it's good that your mil was only there for 3 days. At least you still got to enjoy the food and know you want to go back. I LOVE Ohana's. :)

Hmm, well, at least MIL is leaving soon!!! :rotfl2:

I'm glad you mostly enjoyed your dinner at 'Ohana. I am still torn between whether I just don't like it that much or whether it was the situation (exhaustion, my mother acting like she wasn't enjoying anything the whole trip, a not-very-good server, terrible entertainment, etc.). Maybe I'll give it another chance someday. :confused3

The monorail situation sounded awful - especially at the end of a long day. Yikes.

Looking forward to the next update!

I appreciate you telling the ugly stuff that happened on the trip. Helps to remind us that being in Disney doesn't mean everything will be perfect. What matters is what you make of it. And it sounds like you did a great job of ignoring MIL & her ugliness & enjoying your time the best you could. :thumbsup2

That being said, your MIL is something. :crazy2: I would've been mortified when she said that to the server. Glad for y'alls sake that she was leaving the next day.

And the monorail troubles! UGH! That can be such a headache.

Oh my goodness, I just want to eat at Ohana! It always sounds so delicious!! Sorry that your meal was such a gong show! I'm excited to read all about maddies day!

:grouphug: on the MIl situation. Thank you for telling it like it was and not sugar coating it. I think we *all* have at least one of those relatives and can totally relate. I'm so glad that she is leaving and you will just have your family for the rest of the trip!

Jill in CO

Sorry you had monorail trouble on the way to dinner. We had plenty of that on our trip, so CM must be used to people showing up a little late to meals. I never drink either, and do not like when people try to pressure me to order one. When I was pregnant with Connor, the drunk wife of my husband’s co-worker kept insisting I could have wine. She said I was no fun when I told her that I would not drink it if I was not pregnant. The drinks were pre-poured with the meal, and I told her she could drink mine if she was worried about them going to waste. Not that she needed any more!

I do not know if I feel more badly for the server or you and Bryan. Your MIL has been pushing the boundaries a bit on this trip. That comment was unnecessary. Crap and I love witty waiters. They make the experience more fun. Lately, Connor has been cranky at quite a few meals. It is so hard for them when something is wrong, and they just cannot get comfortable. I am glad you enjoyed the food though. Bread pudding is never a dish I look forward to, so I understand your sentiments on that. “Dinner was off the hook.” That is funny.

Sorry you had monorail trouble again leaving. It really is a pain. I love that mousekeeping puts to stuffed animals to bed. They did that for Xander too. He loved that touch.

I absolutely cannot wait to dine at 'Ohana!

How awkward for the server, I cringed for the poor guy. I work in the service industry and it is really awful when a customer doesn't catch your drift.

LOL so much at 'That dinner was off the hook!'.

I also don't drink and so I sympathise a whole lot. My MIL always has to have some wine with meals. Like you I don't drink, and since we got together my boyfriend is almost the same, but he really hates to drink whilst eating. So first we're party to his mum begging him to have a drink, and then subjected to thinly veiled digs about how wonderful it will be once his sister is old enough to drink. Drives me nuts, if you want to drink have one, but leave us who'd rather not be. AND I ALWAYS HAVE TO WAIT FOR HER TO FINISH HER WINE TOO!!!

(Although she's not quite as patronising as boyfriend's stepmother who told me she was sorry I didn't drink but maybe when I 'grow up' I'll find some alcohol that I like the taste of - er I'm 28, and I like the taste of Coke so I'll stick with that thanks.)

I'm cant believe your MiL said that to your poor waiter! Geez, you would think the wine would have lightened her up:confused3

That's too funny about Maddie saying the meal was off the hook. My son comes up with some pretty crazy sayings too sometimes.

'Ohana looks good we have never been there for dinner. The dessert is the only thing that sounds really good to me though.

