Who here uses CM's SBC+ for digital scrapping?

I love being able to bring my laptop into the living room in the evenings while everyone is watching tv or playing the wii. We also brought ours on vacation and I scrapped our pictures from that day at night after the kids went to sleep. It was fun to have a finished book when we got home. (this was not a Disney trip, btw)

Wow bsquare! I am so impressed :) That is a great idea!!! I had my laptop with me and I downloaded the pictures every night but I didn't think to scrap when the kids went to sleep. I was watching whatever my sister and husband were watching on TV!!

Thanks bsquare for the advice! Did you put the SBC on your laptop to begin with? I wonder if I can take it from my desktop to my laptop? Any guesses?

Hello! First - a warning - it this is a long boring read :)

I have my SBC+ on my laptop and all of my packages and freebies on my external hard drive.

Technically, the program is purchased for one machine. I had a customer try to put it on her desktop and then laptop. Eventually, the one on her desktop got a message when she updated that said the program was loaded on another machine and she could no longer update. The next time she opened it up on her desktop, it gave her an error message that would not allow her to open her storybooks on that computer.

I suppose if she had not had her desktop attached to the internet when she opened SBC+ then CM would not have been able to flag it. But then you won't get the updates.

I purchased a second copy for our desktop so that my daughter can scrapbook too!!

Hey ladies I have a question. How many of you have SBC+ on a laptop? I just purchased my first laptop (told DH that I needed it since I have returned to college!!!:lmao: ) and am wondering about putting SBC plus on it. Anyone have pros/cons on using laptop vs. desktop? TIA

Tiffany

Forgot to mention that I started SBC+ with 1 MB of RAM - I added an extra MB to my old laptop and it ran better with 2 MB of RAM. Now my new laptop has 3 MB and it is really fast!!

I put it on my laptop for the convenience of it (like for taking it to crops), but it just took up too much space. And yes, the program is for one machine, so you'd have to purchase a second copy for your desktop.

Right now on our PC we have the program on the hard drive and everything else on the external drive. The pages/books do take up a lot of room and can eat up that extra disc space fast! I should know - it happened to me.

I originally loaded the program onto my laptop but my hard drive was getting too full. I already had an external hard drive for all my pictures so I moved the program onto my external. I guess theoretically I could connect my external to my desktop and use the program from there (it would still only be on one machine at a time) but I haven't ever tried so I'm not sure.

I like the idea of putting it on an external hard drive. My laptop has 3 g and my desktop has 1 so I don't know about running out of space. I will probably only use the laptop for typing papers, looking up things on the net and scrapbooking. Who would have thought that scrapbooking would become so complicated!!!:lmao:

I really wanted to put my program on my external but Corporate warned against it saying that it could corrupt files. One of my Girlfriends did it and she was fine until she accidentally forgot to make sure that she was saving everything to her external. It somehow corrupted one of her files and she had to call Corporate and they were only able to help her retrive half of the Storybook. She still has it on her external, she is just careful to make sure that when she saves that it is always saving to her external. She has not had problems since then. I am not brave enough to put it on my external because I am usually scrapbooking withe three young children running around and I do not trust myself to make sure that it is saving to the correct place :)

I have SBC+ on my laptop and have had no problems. Although I did notice that my hard drive is 75% full! I may consider putting MM on an external drive.

I'm also working on a recipe book. It's so much fun! I have some recipes from my Grandma (in her hand writing) and some of my Moms too. So I asked my sisters to send me their families favorite recipes, in their hand writing too. I'm putting them all in a book with lots of old family pictures. It's so much fun. This will be my Christmas gift to my Mom and if my sister's want a copy they can order one. The beauty of SBC+ is that you can incorporate other papers into your book. For example I did a couple of 2 page layouts with Christmas recipes and I used Christmas papers and embellishments for those.

One sister still hasn't sent her recipes and I'm already up to 28 pages! Hope she doesn't send too many.

I finished my whole book! I ended up ordering from Shutterfly instead of CM, because the price was SO much better from Shutterfly. I think CM needs to offer some deals or hostess incentives on their book printing, or they will not be getting any of my business. They are just too expensive! Anyway, here's the link

Labdogs,

I just looked at your whole book and it is awesome! Nice work!

