I really dislike the dryers in the stacking laundry units in the BWV rooms. They seem to take forever to dry. Are the dryers down on first floor any bigger/better/faster?

I am not sure if they are bigger, but just wanted to say I hate the stackable dryers at the BWV too.

I'm not a fan of the stackable units at BWV (only stayed there once and in a studio), BCV, SSR, VWL. I love the larger side by sides at OKW.

The dryers in the shared laundry room may be faster because they are larger, commercial dryers, but there is a lot of competition for them since I think they only have four (and it seems like at least one is always broken).

There are now only two LG dryers in the community laundry room at BWV. They do have a large capacity, though.

IIRC, there are more than two dryers in the BWV laundry room (2 rows of 4 dryers?). If I'm in a 1-br, though, I'd use the in-room one, only for the convenience, but I wouldn't reserve a 1-br JUST for the W/D,:sad2:

I would!

And there were only 2 dryers (the new ones) in the laundry room when we were at BWV in September. Have they added more? I did laundry at 6 am to avoid a crowd and several people came in while I was there. They need more machines. I'd much rather do laundry (and towels) in the villa.

Sadly, I would too. And have. I do love the idea of the extra room in the 1 bedrooms but it's the convenience of the w/d that keeps me coming back.

I will agree that the stackable ones are not that great and I do find that it takes forever to dry. We had the large sidebyside ones at the OKW once and although they were larger, I didn't find them any more efficient that the stackable ones. It literally takes me about 1 hour to dry a regular size load in both the stackable and the side by side ones. That's just insane.

However, I did hear that some of the laundry rooms have hi efficiency washers which really would cut down on the laundry time. We have HE at home it takes longer to wash than to dry. The clothes comes out of the washing machine almost dry. I think if Disney can put this in all the units it would save on energy.

The laundry room dryers take about an hour. I've used both the BWV villa and laundry room and didn't mind the laundry room because I find it so frustrating to use the ones in the room. THey just take forever!

The 2 LG dryers have replaced the older dryers in the BWV guest laundry. As DisFlan and I posted they have been there at least from September. When I was doing laundry a maintenance worker came in and sang the praises of the LG appliances. He said they required much less maintenance than the old ones, and also that Disney got a good deal on them, since they bought in quantity.

Holy cow! You need a degree from MIT to figure out the controls! There are also three high tech washers.

I have stayed at BCV and used their W/D. I agree, the ones in the villas are much too small and sloooooooowwww.
It's much quicker to be able to do a couple of loads at a time in the community laundry room then to try to do it in the villa.
IMHO the W/D in the villa is fine for a small light load or maybe for towels, but not for any serious laundry.

For using the W/D in the common areas? We haven't yet stayed at a DVC property but I have used W/D in many resorts and on Magic and Wonder. They all used up my quarters....:laundy:

no charge or fee

they are free - but the laundry detergent and fabric softernor - are NOT.

so bring your own - or be prepared to pay.

for BWV - lst floor - near the elevators & gym

for VWL - lst floor - behind the elevators

for OKW and SSR - near the quiet pool

for AKV - 5th floor - near the standard view (pool ) near studio 5408

bcv - 4th floor

I hope the washers at BWV work as well with powdered detergent as they do with liquid, because I plan to bring pre-measured powder detergent. I don't know if the TSA agents at the airport would stop me from bringing in the little laundry drops (liquid in little "plastic" packets) or not.

forgot to say with AKV (so far the only one) you need your resort ID (key) to get in the room.

really expecting them to do it to the other resorts as well - so people say using WL can't come to VWL and wash for free.

but so far this is only at AKV.

I seem to recall needing my room key to open the door to laundry room at BCV. (Maybe I just think I used my key?)