I think that some people probably just don't have a feel for sarcasm or joking. Which doesn't work well for me, because that's all I do. :lmao:

At least the meal itself was yummy. And, you had a great day to look forward to I'm guessing. :goodvibes

I can't believe your MIL...I hope it was just a bad day and that she's not really that mean to her grandkids all the time!

But, on a brighter (sorta) note, LOL at the molestation of Mickey! I must have pictures of my dd copping a feel on every character in WDW...that 'area' is just the right (wrong) height when little kids go in for a hug.

MiL was quite a pill on the trip. She's not like that most of the time, which made it even more frustrating that she was acting that way on vacation.

Poor Micky. You're right, it is the perfect height for the little kids to hug. We have some pics from the last trip of Maddie doing it too.:rotfl:

Oh no, how frustrating! At least the food was good?

Hopefully things got better the next day!!!

The food was GREAT! I can't wait to go back (without MiL)!

The next day was awesome. I can't wait to share some more upbeat parts of the trip!

I've subbed...actually a few weeks ago but I am trying to catch up--I am slow on everything right now! I decided to let you know I have been reading along since trying to catch up is taking a while!! :goodvibes Great pictures so far!!

Thanks for joining in! I'm updating pretty slowly, so you have time! :rotfl2: Thanks for the kind words, I really enjoyed playing with the camera and trying to get good shots. I think I took something like 5,000 pictures over 7 days!

I have been reading your TR, sounds like a great one. I can't believe your mil acted like that. But my mil does too at times. I bite my tongue alot of times as well but my dh is starting to finally notice things as well.

Thanks for joining in! It was a great trip. MiLs can be tricky huh? It didn't take DH long after we got married to notice his mom's actions. It's nice to know that he's usually on my side.

Don't worry about posting the good, the bad and the ugly on your TRs! We all know that not every moment at Disney is camera-worthy, and we've all been there. I'm so sorry that your MIL ruined your much anticipated meal at 'Ohana, but I am glad you at least got to enjoy the food (if not the company and atmosphere!). I'm really glad you get to enjoy the rest of the vacation solo!

Thank you for saying that. I didn't want to turn anyone off of the TR, and truth be told I didn't enjoy reliving those moments.

The food at 'Ohana was outstanding, we'd love to go back just the 3 of us. ;) The trip improved a lot the next day, and the best part was Bryan and I didn't fuss at each other for the whole trip! I think we'd had enough bad mojo. :lmao:

Fun dinner. At least at Ohana you have the opportunity to eat yourself into a meat coma to try to make the memories less vivid, even if you don't drink. Maybe you should have indulged in some more shrimp and steak? :confused3 :rotfl2:

:lmao::lmao: That's what I did wrong!

The monorail troubles don't sound like much fun either. I love riding the monorails, but I definitely don't want to be stuck on one.

I love the monorail, but this trip we had some trouble with it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how much fun you get to start having after lunch on the next day.

We had a great time for the rest of the trip! I'm looking forward to sharing it.

:rotfl2:

And this, in a nutshell, is why I love kids. They pick up on everything and then bring it out at the most hysterical moments! I mean, not only did she obviously here that phrase somewhere, she remembered it and used in in the proper context. Awesome!

So excited to hear about Maddie's day, hope it went as well as you were hoping!

Oh my gosh I love the crazy stuff that kids say! Maddie makes me laugh all day every day. She's always really careful about using stuff in the proper context. You can almost see the wheels turning in her head when she tries out a new line.

Maddie's day was magical! I can't wait to share it!

You know, I can't even say anything else about your MIL. I'm am just so angry for you.

:sad2: I couldn't believe her. I was so angry with her.

I think you have convinced me to beg John to try Ohana for Dinner. He's not into food like that, but let him eat steak. I'll attack the rest!:thumbsup2

Yay! Show him pictures of meat on a stick! That's all it took to get Bryan excited about the ADR! DH has let me make all of the ADR choices thus far, but I have a feeling he's going to be weighing in on future trips ;)
Maddie's day will be awesome...after lunch for sure!:p

Maddie's day was great, especially after lunch. :rotfl:

Picture poaching! I'm telling!