Did you scan in the maps and photopass pictures? And where/how did you get the words 'WISHES' in the sparkly blue color? I have the Waltograph font, but don't know how to do it in sparkly color like that.

Also, the mickey ear outlines on a few pages. Did you 'make' those yourself or get it somewhere?

Thanks, and again, WOW!:thumbsup2

Let's see --

I scanned the maps and a few other pieces of memorabilia
I bought the photopass CD, so I had all of the pictures on my computer already (no need to scan)
The word Wishes was built from a digital font made by Britt-ish Designs from her Happiest Kit on Earth Freebie
Some mickey outlines I made, some are from digital kits that were either free or purchased. I have links to the kits I use a lot on my blog.

Glad you enjoyed the book!

Hi Jessica!

Great book :) I love it! Did you do each page as a 12 x 12 print and then save and load into Shutterfly or did you do it as a continuous storybook and then save each page - does this question make sense?

Yes, your question makes sense. I did the pages as a StoryBook in SBC+. I saved each one as a .jpg as I finished the page. I also did my covers as "pages" in the book and saved those as .jpgs. I used one of Shutterfly's "papers" for the spine background. I ran out of patience for figuring out how to make my own spine!! Hope that helps!

Just got my SBC+ today and can't get it to completely download. So disappointed. Spent 2 hours so far. Loaded disc 1, now I have the same thing as I had the freebe. Go to download disc 2 and enter Serial # and it says INVALID! Help, someone please. Icon on desktop only says Storybook 2.0! I don't like this program so far. I am so confused, and my CM consultant never used digital before. What do I do with disc #2? I have had a horible day! Gave myself a fat lip while excersizing at Curves (I know- how, I don't know). Bad hair day, cold and rainy (bad for my back and neck),burned dinner, and now can't get CM to load. Take me to Disney, please. It will all be better!!!!

Carol -- Call CM. They have great technical support people who will be able to talk you through the installation. Wait, I just looked at my desktop icon for SBC+ and it says StoryBook Creator 2. Try opening the software and see what it says. I seem to remember being confused about that when I installed it, too. Anyway, give CM a call. They will have you up and running in no time!

Thanks!!! I am finally up and running!! Now it is time to play around a little before I go to bed. CM was great!

Carol, I hope that you're having fun with the program. Be sure to let us know if you have any questions.

Okay - I've a question. Just how to you keep all your kits & stuff organized without having a list that's yards long? I must admit that I've been going a bit nuts downloading goodies, but it takes me so long to find what I need, scrolling down the huge list. And I can see that it's only going to get worse before it gets better.

I try to organize it by designer, then kit, but how do you handle stuff you get from a blog train? Keep it under one heading, like "birthday train blog"? But then, how would you know what was done by which designer?

Just something that I've been dealing with and I'm wondering what everyone else does. Any comments or ideas?

This has always been a challenge for me too! I keep reorganizing. My lastest reorganization has lead me to general groups - Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring, all the major holidays and also school and birthday/Celebration. I also have categories like ribbon and glitter too... I keep the jpg of the kit or download in the file so that I can credit the designer. The kits that I use a lot or don't really belong in a category - I do the same as you. Designer, Kit, Name of Kit. All my Britt stuff is listed this way.

I am sure that this is not the last reorganization. Maybe someone has a better idea!!

I bought ACDSee to organize my stuff. It is really nice. I think I might have been able to accomplish the same thing with Picasa, but I couldn't figure it out. ACDsee lets you keep everything in its original folders, but still tag things and search for them by tags. I have tags like Disney, Safari, Boy, Frames, Alphas, papers, tags, swirls, etc. There was a whole class on Jessica Sprague about organizing with ACDSee. I took it, but it really wasn't necessary. I open SBC+ and ACDSee when I'm working on a page. I search for what I want in ACDSee and drag it on to my layout in SBC+. It works for me. I'm sure everyone has a slightly different system.

I'll have to check into that program. I've got some birthday money to spend, so why not spend it on something to help further my digi-addition? Honestly, I had no idea that there was anything like that out there... thanks for the tip.
