Who Invited My Mother In Law? A Moderately Deluxe TR All New X 3 & PTR Link 2/3 !!

OK, I think I have Kadence convinced to ride HM the "next" :cool2: time we go to Disney! :lmao: I just showed her that Maddie did it, (didn't let her read the head buried part) and she said if the little girl can, she can!

I just really want to do it and I'd feel dumb doing it all by myself. Do you think 2 adults and a skinny kid could fit in one doom buggy?

Boat faster than Monorail? :rolleyes1 Good job on letting go with the small battles, WIN the War!:lmao:

I can't wait to see M, M & Y show, it's my #1 this time around! You did get some nice photos! I play with 2 cameras during the fireworks, and I get some good, some Blah!

2:30am:eek: I would have seriously thought about putting the cases outside the door, Kiddding.........maybe:rolleyes1

Considering your MIL did was so decisive while shopping during the day, I bet she ended up not buying anything at all anyway :rotfl:

Gotta love the bribery! I'm sure I would have done the same thing for a stuffed animal when I was her age (or maybe I probably still would). Glad yall finally got to ride some rides!

Your DH got great MSEP pics! And your Wishes pictures are wonderful! Hooray for 'breaking the rules' hahah.

Was there no other time your MiL could have done all that shopping? Oh boy.

OMG 2:30 I think I would have killed her right thee and then. Ok well maybe not kill her but smack her up side the head. Hope you got payback by wakeing her early to go to a park. GRea pictures of the fireworks. We used to bribe two of ours to go on some things. Now our youngest would not ride HM after the first time. It took him until he was about 19 before he went on again.

What a cliffhanger! Oh man! Now I'm really looking forward to the next update! Loving the pictures! :)

For someone who claims to know a lot about Disney, your MIL is pretty clueless! Serious, who would ever think fighting upstream on main st with a stroller is a good idea, glad you stood your ground!

I also can't believe that she retuned at 230 am, did she think you had nothing better to do than sit up half the night?

Bribery! The Sign of a great Parenting! Unfortuantely my kid refuses to be bribed most of the time. Not that I stop trying. DD4 LOVES Halloween and all the scary stuff. She's the one in the scary Isle of the store touching everything while the eight year olds pass by with their eyes closed. (We've gotten quite the looks from some people.) I have shown her youtube video of HM trying to prep her and telling her it's only pretend. Now, she keeps asking to " see the scary movie ". I know we'll easily get her into the ride, just not sure how she will react once there. You just never know with these preschoolers.

Kudos to your patience with your MIL. I am not so sure I could do as well.

I'm glad that Maddie tolerated HM (at least, in exchange for a balloon! :thumbsup2)! Your Wishes pictures are great! One of these days, I have to watch it from Main Street, I know!!

Wow, I don't think I could shop until 2:30 AM, even at Disney!

Hi everyone! I have to say that tonight I'm feeling kind of sorry for my MiL. I just found out that my BiL and SiL who she had been planning to go to WDW with next month just booked their trip during the one week of the summer that she can't go. She has a big work conference during the last week of June every year that she cannot miss, and that's the week they're going. She was planning to go with them before we even invited her to join us, so I know that she must be really disappointed. She was really excited to go to WDW with all 3 of her grandkids this year.

What a fun night in MK! :goodvibes

I have also been talking to Reid about Haunted Mansion. I tell him it's just "spooky fun" and that Mickey would never let anything bad happen to us in his park. We also got the Disneyland for the XBOX Kinect & it has a game centered around the Haunted Mansion. I'm hoping all of these things will finally make him okay with giving this ride a try.

I'm glad y'all put your foot down with MIL & went the way you wanted to go for the parade. That's just silly that she chose the boat over the monorail. And she didn't get to your room for her luggage until 230am?!?

You got some really nice firework pictures! :thumbsup2

That's a great idea, telling him that Mickey is looking out for you guys. I wish that I had thought of that. I hope that he tries it, if only so that you and Ed can go on it! If I'm being honest, that was our motivation. Other stuff we pushed for because we honestly thought that she'd enjoy it.

It was time to stop being so pliable. The boat vs. monorail thing still confounds me. If we were leaving a different resort, she may have had a case. However I know that the monorail takes about 30 seconds. :sad2:

Aw man, dinner at 1900 is so incredible! It's something I will definitely do again, I love love loved it!!

I also love the rapuznel dress, maddie looks so incredibly adorable. You guys certainly had a great night at MK, oh man, barnstormer, so awesome, but so TINY. Definitely made for small children.

I'm excited to read more!

We love the characters at 1900 Park Fare, so fun!

Thank you! She loves that dress so much. We had a lot of fun, I'm so glad that we finally got on some rides! Maddie loved the Barnstormer, but you're right, it's definitely child sized!

