Ugh, so my mom picked me up for lunch and I needed to make a WalMart run. I was putting a box of my SlimFast meal bars into the cart and she said, "Oh those are expensive! Should you be buying those? I mean, you do have car repairs to pay for and are they even working?" I said, "See Mom, this is why I will never get along with you." She didn't get what she did wrong. Um hello?... you just tried to control MY money AND called me fat in one sentence!


Car update: It needs a new transmission.
The mechanic is looking for a used one and can't give a price quote until he finds something. I HATE THIS!!!

OMH lyzziesmom!!! Holy smokes. I know far too well about transmissions I've had mine rebuilt twice! It cost 2k for mine ea. time! It's expensive b/c it's a Volvo...but hopefully yours won't be that bad! Maybe they can rebuild it at a decent price. I'd call a transmission shop to do it though If it's too high, you might think about getting a different "cheap" car Heck, I saw a decent Saturn the other day for 2k... didn't look bad for a commuter..but I think I'll probably buy Mikes Grand Am when mine is toast... probably won't be much longer
then to tell you they're too expensive, should you be buying it, b/c you'll owe her money..and are they working omg that's bad! sorry lyzziesmom

I'd call a transmission shop, not sure I'd go w/who he says just a thought! I've had problems there b/4... sending to buddies they know instead of who is best

Oh crap. The car's going to cost me over $1500 and it won't be ready until the end of next week. We do trust the mechanic, it's a guy that my parents have used for several years and he does his best to save money and not do unnecessary work. He says the car is "an accident waiting to happen."

I just don't know what to do. It'll take me a year to pay that off.

Is there a pattern book for the Princess one? That would be too cute!!! I imagine it would be a little more difficult to do than the Mickey ones. Sorry about your kids next door. It's ashame you can't even decorate your own yard without worrying about it.

Unfortunately, it does sound like it needs done . you have to have transportation, obviously..and you probably can't replace the car for that much...I know car repairs are the worst I think they had my car over a month last time! Hopefully they'll find a cheaper way!

That IS the cheaper way! He's using used parts... which is why I don't understand why it costs that much. But a new -- even just new-to-me -- car is not in my monthly budget at all, it's pretty tight as it is. And since the parts are used, I'm not even sure how long the fix is going to last. I don't want to have to go through this again in a year's time.

Sorry Nicole, Ashley, and whoever else was planning on it, but I won't be able to do the Vegas trip in the spring.

I feel like such a moron, I'm sitting here at work and I can't stop crying. I just recently got a good hold on my finances and have had no debt for quite a while, it seems like I just got everything together and now this -- but what else can I do? Sorry to unload on you guys, I'm just really crushed. I know $1500 might not be a lot of money to some people, but it's more than I ever have in the bank at one time. To put it in DIS terms, it's almost two WDW vacations.

Oh, and Lyzzie has a dental appointment at 4pm and my dad has to work late, so I'm stuck at work for an extra hour with no ride home until after Lyzzie's appointment (and no pay, since I won't be here working). Fun!

Hmmmm, I don't know where Mom gets her information, but remember how I mentioned she said she can't sign the car over to me without selling it? Complete and total BS!! I just looked up the laws, and it's very easy to transfer a vehicle's title to someone else, it can be sold for whatever price you agree on or even "gifted" to the new owner. She just lied about it because she doesn't WANT me to have my car!

I told her I'm going to put the cost of repairs on my credit card because I'd rather pay interest fees than have to owe her any money.

I'm also having her pick me up from work before Lyzzie's dental appointment so I don't have to be stuck here for an hour.

Gosh, I sound like a whiny teenager. Sorry 'bout that!!