Please don't! I don't wanna get in trouble!

Yeah, the transportation at the deluxes is either really great or really awful.

We did a lot of meals at the monorail resorts this trip, and it really changed my view of the "awesomeness" of staying at one. I honestly think we'll land in the Epcot area if we go deluxe. The monorail service was so undependable this trip, I like the idea of being able to walk. (of course CR would work ;))

Foreshadowing?

::yes::

Why does she care if anyone else has a drink? Just get your wine and shut up.

::yes::

Love that bread.

It was great! (we ate it 3 times on this trip :rotfl:)

Does she always lack a sense of humor?

:rolleyes1

Yup. That was foreshadowing way up there.

::yes::

Agreed. I think my expectations were set too high but I didn't think it was as amazing as everyone was saying.

It was really good, just not the stuff I dream about. That'd be oreo bonbons from the Beach Club, and those darn wontons.

Does she watch the kids' sitcoms on Nick and Disney? My daughter comes out with some funny things watching those shows.

I think it was probably one of those or Phineus and Ferb.

Great update Shannon!

Thanks! Great comments Laura!

Hmmm...MIL leaves the next day, and then things are positive...I think there might be a correlation there:lmao:!

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

That lady is getting on my last nerve and I wasn't even there!! It is so easy for me to imagine my own lovely MIL saying and doing these exact things.

Other than the negativity, I'm glad y'all liked 'Ohana. We have an ADR there on our next trip and we've never been. Also on our next trip? No MIL:rotfl2:!

I knew that you would understand! I actually thought of you and your MiL often during the trip!

'Ohana was so yummy! I can't wait to go back. I'm sure everything will be even better when we're happy!

I hope that you guys like it, I honestly think there's something for everyone there.

NO MIL???? You must be so upset about that. :lmao:

Believe me, I know how it is to feel like your TR is a bummer. Don't worry, it's better to be truthful than fake, you know? I'm sure everyone reading is very excited to read either way, I know I am!

Thanks Marissa, I appreciate that.:goodvibes

Even though the pictures are borrowed the food looks and sounds delicious!

Aw, the poor waiter. Ugh... that's so annoying. I'm sorry yall didn't enjoy your experience the way you were hoping to. I hope the next day was perfect!

I felt so bad for the waiter. He'd did such a great job taking care of us, I hated that he had to put up with that.

We still loved the food, so that's something! We'll be back for sure.

The next day was tons of fun, I can't wait to share it with all of you!

It's not a bummer! I love your trip report! 'Ohana is one of our most favorite meals. DH makes fun of me because the wings are my favorite part!

Thank you so much! :goodvibes

We should eat at 'Ohana together, you can have my wings if I can have your noodles. ;)

Your MIL takes the cake! If the bread pudding wasn't so good, I would suggest she could wear it?? ;)

:lmao::lmao: That's the best thing I've heard all day! Why didn't I think of that? :rotfl2:

It sounds like your mother in law has no sense of humor whatsoever. It's hard to deal with somebody like that so I feel sorry for all of ya'll and your server. It's too back that you didn't just let the MIL hope on over to Epcot so that you three could enjoy some quiet time together.

I still don't understand why she acted that way. She's going to WDW with BiL and SiL and their kids next week, I'll be interested to know how she behaves with them.

We should have let her try to get to Epcot. Instead we just retreated to our room.

wow it sounds like it's good that your mil was only there for 3 days. At least you still got to enjoy the food and know you want to go back. I LOVE Ohana's. :)

We can't wait to go back to 'Ohana. We tried so many restaurants for the first time this trip, and 'Ohana is definitely on the Must Do list now.

I wasn't sad when she left.:lmao:

Hmm, well, at least MIL is leaving soon!!! :rotfl2:

::yes::

:confused3

We really liked it. The food was good, the service was excellent, and no ukulele players got too close to us. :lmao:

There are a few places that everyone loves that I just don't. (One is coming up for breakfast the next day).