Great update!!!

Your MIL returned at 2:30 from shopping!!!??? I hope she didn't think you were waiting up for her??!! Did she buy the whole store??

Thanks! DH tried to wait up, but we all fell asleep. She was searching for a certain pair of Crocs for my nephew apparently. :confused3 I'm not sure what all she bought, but she did tell us that she bought a lot for my niece and nephew. I like to shop, but probably couldn't have made it that long!

Wow, she really is considerate, isn't she?:sad2: Awesome update though, those pictures of Wishes are amazing!

Yeah, but I got my revenge. We had 8 am breakfast ressies :rotfl:

Thank you! I was playing with the settings all week trying to figure out how to best use that camera.

Wow your MIL sure did a lot of shopping. I hope she bought Maddie some cute stuff.

She's not a huge shopper in real life, so her shopping needs shocked me. She didn't get anything (that I know of) for Maddie, but she said that she got a lot for my niece and nephew!

The HM queue is so much fun, isn't it! We played there for quite a while, but our dd had already gone back to the room w/ my Mom & MIL that night (she rode another time during the day). I hope Maddie wasn't too scared on any of the other dark rides! Last year when we went, we had a bonafide thrill seeker on our hands (she was 40.5 inches and rode everything she was tall enough for, aside from ToT). This year she was afraid of anything in the dark - she screamed and cried (real tears!) during the dark portion of the People Mover!

Such a fun queue! We could have played there for a long time, and I think Maddie liked it better than the Pooh queue! She was much more brave on this trip than the last, but some things were just not happening.

Isn't it funny how kids are fine with things one day and scared of them the next? There's just no explaining it. Maddie said she was scared of the Nemo ride because of Bruce this time!

2:30 AM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ack...that's so late, or early, depending on your perspective! She should have waited until the next morning to get her things and just slept in her park clothes for the sake of being considerate!

So very, very late/early. She'd been up for 23 1/2 hours by then. I couldn't have done it.

Luckily, we were able to fall right back asleep after she got her luggage.

Love the shots from the Lego store! That is one of the few places that my DS is looking forward to. We walked by one in a mall here and he said that he didn't want anything from there because he wanted to save his money for the Lego Disney store. That it's the only one that he will shop at.

LOL!! I love the bribery to get her to go on HM. My son does not respond to bribes anymore. It was easy when he was Maddie's age.

Oh and I loved the picture of Stitch. It makes me laugh. Because I was walking through Downtown Disney and looking at a map. Well, apparently DS had seen him squirting water on people. Well, he stopped in front of me and I just stopped. I was shocked when, to my surprise, I got squirted with water. LOL! DS still laughs about that day when he tricked me.

And, I just realized that I never asked MiL for her permission to post photos of her online (because then she might want to read this :lmao:) so I've removed the pictures of her. I also won't be able to post any family PP pics until we get to day 3 1/2 of the trip, but if I find a really good one, I'll blur her out. :thumbsup2

I am really enjoying reading your TR :thumbsup2 You are so much like me (Type A ;) ,) so it's "fun" to read along and see that I'm not the only one who gets frustrated when someone else tries to be "in control" of decisions that I know aren't the best option. ;) I also had to :rotfl: about being excited to find a trash can to sit on. Where else in the world would people come back from vacation and say "we were excited we found a nice trash can for our daughter to sit on!" Only in Disney! :goodvibes

Oh, and P.S., I was 32 the first time I rode Haunted Mansion (I just hate haunted house type things, but we did the Keys to the Kingdom Tour and that was one of the rides, and I didn't want to embarrass myself by not riding, so I finally had to. I had no idea it was funny, not scary.) So tell Maddie she's braver than me! ha!

Thanks! I am quite Type A :lmao: I really hate confrontation though, so I never say anything, just complain about it later :lmao:

Isn't that funny! Excited to find a trash can, and talking to strangers about anything--only at Disney!

That's funny! I wish someone had told you that the ghosts were more funny than scary! I would have done the same thing, I never want to call attention to myself. Did you enjoy Keys to the Kingdom? I'd love to do that tour some day!

2:30AM??? Can't wait to see what time she wakes up in the morning! :scared1:

HaHa!! I had everyone at the bus stop by 7:00:lmao:

OK, I think I have Kadence convinced to ride HM the "next" :cool2: time we go to Disney! :lmao: I just showed her that Maddie did it, (didn't let her read the head buried part) and she said if the little girl can, she can!

I just really want to do it and I'd feel dumb doing it all by myself. Do you think 2 adults and a skinny kid could fit in one doom buggy?

Yay! but, the poor kid thinks she has a year and a half to prepare!!

I'm glad that Maddie inspired her though!

