I just looked up that Top Thrill Dragster... it looks incredible! I'd ride that sucker in a heartbeat - now I really want to go there!!

I just looked on their website and there is no way in hell you would get me on that ride! Amber, I'd be right next to you SAFELY on the GROUND! :rotfl:

pozey, your report is great. Someday, we want to drive cross country and see the Grand Canyon (on our way to Disneyland ;) ). Your pictures are beautiful.

Linda, you are a brave woman. There is no way I would ride Top Thrill Dragster, ever. If Mike and I ever get out to Cedar Point (next year maybe) you will have to join us. You and Mike can ride together and I will sit safely on the ground. :)
next year would be awesome.. Mike and Kenny would gladly keep you company too!! Kenny might talk your leg off though:rolleyes1 just ask Ashley:laughing:

Okay, I need to see what this Top Thriller Dragster is all about!
it is :scared: very scary fast short coaster!!

:rotfl2: that was what I was thinking too...but they talked me into it...it was awesome!!
I wouldn't ride it but Steven would ride it, he's a total rollercoaster junkie. He wants to join one of those rollercoaster clubs.
OH...he'll love Cedar Point then!!! we're like a whole 52 miles from there or so...so I've been there more times than I can count.... you guys should all come out next year :cheer2: :yay:

Ok, I have a question for you guys...where in the world (wdw ;) ) should we eat on Christmas eve and Christmas day???:confused3 Any "must-do's" I've got to get some ideas together before everything is gone, if its not already ;)

We had Thanksgiving dinner at Cape May and it was really good. I believe someplaces have different menus for the holiday. Have you looked at AllEars?

I would LOVE to ride Top Fuel Dragster!!!!

That's another place the pozey clan want to visit someday - Cedar Point.

Count me in! Are there any rides for chickens like me?
:rotfl: of coarse! They have a few coasters Kenny loves too. Woodstock Express is like Goofys Barnstormer and Jr. Gemini is really calm...and lots of other more mellow rides. Mike rode a few with us. Do you like coasters at all? There are several that aren't near as extreme as Top Thrill and Millenium ;)

you guys would love it! one of our guys spends his whole vacation going around OH to all the parks... Cedar Point, Geauga Lake and Kings Island... they all have good rides, but CP is the best ;). Geauga Lake has several coasters that are like the Raptor...so those are a blast, where your feet dangle down:woohoo:

Day 4 – Tuesday, June 19th
Today, we are checking out of the Embassy Suites and driving the 3.5 hour drive to the other side of the Canyon. We are going to stay in a cabin just outside of the North Rim.

Since we really aren’t on any time schedule, we take our time waking up and go down to eat breakfast about 8:30. Breakfast is pretty busy this morning.

We pack the van and head out on our journey to the North Rim. Again, I pretty much blindly planned this trip not knowing what to expect. I did some research, but still didn’t know a whole lot.

The trip from Flagstaff to the North Rim is about a 3.5 hour drive. Not because it is that long of a drive miles-wise. It is more because of the twisty, turning roads. The scenery along the road is beautiful. The hills, valleys, red canyon walls……What it reminded me of was the scenery in the move “Cars”.

So, about half way into our drive, we come upon quite a site. It is called the “Navajo Bridge”. It was an unexpected and spectacular site. It was one of those things that you would only see if you were driving. It really is out in the middle of nowhere.

So, we walk around the bridge, taking pictures and enjoying the sites. Across the bridge, some Navajo people have tents set up selling their hand-made jewelry and stuff. Of course we buy some…..:rolleyes1

So, we continue our journey through the hills and forest – we are now in Kaibab National Forest – to our destination. We are staying 2 nights at Kaibab Lodge. They are rustic cabins built back in the ‘20s or ‘30s. No TV, no telephone.

Driving through the Kaibab Forest towards the cabin, we notice that there begins an area of the forest which appears to have been badly burned by a forest fire. Come to find out, about a year ago this area had a major forest fire. DW was getting kind of upset. She really didn’t want to look at burned trees our 2 days here. But several miles before arriving at our lodge, the burned area stopped. But for at least a 10 mile (yes 10 MILES) looked like this:

We arrive just about 12:30 pm and I check us in. There is a the main Lodge, and then some cabins spread throughout the property.

GC2200.jpg

We are staying in a 3 room cabin. In 1 room there is a double bed, in another room there is a double bed and a single bed, and the other room is a bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink. And the place is MILES from anything else. The nearest “town” is about 45 miles away. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is 20 miles away.

After checking in, the family says they are a little hungry. And we are barely in luck…..they stop serving lunch at 1:00 pm. We stay in the main lodge and order lunch. Burgers and fries for me and Chase, chicken tenders for Courtney, DW and Colton both have Chicken Quesadillas. It was VERY good food.

After lunch, we unloaded the luggage and stuff in the cabin and decide what to do next. We have no “concrete” plans, so we just decide to go to the North Rim and see what’s what.

