I had the pitocin with my 2nd one. My water had broken but labor was not progressing. I was given the option and I thought "Sure, why not?" Big mistake! They gave me the pit at 1:45pm and my DD was born at 2:29pm!! Whoa baby--a little too fast if you know what I mean.

Good luck and God Bless.

I had petocin with my first and third.... with my first they gave me 2 doses of petocin cause she just wasn't comming... and with my last I think I had 3..... my water broke at I think 34 weeks and then nothing.....that was saturday ..... tuesday I finally had him....I was being moved from one bed to another and I was pushing.. I told the nurses and one said nooo you would be in more pain.. the doc said I was going to have him that night.... I told hubby I was having him now... (like 10 min later) hubby saw him crown.. yelled for the nurses got the doc from the parking garage and boom he walked him and grabbed my son lol... then asked if he could take off his coat

I was induced with my first as he was a week overdue & I wasn't exaclty young, but when the doc broke my water, he discovered that DS was actually in the breech position, so rather than going in for a natural birth as planned, I ended up having an emergency Casearian due to the breech position.

I was induced with DD#1. Labor lasted 16 hours and was hard. I felt like I never got a break between contractions. It took from 8AM to 5PM for me to dialate to 4cm when I could have my epidural. It was fine after that.

DD#2 was not induced. I was in labor for 2 1/2 hours. It was intense but short. I preferred the shorter labor.

I was over a week late, developed pre-clampsia and had to be induced. Received the pitocin at 7:05 a.m. and was in labor with contractions every 2 mintues or less by 7:45 a.m. Stayed that way until 9:35 p.m. when they decided to give me a c-section because the labor hadn't progressed enough to open my pelvic canal...this was a known possiblity given a pelvic injury I had suffered years before. The labor was hard and there was little recovery time between contractions...it was pretty exhausting to be that way for so many hours.

Would rather have had the c-section at 7:05 a.m. :)

I was induced with my ds (8 years and 3 days ago:teeth: ). It wasn't too bad. The labor seemed to take forever compared to the labor I had with my dd (which was a non-induced labor). It took longer for me to dilate with my induced labor. I hurt more with my non-induced labor, even with the epidural.

Good luck with your bundle of joy, ez.:)

I was induced. It's the only way to go IMO! :teeth: The dr. gave me the pitocin at 8:30 a.m. DD was born at 11:27 a.m. They gave me an epidural, but she was born so fast that it didn't take effect until afterwards. ;) Labor was a piece of cake.

I went into labor on my own (4 days late) and dilated the full 10 centimeters, but still she didn't want to come out so they gave me pitocin to speed things up. After pushing for 2 hours, she still wasn't coming down so they decided to do a c. (I also developed pre-eclampsia and they didn't want me to push anymore b/c of my blood pressure).

For those of you who watch Friends and remember when Phoebe gave birth to her triplets - while she was having her babies, I was in the hospital having mine...WHILE watching her have hers lol.

It is a known fact that after the water has broken, a baby SHOULD be delivered within 24 hours. Upon waking up at around 6am that Thursday morning in October (one week before due date), it occured to me that I had sprung a leak sometime during the night. I was just separated from my husband at the time and was living at home, so I quietly woke up my mom to tell her that I "thought" my water broke. After realizing (moments later) what I had said she jumped out of bed and began to call everyone she ever met to let them know we were going to the hospital. In the meantime I showered and got ready to go. About an hour or so later I was able to pry the phone from her hand and instruct her to move it along a little faster. We finally arrived at the hospital (still leaking!) and got checked in. After a couple hours of no contractions they decided to go ahead and induce. Once I had experienced a contraction for the first time, I was not to thrilled about the thought of having any more, but I knew that's how the process worked! After pushing and pushing later on into the wee hours of the morning it was apparent that my son's big head was just not budging. They wheeled me into the operating room and gave me a spinal block. The epidural they had given me earlier had come out of my back and all feeling was back. I did not like the spinal block at all though. The only part of my body I could move was my head and I felt like I wasn't even breathing. I thought I was dying and started freaking out, the doctor assured me that I was breathing though and everything would be fine. Shortly after 2am I remember the nurse showing me this screaming little bundle of joy and then I blacked out. It's been almost 6 years since that day..and he's still a screaming little bundle of joy lol.

