Who here uses CM's SBC+ for digital scrapping?

This question is for all of you who post on ScrapMatters. I'm trying to upload a page, but no matter what I try I get an error message saying that my photo file is too large, that I am exceeding my filesize limit.

How do you save a page at the correct size? Right now I'm doing "save page as", screen size (72 dpi), good quality. Am I supposed to somehow use my smugmug account? But I don't see a link for that.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Jessica and Christy - I appreciate your responses. I hadn't thought about reducing the size of my picture. As I said, still LOTS to learn! My camera is 6 MP and I have changed to the highest quality. I am just worried about the years of pictures I have saved that I want to digiscrap. Thanks so much for all of your help. I'll let you know how it turns out when I play around some more.

Kelli

Well, I finally broke down and called CM digital support tonight. I save all of my pictures to WalMart and did not realize they are not good enough resolution to do anything with. Now I get the fun task of ordering CD's of the three years worth of pictures I have stored there so that I can start my scrapping!:scared1:

Maybe I can work on some basic layouts and just add the pictures when the CD's arrive. :yay:

And to think, I thought I was doing a good thing by clearing some space off my hard drive. Oh well. :rolleyes1

My 12 x 12 pages are always too big too when I save in 72 dpi... It's annoying. What I do is I save the page to full size (300 dpi), then I go to the page file, right click on it and say "Open with paint" Go to Image -- Resize/Reskew and I resize it to 17% horizontal and 17% vertical... that will make it the right size for ScrapMatters and also a good size for a quick upload to Photobucket or wherever.... it's an extra step, but it only takes a minute. Hope that helps!

You used to be able to use your Smugmug account, but you can't use those links on SM anymore. I resize mine in Picasa (free software from google -- great product). That is why I often don't get my layouts on to ScrapMatters. I get tired of taking those extra steps! I'm SO lazy!!

ETA, I just ordered 13 digital kits and power palettes with the credit I earned from a CM party I had last month. I am downloading and unlocking codes like a crazy woman!! I am going to have some FUN with these!!

I am very excited! My click it 1 SB+ is on it's way. I can't wait to get started. This will be my first attempt at digital scrapping, so I may asking many questions next week. Once it is here I think I will be ordering online the Disney vacation digital predesigned pages 12 x 12 and the 12 x 12 Primary Disney vacation power Palette kit. Also the Digital Disney Princess. Anything else I need? Am I going to order the correct things I need for my digital album. I am relying on you guys for help now. Thanks and excited, TinkerCarol

Wow, I just went back and read several pages of postings. You guys talk about shadowing, moving this to that, pictures not clear enough. Now I feel really out of my element! I have watched the first two CM learning movies with Dawn. But I don't remember all of this being covered. Now I know I am goijng to need help. I hope you can all be patient with me. I am a person who needs direct step by step directions. I hope I am up to the challenge! I used to sell CM years ago, and I got good at traditional scrapping. I hope this gets easy after a while.

You and me both! I have watched both webinars/tutorials on line as well, but they just cover basics. I really just open up test pages and play around without saving. That gives me a chance to learn and figure out how to do things. Everyone on the boards is so helpful and patient - I know...I have bugged them LOTS :rotfl:
Good luck and maybe we can muddle through it together. I know it is going to be a while before my LO's look as good as the ones I see on here though! :yay:

labdogs, have fun with all the new CM stuff! I think I purchased about the same amount of items! :woohoo: My birthday's coming up so I thought I deserved it. :lmao:

I really love the recipe book kit - I'm going to make one for my family for Christmas gifts this year using the recipes we ate growing up, especially at Christmastime. I'm scanning in and using as many hand-written recipes from my mom & grandmas that I have, then just typing in the others. Now I just gotta ask my dad to go through all the years of slides he has to find pics for me. It's been fun so far and I've only been working on it for 3 days!