GC2207.jpg

We drive up to the North Rim and this is where the Grand Canyon Lodge is located. Just like on the South Rim side, there is a Lodge that sits right on the Canyon’s edge. The North Rim side is much more “Wilderness-like” than the South Rim.

GC2217.jpg

We go into the Ranger Station and ask if there is a trail that would be safe enough for Courtney to hike. He points us in the direction and we head out. Well, the very beginning of the hike is somewhat scary. BIG drops. DW is really afraid to take Courtney. So, I tell her to take the boys and go on the hike. We are told it is 1.5 miles to a campground and then you turn around and come back. It is 3 miles round trip and the Ranger told us it would take maybe a couple of hours.

So, off they go, and me and Courts just explore the area around the Grand Canyon Lodge. We also sit down and I tell her that she cannot play around while we are walking the trails.

We decide to go on the trail after our talk. I figure we will go slow and probably meet up with the others as they are coming back. We take our time on the trail, and Courtney holds my hand most of the way. We take it slow and sit down and rest when we can.

GC2211.jpg

We go probably about half-way down the trail, and Courtney is pooped out.

GC2209.jpg

She wants to go back. So we take our sweet time going back. This trail isn’t overly steep, but it has sections that are. We arrive back at the Lodge and sit and wait for DW and the boys. They must have not been too far behind us as they arrive about 10 minutes later.

We go into the gift shop and look around. We get just a few little things. We spent WAY less on souvenirs here as we do when we go to Disney.

We decide to head back to the Kaibab Lodge where we are staying. It is just getting dark now, and everyone is just sitting out, enjoying the weather and looking for wildlife. We see a few deer a couple hundred yards away.

Nobody is very hungry, but we decide we want dessert. We go up to the main lodge and order dessert. DW, Courts, and Chase split a HUGE piece of chocolate cake and Colton and I split some peach cobbler. Good stuff.

We go back to the cabin and turn on Cars on the portable DVD player. We now have neighbors in the room next to ours. That is when we figure out that the walls between us are paper thin. We can pretty much hear their normal conversations.

After the movie ends, we turn in for the night.

Mike rode the sky ride  , the needle, the paddleboat, the train, boat ride, old cars, and bumper cars. The bumper cars surprised me! He makes a great babysitter at the parks:yay:

omg Pozey!!! those pix are spectacular!!! that bridge is awesome!!! I know what your dw means about the burned area... it was like that in parts of Yellowstone too. What an incredible trip!!!:cloud9:

Hi everyone!!!

Pozey, loving the trip report!!! All of your pics of the scenery are just gorgeous!! I've never even been anywhere like that, I am an East coast girl I guess!! I would love to see it one day...although, it seems like a lot of driving long distance, which I don't like!!

Linda, glad you had fun yesterday!! I don't really like coasters but Jeremiah LOVES them. I'm sure he would love it there!!!

Lin- Big Brother starts July 5. I am annoyed because I thought it started this Saturday :badpc: Who knows where I got that idea from?

Nicole, Kenny makes great company ;) He is a riot.

Lyzziesmom, Emma is just too funny!! I really did have a great time with her in February!! Sorry you are in scratchy clothes!!!

Donna, thanks for the breakfast! Mickey waffles, yum!!!

Happy Wednesday everybody!! And I'm guessing for most, next week is a short week with Wednesday being a day off! Anybody have plans for the 4th of July?? Jeremiah & I always want to do something, but never end up having any plans :rolleyes1

DznyFan - I think I found you on the AllEars newsletter! This sounds awfully familiar:

... from C____ W.: We witnessed the appearance of a mysterious black bus in our DVC home resort of Old Key West. It was driven by someone in a Disney Transportation uniform, and the marquee on the front of the bus read "Epcot." There was actually a Disney security guard stopped at the bus, speaking to the driver. The bus was entirely black, with a rather futuristic looking body, with some green and yellow striping on it and a large green graphic stating "GM Hybrid." We saw it again a couple days later in our resort, then one evening as we were leaving Epcot it turned out to be our bus! Turns out the bus is on loan for three weeks while Walt Disney World determines whether or not it wants to add the new hybrid buses to the fleet. It sports upholstered and reclining seats, an on-board computer, and is able to operate as a true hybrid, according to our driver -- converting from gas to electric. It was extremely quiet, and there were no diesel fumes as the bus pulled away from our stop after dropping us off. Nice bus!

So how's my detective work? Is that you?? Nice job!

Wow, Pozey - what a spectacular place! It must have been breathtaking in "real life".
Courtney has this look like... "aww, dad!... do I HAVE to???"

yeah, Linda, that's me.. just put me on the kiddy rides! :rotfl:

Ashley - how are you feeling?? We don't have any 4th plans - I have to work 2 days before and 2 after, so not going anywhere or doing anything. Supposed to go to the lake on Saturday for a friend's annual 4th of July festivities (it's a BIG deal to him), but I have a birthday party for another friend's daughter that I have to go to on Saturday, and after that DD works - won't make it down until LATE Saturday night if I go at all. Besides, it'll probably rain.