Me. And good Lord, I'd never do it again. The feeling of an artifically contracting uterus is just too painful. :faint: And I did it with NO medication whatsoever.

Looks like I might be alone in saying PItocin did not work at all for me. I went to the hospital on Thursday night after dinner. They gave me one of those gel things to ripen the cervix then started the pitocin drip. Next night another gel cap and continued upping the pitocin. After 2 caps and 2 days of pitocin I dialted to maybe 3cm. The doctor offered me a c-section or to go home and wait a couple days before we tried again.
I opted to go home, this was on Saturday. On Tuesday I went back to the doctors office, they put the monitors on me and I was having small contractions every 2 minutes (never felt them). He sent me home and told me to check in the hospital in the morning if things dont progress over night. I checked in the next morning, still having tiny contractions every 2 minutes. They started the pitocin again. Cervadil cap that night, more pitocin the next day. He finally broke my water that afternoon but nothing was progressing. I was dialated to about 4 1/2 by this poitn , so they gave me the epidural. By about 9 that night Sam's heart beat was dropping during contractions so they had to do a c-section.
It was probably a good thing he was a c-section, he was 2 feet tall and weighed 9 1/2 pounds.

2 weeks ago I was induced with my ds. Dr. stripped my membranes, sent me to the hospital. got gelled and then the following morning they started pitocin at 6am. Broke my water at 8. 12 I was at a 5, 80% effaced, he was not descending at all. At 5pm, I was still the same, but had 5 hours of sheer pain behind me. They decided then to do a c-section b/c he was not coming down. 604pm, my 8lb 5oz, 3 week early miracle was here :) I will definitely opt for the c-section with our next child. BTW, I was induced so early b/c of gestational diabetes and PIH...

My first was totally natural - out of hospital birth with a midwife. Painful, but got by using the hot tub (what a life saver!) My second I was induced, it was a high risk pregnancy anyways (blood clotting disorder, I was on heparin and aspirin through the pregnancy) I was induced at 39 weeks, they broke my water, not much happened. They started pitocin at 3:30pm and she was born at 10:45pm. She was posterior so I was in a lot of pain and opted for the epidural at 10pm, they got it in, the doc manually flipped her and said try pushing, she was out less than 5 minutes later :teeth: none of them were ready for it! I was induced this time too, my bp jumped (it hit 193/116) and the midwives transfered me to the hospital. This time it was horrible. The contractions were every 90 seconds, I had very little time to breathe - they started me on mag sulfate and I lost it. So I opted for the epidural again. This one was awful! I was numb at first but after an hour I could every single contractions but I couldn't move my legs. They had to turn off the pitocin because her heart rate was dropping. I went from 5cm to complete in 10 minutes. The pain was like nothing I'd ever felt! By some miracle I didn't end up with a c-section, I'm not sure how. Because of the strength of the contractions her heart rate dropped to the 50's and stayed there. I had her out in 3 pushes - she's fine :) I ended up hemorraging and don't remember about 20 minutes after she was born. They started pitocin around 7pm and she was born at 3:46am.

If I could do it over I wouldn't do the induction, at least not the way they did it. Of course I'll never go to a teaching hospital again!

I had 1 c-section and two inductions, both on pit. Had back labor with both boys and did it without pain meds. The 1st one didn't tolerate the epidural and the 2nd didn't work. The pit was started about 10 AM with both of them, had one at 7:26 the 2nd at 5:58. I don't know what labor feels like without pit. Yhe second time was easier because I knew what to expect

It is a known fact that after the water has broken, a baby SHOULD be delivered within 24 hours.

I thought I was going to have him that night! The docs said the more he stays in the better because he was so early. I never had any contractions that night at all....was very strange....