I think that you'll all fit fine. We probably could have squeezed all 4 of us on, but I didn't want to hear MiL's thoughts on Maddie being scared. :rotfl2:

I'll post this on your PTR too, but I saw a skirt at Old Navy today that might be perfect for the Perry shirt. I thought of you immediately. If you don't like it, I'd love to make you one too! :thumbsup2

Boat faster than Monorail? :rolleyes1 Good job on letting go with the small battles, WIN the War!:lmao:

I know! Thank you! That was my plan, well at the time, everyone surviving the trip was my plan

I can't wait to see M, M & Y show, it's my #1 this time around! You did get some nice photos! I play with 2 cameras during the fireworks, and I get some good, some Blah!

I love, love, love M,M, Y. I would honestly choose that over Wishes if I had to pick. I had plenty of bad pictures, I only shared the good ones! :lmao:

2:30am:eek: I would have seriously thought about putting the cases outside the door, Kiddding.........maybe:rolleyes1

I told DH he was waiting up. I'm sure he considered doing that.

Considering your MIL did was so decisive while shopping during the day, I bet she ended up not buying anything at all anyway

She didn't buy anything all day, but I guess she saved it all for EMH. She did buy a lot (I think) for my niece and nephew.

Oh boy.

:lmao: It was our only chance to go on HM! We had to do it!

Thank you so much! I am so short that I rarely get to see fireworks shows without anyone in front of me. It was such a nice treat to be able to break the rules!

Seriously! We were only in the Emporium 12 times that day!

I was half asleep, but I did remind her that we had to be at the bus stop at 7 am!!

Thanks! I was really pleased with some of them.

We really thought that bribery was our only chance. It's not the last time either. :lmao: She was glad that she did some of them though.

I'll bet that Maddie will be 19 before she tries it again!

What a cliffhanger! Oh man! Now I'm really looking forward to the next update! Loving the pictures! :)

:lmao: Thank you!

I also can't believe that she retuned at 230 am, did she think you had nothing better to do than sit up half the night?

Right?! She hasn't really done WDW with too many people (and certainly not small kids) for many years, but you'd have to assume that your son and his wife (who'd been 9 months before) might have some good ideas!

I saw my life flashing before my eyes imagining trying to get up Main Street! :lmao: I know that we didn't have to be right up front for the show, but it's the way we like to end our first night. Not sure what she was thinking.

Apparently. We both fell asleep, and she commented later that she had to knock for 5 minutes before we answered. :lmao:

Loving this! I'm getting lots of laughs! Can't wait for Day 2popcorn::

Thanks! It might be less entertaining when MiL leaves us midway through Day 3, but I hope you'll still enjoy it! :lmao:

I have a much lighter week this week than last, so I'm hoping to get some updates done soon!

Bribery! The Sign of a great Parenting! Unfortuantely my kid refuses to be bribed most of the time. Not that I stop trying. DD4 LOVES Halloween and all the scary stuff. I'm so glad that you agree that bribery is the key to good parenting! :rotfl2: Maddie is a big scaredy cat, we caught her at the perfect time. She hates Halloween decorations, and was even scared of my brother's stuffed Yoda for a while!
I think it's great that your DD isn't afraid! I hope that holds up at WDW!

Thanks, remember though, it was still the first day :lmao: I do tend to avoid confrontation with her as a rule though. I don't want to put Bryan in a bad spot, but he does have to hear all about it after the fact though :lmao:

I'm glad that Maddie tolerated HM (at least, in exchange for a balloon! :thumbsup2)! Your Wishes pictures are great! One of these days, I have to watch it from Main Street, I know!!

Wow, I don't think I could shop until 2:30 AM, even at Disney!

We were so excited that we got to go on HM! It probably would have been easier to just give her $10, but somehow that seems dirtier :rotfl::rotfl:

Thank you! I love to watch from Main Street, and we try to do it on our first and last nights, but I don't blame you. I really hate having to line up for a spot hours in advance. There are so many things that I'd rather spend 1 1/2 hours doing in the MK.

I'd love to watch from the Poly though, so you've got me there. ;)

Wait until you hear where we watched from on Day 3!! It was crazy!

We had better luck with the boats last trip, so it is too bad your MIL was wrong about it on your trip. It can get very cold on the dock leaving GF. I am with Bryan on IASW. It is okay with me if we skip that, but of course Xander wanted to ride it twice last trip. Luckily, I sneaked out of one by making Crap take him the second time. The Haunted Mansion gets easier each time Xander rides it. Maddie will be a pro on it before you know. It has been a while since we’ve rode the barnstormer. Next trip, it needs to be on our must list. Glad to hear Maddie enjoyed it so much.