The monorail situation sounded awful - especially at the end of a long day. Yikes.

Looking forward to the next update!

The monorail was rough this trip. All the problems we had made me rethink my dream resorts for sure. I honestly think that I'd only stay at CR in the MK area since you can walk. I hate being trapped in the monorail hopelessly waiting to start moving.

The next updates will be much more fun!

I appreciate you telling the ugly stuff that happened on the trip. Helps to remind us that being in Disney doesn't mean everything will be perfect. What matters is what you make of it. And it sounds like you did a great job of ignoring MIL & her ugliness & enjoying your time the best you could. :thumbsup2

Thanks Amanda. We tried really hard to ignore her, and we did have a fantastic trip over all.

That being said, your MIL is something. :crazy2: I would've been mortified when she said that to the server. Glad for y'alls sake that she was leaving the next day.

And the monorail troubles! UGH! That can be such a headache.

I felt so sorry for the server. Needless to say, we weren't too upset when she had to leave. ;)

The monorail situation was rough. We had a bunch of problems with the monorail this trip, and usually I love it!

Oh my goodness, I just want to eat at Ohana! It always sounds so delicious!! Sorry that your meal was such a gong show! I'm excited to read all about maddies day!

It was soooo gooood! The meal was certainly not what we'd hoped for, but the food was great!

Maddie's day was fun!

:grouphug: on the MIl situation. Thank you for telling it like it was and not sugar coating it. I think we *all* have at least one of those relatives and can totally relate. I'm so glad that she is leaving and you will just have your family for the rest of the trip!

Jill in CO

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the kind words. I hope that everyone learns from this TR not to let "that" family member join them on vacation.:lmao:

I was pretty glad that she was leaving too.

Sorry you had monorail trouble on the way to dinner. We had plenty of that on our trip, so CM must be used to people showing up a little late to meals.

the monorail was pretty rough on this trip. It was disappointing. And I really hate being late, so that put me on edge too.

:sad2: I don't know why people act like that. If you want a drink, have one. No one needs to join you.

Trying to coerce a pregnant woman to drink? She must have been drunk! Did she drink yours?

I do not know if I feel more badly for the server or you and Bryan. Your MIL has been pushing the boundaries a bit on this trip. That comment was unnecessary. Crap and I love witty waiters. They make the experience more fun. Lately, Connor has been cranky at quite a few meals. It is so hard for them when something is wrong, and they just cannot get comfortable. I am glad you enjoyed the food though. Bread pudding is never a dish I look forward to, so I understand your sentiments on that. “Dinner was off the hook.” That is funny.

I felt so badly for that server. He was doing such a great job, and then she had to be a jerk to him. A good server can really make or break a meal, and this one was excellent. Poor Connor, I hope that passes quickly for you guys.

I like bread pudding, but it's not my fave. Now the oreo bonbons from the Beach Club? I'd kill for those. :lmao:

Dinner was off the hook. :rotfl2: At least I know she wants to go back!

Sorry you had monorail trouble again leaving. It really is a pain. I love that mousekeeping puts to stuffed animals to bed. They did that for Xander too. He loved that touch.

I love it when they arrange the stuffed animals. Maddie always gets such a kick out of it. At first it freaked her out though-the idea that someone else was sneaking in to play with her toys. :lmao:

I absolutely cannot wait to dine at 'Ohana!

It was awesome! I hope that you love it too!

How awkward for the server, I cringed for the poor guy. I work in the service industry and it is really awful when a customer doesn't catch your drift.

There's nothing worse than a cranky customer who won't have fun.

LOL so much at 'That dinner was off the hook!'.

:lmao: She must have liked it!

Some people can be so rude to the people they're dining with! Who cares if I drink or not? Wow. Maybe they'll have an excellent time drinking together. :sad2:

(Although she's not quite as patronising as boyfriend's stepmother who told me she was sorry I didn't drink but maybe when I 'grow up' I'll find some alcohol that I like the taste of - er I'm 28, and I like the taste of Coke so I'll stick with that thanks.)

