Who here has ordered "The Grey Stuff" and what did it taste like?

You can't actually order the grey stuff. They only bring it to a table for special occasions. I've heard that it's like cookies and cream moose.

It's all in how you ask.....

The only way to get it is if you are celebrating a Birthday.

My son had it for his when we were there on 5/23....

His conclusion... It's Delicious

Who here has ordered this at "Be Our Guest?"

Seems just like a lot of hype to me - like an ordinary cookies and cream mousse. It's made with 4 ingredients - vanilla pudding mix, oreo cookies, milk and part of a box of chocolate pudding mix.

Actually, I have made it before I ever heard of 'grey stuff' for a recipe ice box pie I make.

I didn't have a formal celebration listed and still got it at our ADR... I'm not sure if everyone around us did or not.

Wow ... way to take the fun out of something. :rolleyes1

Didn't order it, weren't having a celebration, the server just brought it. Maybe because it was closing time and they were trying to get rid of it. It's a small dollop of whipped dessert. Tastes vaguely of chocolate. Apparently it is supposed to be cookies and cream/Oreo flavor. It didn't taste like much. It's prettily presented though, with sugar pearls and a plate stencil in cocoa powder. The hype is more about the presentation than the dessert itself.

I have seen reports from persons who asked for it and were told they had to be celebrating something.

They really had to offer it. Or their servers would go crazy answering everyone's questions about where was "The Gray Stuff".

The "hype" over it is because Disney went all the way and actually has "they grey stuff" and that it's something special.

It's delicious! It's a cookies and cream/oreo type flavored mousse

It's supposed to be for special occasions, but just because it's listed on your ADR doesn't mean you'll get it. I've made sure to ask both times I've dined there, and it has been for someone's birthday! Just make sure to ask, and ask politely, and you should be able to get it! :thumbsup2

Depends on your server I guess. When we were there, I simply asked what the grey stuff was, and our server said she'd bring us some to try. She said "It's supposed to be for celebrations, and you're celebrating something, right?" :) She was wonderful! There were 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children) and she brought us 2. My husband really thought I was "in the know" for asking about something that wasn't on the menu. It's a really small portion, but it was a great little treat.

Sorry to be so truthful, but 'everything' is not magical, even at Magic Kingdom! I enjoy most things as much as anyone, but this, to me, is really dredging the bottom to make such a big deal out of a very common mousse recipe. This is 'not' a prized 'French' treat by no means. :confused3

:thumbsup2 My feelings exactly!

It doesn't have to be a prized French treat to be magical. It's the idea that you are living out the song. Like I'm a huge HP nerd and found every incarnation of Butterbeer to be too strong. Is that going to stop me from having it at WWoHP? Of course not. This is why people (including myself) pay a premium to eat in the Castle at CRT or wait an hour for "quick service" lunch at BOG. It's not about the quality of the meal, but the overall experience.

That's kind of the case with going to WDW at all. You are in the movies, in the future, in a land of imagination and adventure far away from the real world. Yeah, other amusement parks cost way less because they offer the bare minimum with no frills. Disney takes a basic coaster and turns it into a must-do mountain experience. You gotta look at the big picture.

It's Delicious
I admit, I didn't believe you at first...but then some dishes verified it for me.
:lmao::thumbsup2:dance3:

I agree! So do we! All (most) of us adults love MK and become little children there, I'm no exception. BOG is one of our favorite restaurants. The ambiance is unbelievable ::yes::

I was merely talking about the special 'grey stuff' and saying, to us, it is nothing more than what I have made for years - end of story. This is my opinion and does not have to be the opinion of others. I am 'hopefully' posting on an 'adult' board, where we all are free to express our opinions, and not to little children (which I wouldn't do).

Slightly off topic (but a type) is when, on threads that discuss rides like the little mermaid at FLE, people discuss all they 'see' as unmagical, such as being able to see the 'workings' of the animatronics, etc. I hadn't noticed, but it was no big deal to me, and I enjoy the ride as much as ever.

I stated a fact about the grey stuff (which is true - not conjecture). I don't particular want any, would not turn it down, but has nothing to do with the enjoyment/excitement of eating at BOG, which we have done/will do on every trip we take there. :goodvibes

Actually, if you'll read my first post as well as the one you quoted when I answered another poster, it might clarify a little - wasn't looking to start a fuss, just an opinion.

We ate there, as a group of about 6, back in Dec. The expansion had just 'officially' opened a few days before we ate there. When we finished eating our meal, we asked about the 'grey stuff' and were told that it was brought out for special celebrations. Well, we said, we are celebrating getting to spend time with old friends and a new addition to a family. The server kind of shrugged and said he would 'see what he could do'...he brought out a small sample, very grudgingly!!
What did it taste like? Oreo cookie filling..the middle. No big deal.

It was never offered when my dd and I ate there earlier this month. Too bad it isn't more common since it is mentioned in the song that everyone knows so well.