Bryan got some excellent shots of the parade. Getting the lights at night without making the pictures blurry is something I still struggle with. The MMY show is amazing. It makes me emotional too. Your Wishes shots are beautiful. It was nice of the CM to allow you to stand where you were able to get those shots. I am glad that the solution only got half of your socks. Your mother in law shopped for over 3 hours! Sorry she woke you up so late.

Your BIL & SIL planned a trip to WDW and never told her the dates? It's only a month away and she just found out now when they are going?

It was freezing on that dock! But, it was pretty cold in general-especially in the morning and evening-for the first few days of the trip.

Bryan really doesn't enjoy the ride, but he tolerates it for Maddie. The only two childhood trips I had were with my grandparents. My grandma did not like rides at all, and the only one I remember her riding was IASW. I had lost both my grandparents by the time I was 21 (and was very, very close to them), so IASW will always be special to me. It was grandma's favorite ride! But, I totally understand why some don't enjoy it. By the last room I'm usually getting pretty antsy. I'm glad that you were able to avoid a second ride! :lmao:

I think that HM will be a tough sell for Maddie next trip, but she might surprise
us. She loved Barnstormer so much! I had never ridden it before, and I can see why she liked it. It's a perfect roller coaster for little beginners, and the themeing was great!

Thank you! He did get some nice ones. He has a real advantage being 6'2". I had a hard time with that too. I just kept switching the setting to see what happened. One of these days I'm going to read that manual (and the book) :lmao: I was so excited to have the chance to get some pictures. I am only 4'11", so even being able to see the whole show is a luxury! Thank goodness that it was only half the socks, and the others ended up fine once they dried. And, since it was so cold, we had the heat on. They were dry in no time! She shopped for all of EMH. Luckily once I'm asleep I don't have a hard time falling back asleep. And, that night we were all so tired that it would have taken a lot more than MiL to wake us up!

Your BIL & SIL planned a trip to WDW and never told her the dates? It's only a month away and she just found out now when they are going?

Yup. When we first invited MiL, she said she didn't know if she'd join us because she was going with BiL and SiL in June. They had invited her around Christmas. The worst part of this? BiL works at the same company as MiL. So, he knew full well that she wouldn't be able to join them before he booked it.

I feel super bad for MiL. And for my niece for that matter. My SiL makes a really big deal of making sure that DN gets to do everything that Maddie does (DN is only 3--this is going to get ugly as they get older). But, they waited to book a June 22 vacation until this weekend!!! :scared1: They are expecting to be able to do everything that we did for Maddie (BBB, princess meals, character meets, etc) but they're doing it so last minute that I fear that they'll all be disappointed. DN most of all.

And, they're staying at the Poly. My dream resort. (I think. Lately I've been leaning toward the Beach Club for my #1 pick). Jerks.

I have just read your other trip report and now the beginning of this one I love them both so much Maddie is so so beautiful and seems to have such a charming personality! Really looking forward to reading more of this report!

Oh wow... I don't think I could handle your MiL at Disney World.:lmao::rotfl2: I'm too hard headed, I'd have had to put her in her place about her Disney touring knowlege a few times.:rolleyes1

I'm glad to see you finally got to get on some rides, and thankfully, Maddie didn't swear off Haunted Mansion for the rest of her life. Maybe this will make the other dark rides easier.

(I mean really, fight our way up Main Street? At 8:45? With a stroller?

:scared1:

Soon enough the Magic, the Memories, and You began. MiL had never seen the show and was as impressed as I’d hoped she be. I cried.

I love that show. I spend the entire time wondering how did they do that?

And the balloon? Huge pain in the butt. It was really hard to keep it at waist level so that it wasn’t hitting people in the back of the head or blocking anyone’s view. Mostly, people ended up bouncing off of it when they backed into us.

I can imagine that would be annoying to carry around.

Maddie was asleep before we made it down Main Street.

I kind of miss having a stroller.

Back in the room, we put Maddie to bed and began to unpack.

You're making ME tired!

I pulled the travel bottle that held Maddie’s ear piercing cleaning stuff out of the bag only to discover it empty. I dug through the top pocket trying to figure out what had soaked up the solution. Everything seemed dry until I got to my socks. They were soaked.

I always seem to have something open up in my luggage no matter how carefully I pack. Last trip it was some lotion but luckily it was on the return flight.

I woke up at 2:30 am to someone knocking on the door. MiL had finally returned from shopping.

She really loves to shop!

Great photos Shannon!

Ahhh, using bribery to get a little kid on a potentially scary ride. We've done it, too - it makes me feel a bit guilty, but if we can get on the ride, I can justify doing it :) The older kid who was planning to ride anyway gets the short end of the stick in my case, but we tell him it's for his own good.

AWESOME fireworks pics!

My guess is that your MiL did no shopping and instead just rode Space Mountain 17 times. Am I right?

Seems like you had a great day, minor speedbumps aside. Can't wait to read more!
