April, that is so wonderful that you have family so close!!
It's good to know you and Steven won't be down there in South Carolina all by yourselves!!
I know. And really, what are the chances??? I know you all must think I'm nuts just finding this out but we just weren't close. Ya' know?

I'm just
<insert my mom's name here> daughter.

(I think I'm going to use this as my new big toothy grin until they get our old one back.) Anyway, I just think it's so neat. What a pleasant surprise.

April that is really exciting to have family so close to you!! Darin's best friend from college lived in Anderson and we went there a few times, it's really pretty. They have since moved down here and we haven't been back. How are the Clemson job prospects going for you two?
I just can't believe it!!
Well, I haven't heard anything about the one I applied for. It closed Dec. 19th but I figure I probably won't hear anything until after the holidays. Steven's job prospect originally closed on the 15th of Dec. but then they sent him an email stating that they had reopened the job until 1/07/07. My first thought was that they didn't feel they received qualified applicants but I'm hoping that's not the case but truly, Steven was very qualified for the position. I'm hoping they just extended it because of the holidays. Today, Steven applied for another position w/ the City of Clemson. That job closes on the 16th. Then the lady said they'd probably take a week after that to review the apps and then they'd start calling people.
I'm going to go to the hospital tomorrow and see what openings they have and I'm looking at the website of another hospital in the area. My background is in clerical/administrative assistance/reception/customer service. I really want to try and stay away from the customer service focused jobs.
......
sorry, sister called and I've been on the phone with her for the past hour
...........
I was telling her the news
Customer service as in, people call in complaining and I've got to try and calm them down and fix their problem. Or be the bearer of bad news when I
can't fix their problem.
I really, really want the job with Clemson or another state agency. I'm not asking for too much am I? <insert big toothy grin here>
I'd say the MOST important thing to me in a job (beside job satisfaction) is flexible time, time off. Now before I go on, let me say I am VERY American!! My blood bleeds red, white and blue
but I think America's policy on time off is sorely lacking. American employers are not required to give you any time off from work. Christmas? Nope. Thanksgiving? Uh-uh. Your two weeks (if your lucky) vacation a year? Not that either. This time off is not protected by any laws and you do not have the "right" to have these times off. Most employers do give you these days/times off but they don't have to.
Our British cousins are afforded with 4 to 6 weeks of vacation a year (how do you think they have the time to come to Disney

) and Germany gets at least that much, heck even China is given 15 mandatory days a year but American employers are not required to give us any. They do, and that's good but they aren't required too.
I would like to work for a state agency or federal position where you are at least given 3 weeks of vacation time and almost just as much sick time.
Time off
is important to me. That's why I frequent a website
http://www.timeday.org/ called Take Back Your Time.
And a really great article that really got me thinking in this direction can be found here:
http://bernie.house.gov/documents/articles/20030814173354.asp It's called
Ahh, Free at La -- Oops! Time's Up by Joe Robinson and he runs the work to live campaign
http://www.worktolive.info/
But, that's besides the point. For the time being though, I'm going to take what I can get as far as a job goes. And fight the good fight.