Oh my goodness. Waiting for you to grow into drinking?

:lmao: I like your style.

I'm cant believe your MiL said that to your poor waiter! Geez, you would think the wine would have lightened her up:confused3

That's what I thought! Lighten up! You've gotten a buzz!

That's too funny about Maddie saying the meal was off the hook. My son comes up with some pretty crazy sayings too sometimes.

Don't you love that stuff? You can tell how proud of themselves they are too :lmao:

'Ohana looks good we have never been there for dinner. The dessert is the only thing that sounds really good to me though.

It was really good! The noodles, meat, salad, and bread were my favorites. I liked dessert a lot, but it's so built up on the Dis that I expected it to taste like heaven. :rotfl2:

I think that some people probably just don't have a feel for sarcasm or joking. Which doesn't work well for me, because that's all I do. :lmao:

:lmao: Sarcasm is my second language. I always worry when I'm writing the TR because sometimes sarcasm and humor don't translate too well in print. :rotfl:

At least the meal itself was yummy. And, you had a great day to look forward to I'm guessing. :goodvibes

The food was great, we loved it and can't wait to go back. The next day we became a party of 3 again, and we had such a wonderful day. I can't wait to get this TR back to a positive place!

I'm loving your trip report. Even if it isn't positive all the time it helps us see that others have the some of the same issues as us. Even on vacation at the happiest place on earth mishaps can and usually do happen.

Your MIL is a trip. Maybe the wine loosened up her tongue to the point where she didn't care what she said. LOL!!

Maddie makes me smile with her comments. She is such a entertaining little girl.

Can't wait to read more on the trip sans MIL. LOL!!

I'm glad you were able to at least enjoy the food! Ohana is one of the restuarants we are most anticipating as well!

OF course poor Maddie was tired, you guys had a long day! I expect similar situations with my two (even more so my older one!).

I feel bad for your waiter, and for you and Bryan! I know I would feel very sorry after MIL made a comment like that. My MIL is very rude by nature. English is her second language and she is often harsh and unpolite. She is used to be served (had maids etc) and I HATE the way she talks to servers. My DH often will say something to her about it! Drives me crazy!

I spent my lunch hour catching up but I will try and make the comments minimal! I know I stated it before but your pictures are so great!! 5000! You sound like me! My kids just roll their eyes at me. I also thank you for the Title Page...made catching up easy but I missed out on responses so I may duplicate! And I love your tiltes....very clever!

*Cinderella pictures were priceless! Loved them!!

*1900 Park Fare was such a bust last year that DH even mentioned the other night that he didn't care where we went this year as long as we didn't go back there. I may never get him there again!

*But the Step Sisters were awesome!!

*Great firework shots!! :thumbsup2

*The morning MiL spoke about her purchases for your niece and nephew made me feel for Maddie. My GM did the same thing with my sister and I only she would get things for my cousins' cousins and not us! And they weren't related to her!! :sad2:

*We love, LOVE Tusker House! Isn't the setting amazing! Funny about the bathrooms though. I haven't ventured there yet.

*Your comment on the rarity of the KS photos...did you catch my
post?! :lmao:

*Good to know Yak and Yeti was good! I have heard several people speak well of it. I need to add it to my list of places to try!

*Also love FOTLK! I post tons of pictures from there!

*Flower and Garden pictures were awesome (I know I have said it before. Sounds like I am kissing up! :rotfl: But your pictures really were great!)

*Ohana and the breakdowns.....even though that is so hard to write and relive, I like it when people tell the truth in their TRs! I have posted many breakdowns and while we all wish that all vacations are rosy the truth is sometimes things just don't go that way. I am glad to know it improves though!

*Ohana food: This is a first for us in July and I am glad you gave it good reviews even with the negativity floating around that night!

All of your posts have just made me that much more excited and anxious to head (further) south!!! I post slowly too so I understand and I am also glad since now I am all caught up!! :thumbsup2