Kellig & TinkerCarol - just think of getting used to SBC+ in small pieces at a time. When I first purchased it I was so overwhelmed and I had no one to train me, so it was trial & error for a long time. Then I discovered the digi-scrappers here on the dis, and this is what I started to do:
  • participating in challenges
  • looking at everyone's layouts and trying to duplicate them
  • reading this thread
  • asking lots of questions
  • and just having lots of fun.
Also, have you checked out the tutorials on the CM website? I'd start there. And then if there's more webinars on SBC+, sign up for those, too.

There's so much you can do with the program. After having it for months I'm still learning new things. So try not to get discouraged. Just start experimenting, have lots of fun doing it, and ask questions if you get stuck. I have learned so much already just from reading others questions and the subsequent answers.

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement QuiltyMom! I know I will get there...I just want it to be now :rotfl: Does that sound like a little kid whining or what!!

I have some files I can send to those who want some print out(able) instructions for SBC+ I have some tips, ticks, techniques etc. Just PM me with an email address.

I think how to use shadows was part of the first training Dawn did. I believe there are a total of 4 trainings. The last one was the longest of them at just over and hour.

Labdogs, I am with you on the posting thing. I am too lazy to make the extra step. Have fun playing with the new kits.

I like the Mickey & Friends add-on as well. Also make sure that you download all of the free 12x12 templates form the CM website, even if you think the designs aren't your taste. You can change everything on the templates, so they are nice to have, even if the style isn't yours. They are a great place to start a page, even if you only use the page layout!

I'm not sure if you are a CM purist or not, but if you want to find a lot of fun Disney stuff to use in your book, check out my blog (link in my siggy), for my suggestions of some great free and inexpensive Disney-ish kits out there!!

Thanks for the support, and I am glad to know I am not the only new-be to SBC+. I guess we will have fun and learning to do together. I can't wait. Right now mine is in Minnesota. It has started its journey, but not fast enough for me. I do have loads of free-bees I want, but am waiting until I have the CM program in my computer. I like the idea of just playing around and not saving at first. Glad to be on this sight and look forward to getting to know all of you better as time goes by. Can't wait to post my first challenge page! Nice to get advice on what I am learning as I go. I am here to stay. Hi everyone!!

TinkerCarol -

You don't need to have the program in order to get your non-CM freebies. You can download and unzip them now, then when you receive the program add them into your digi-stash. That way you'll have all of it done and you'll be able to play with everything faster!

Just an idea...

I was going to say the same thing! Great minds think alike!!

Hey ladies I have a question. How many of you have SBC+ on a laptop? I just purchased my first laptop (told DH that I needed it since I have returned to college!!!:lmao: ) and am wondering about putting SBC plus on it. Anyone have pros/cons on using laptop vs. desktop? TIA

Tiffany

Hi quiltymom! Where did you get the recipe book kit? Is it SBC+ or another site? I'd love to get it! Thanks!

It's a Creative Memories kit. I purchased both the album kit (which can be used with SBC) as well as the digital kit (which can only be used with SBC+) And even though it's a recipe book kit, the kit is wonderful for other things, too. I'm thinking of using it as a heritage album, as well. I love the layouts and the papers. I'll post a page from it over on the digital pages thread as soon as I get something done that I'm happy with.

I love being able to bring my laptop into the living room in the evenings while everyone is watching tv or playing the wii. We also brought ours on vacation and I scrapped our pictures from that day at night after the kids went to sleep. It was fun to have a finished book when we got home. (this was not a Disney trip, btw)

You will pick things up faster than you think. The program really is very user friendly. I'd encourage you to start posting your LOs as soon as you get going... even if you don't feel like they are as "great" as you'd like. Everyone on this board is so nice, and it really is encouraging when people are giving feedback and kind of cheering you on... it really helps motivate you to keep going and try new things. You're going to have a blast! :goodvibes

Thanks bsquare for the advice! Did you put the SBC on your laptop to begin with? I wonder if I can take it from my desktop to my laptop? Any guesses?