I was induced for 2nd child (feared shoulder dystocia) and went great. Broke my water at 7am, started pitocin around noon, gave birth 2:31pm. (Another woman was induced same time as I was and nurses were having a "race" to see who would give birth first. Other couple was upset because they were only at a few cm when I gave birth.)

I was just induced on Saturday! It was one day before my due date. The OB had wanted to induce me early (if I was inducible) because my first baby was so big. I wasn't inducible until just last week; 3cm ,70% effaced at appt on Tuesday

I went in 6:30am on Saturday and the hospital doc said I was 1 cm! What? How did I shrink? So, who knows who was right. They started pitocin around 7:30am. The contx felt just like BH for awhile, they didn't hurt, just a tightening feeling. My OB came in and broke my water, maybe around 10am. After that I started feeling the contx and they got bad pretty fast and were very close together, 3-5 min.

The nurse checked me around noon and I was at 4cm. Since I was so uncomfortable I asked for the epidural. I got that in by about 12:30pm. After that, I sort of napped and just layed on the bed and relaxed; I felt *really* good. At 2pm, the nurse checked again and I was completely dilated and the baby's head was really low. So, she had me push to see how I was doing. I guess I did a good job because she made me wait for the OB to get there. I think I pushed through about 4-5 contx before my baby was born.

I was completely shocked at how fast the whole thing went. I was really scared because my first labor was pretty easy, but my delivery was very difficult. Two hours of pushing before he was vacuumed out. This was definitely a MUCH better experience than last time. I don't know if I should credit the induction or the fact that it was my second baby. But, I had a very good experience with my induction.

I have 3 children, (8,5,4). I was induced with all 3!! With the first, I had Prosten gel the first day, nothing...I had Pitocin on day 2....nothing. On day 3 we tried Prosten again....nothing. Day4 was Pitocin again and FINALLY I went into labor.

Second pregnancy I went pre-eclamptic. I was give Pitocin without effect. On the second day, they ******lly inserted Cytotec. Cytotec is an antiulcer drug that was found to cause spontaneous abortion in its oral route. When ******lly inserted, it cause the dilataion to progress rapidly. I went into intense labor and quickly gave birth.

On child 3 I refused the Prosten and the Pitocin and requested Cytotec. It was inserted and I had a beautiful baby in less than 2 hours.

I am a RN and I have heard no negatives to Cytotec usage for normal ******l births. You can have complications from an enema......don't be afraid because of what someone else had a bad experience from......we are all unique!!

:jumping1:

with DS #1, I was 14 days past my due date and I was given the prostaglandin gel to my cervix to soften it for the next day's planned Pitocin induction. The gel itself sent me into labor. With DS #3, I was brought into the hospital 2 days before my due date because they didn't want the baby to be much bigger. (DS #2 had gotten his shoulders stuck in delivery, but all ended up well.) I was put on a Pit drip with #3 and not much happened. I got an epidural before I even had one labor pain. They cranked up the Pit and had a baby PAIN FREE! I highly recommend it. :)

Good luck, you'll be fine!

I had #4 induced. I got to the hospital at 1:30p dilated to 3cm, not in labor. They ruptured my membranes and started pitocin around 2:45. At 4p I was at 4cm and very uncomfortable. They gave me an epidural at 7:00p and I was still at 4cm. At around 8:00p I thought I felt some pressure and told the nurse I thought the baby was coming. She examined me, and sure enough I was complete and ready to push! Fifteen minutes after starting to push, I delivered at 8:30p....just 7 hrs from my admission time.

I just got home from a Boston hospital where I am doing my clinical rotation for maternity. My patient was being induced. Her process has been going on since yesterday alternating cytotec and pitocin. At 4:30p they inserted another 1/4 of a cytotec pill (dilated 2cm), checked her again at 8:00p and she was 3cm. They broke her water and started pitocin at 8:30p. She had her epidural at 10:00p and felt so much better!! I had to leave the floor at 11p so I don't know how she progresses. Once they finally broke her water, her labor picked up and her contractions became more regular. It was her 1st pregnancy. Inductions seem to take less time if it's not your 1st baby.

Good luck to you! Wishing you a wonderful birth experience!!!
