Who has the largest/best suite?

Of the "good neighbor" hotels around Disneyland, which has the largest suites or perhaps your opinion of the best ones? There are several "suite" type hotels that I saw but pictures can be deceiving. We don't need more than a 1-br so that the little one can go to bed early and we can watch TV, etc. Kitchen not necessary but a decent fridge and microwave would be nice. Looking to stay about 5 or 6 nights, coming from east coast. It's me, hubby, child. Probably not renting a car.

Thanks for any input; haven't been out to disneyland yet but looking to go in the spring to visit family and bring my then-4-yr-old.

We have stayed there too, loved the rooms. Hot breakfasts were pretty good. Last time we were there they had some evening socials as well, with hot dogs and such.

Hojo's Anaheim on Harbor Blvd. has a fantastic large kids suite that is 538 square feet, has 2 bathrooms, flat TV in both bedrooms, has an in-room safe, microwave, small fridge, easy walk to and from parks (8 min., compared to 15 min. for Residence Inn Maingate I THINK? Someone please correct me if I am wrong! :) ) With a 4 year old chances are good you will want to come back to the hotel room mid day to rest/play in the pool (garden pool has a nice pool and the kids castaway cove splash area has a hot tub for the adults.) It's far easier to walk back and forth twice to Disneyland with an 8 min. walk compared to 15. The hotel is close to many great food places - Mimi's Cafe, Pizza Hut, Quiznos, McDonalds, Millie's Cafe, Denny's, Tony Roma's, Ihop (expensive and dirty last time we went a couple of years ago, even though kids eat free promo was on), Captain Kidd's DO NOT go there if you want to listen to DIS'ers on these boards, generally it is not a restaurant you want to take your family to. You can also order pizza in, for delivery, have take out from Mimi's, etc. Von's can delivery groceries to the hotel for free using code EASY7 if your order is over $50 which is so easy to do when buying food a family of 4 for a few days. The thing I like most about Hojo's is that it is very clean and tidy. We visit there annually, for around a week, and it has always been so clean. There are coin laundry machines on premises, Pirate's Cove splash area for your child would be a lot of fun. You can receive 15% off your stay by quoting the DISboards special rate. On-line, the code to use is LNDB to have the 15% discount show up. It is less expensive than Residence Inn Maingate, too. They have a game room for the kids with video games, and a really nice convenience store very fully stocked with milk, ice cream, beer, wine, candy, muffins, breakfast cereals, extra coffee for the Keurig coffee machine, souvenirs, and anything you can think of. :yay: Oh! The beds! Superior quality and comfort. Same as the pillows. Linens super clean! There is a KING bed in the adult's room, and a bunk bed and sofa bed in the kids suite.

Wow, great stuff here, thanks. I'll check both of those out. I looked at Maingate briefly and saw they have a loft suite with a good AAA price.

The loft suite is about 750sf. They have a free hot breakfast each morning, including eggs, a meat (bacon, sausage, ham, it rotates each day) waffles, frencch toast or pancakes, potatoes, fruits, yogurts, toasts and bagels, OJ, apple juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, etc...

The pool is open 24/7. It has a children's play area.

Well I must've been looking at a different Residence Inn, because I looked them up again and now I don't see the loft suite, but I do see a "penthouse exception suite", which is more like a 2-br, one up and one down. Not sure if they updated the site or if I'm looking at the wrong page.

HoJo's pool looks great, as do those 700 sf queen and king suites. The 1-br queen suite has 2 bathrooms, nice. But for some reason, they don't show up in the bookings availability no matter what month I input. Only the kids' suite shows up. Hmmm.

That is the type we have stayed in before and loved it, 800-900sq ft I would guess.

If you don't need to be walking distance consider the Homewood Suites Garden Grove. We just got back and loved it! We had a two room suite with a small kitchen and living room then a seperate bedroom and bathroom. I used the living room most days to watch TV while my DH was napping.

It is a really easy walk to the Target across the street and there are several nice restaurants in the parking lot. They will also shop for you and deliver items to your room. (They will even have your room stocked in advance of your arrival if you ask) There was a daily hot breakfast included and dinner 4 nights a week. We just loved it!

We also had a great experience with their shuttle. After getting there I am so glad we didn't choose a "walking distance" hotel. Especially at the end of the day just walking to the shuttle stop seemed far too long!! :lmao:

Hope you have a great trip!!

Thanks, Ducky. I hadn't thought about the whole "walking blocks and blocks back to the hotel" thing. I assumed we'd use the busses or maybe rent a car. Walking distance would be nice, especially to downtown disney for night time. But it might just be too much walking.

We stayed in Hojo's King Suite in May and it was great. If you want to book a suite at Hojo's, I suggest calling the hotel directly. Not the Howard Johnson reservation line, but the Hojo Anaheim directly and asking for in-house booking. Then ask what days the King Suite (or whatever room you want) is available. That is how we booked it. We first booked the room, then our airfare because we really wanted to stay in the King Suite. There is only 1 King Suite and 1 Queen Suite at the hotel.

Good luck!

Aah, SFMommy, I see now. Only 1 suite means it probably won't show up. I ran into this when I was looking at 1-br suites up at a ski resort. The larger ones are more common so they had only one 1-br and it didn't show up in the bookings. It's also possible that if there is only one, it is booked and therefore isn't showing up. THanks.

Yes, you are right, those 2 suites don't show up on the on-line reservation system, you do need to phone in-house reservations by phoning 714-776-6120 (and ask for in-house reservations) if you want to make a reservation. Here is a link to the room layouts. http://www.hojoanaheim.com/wp-content/themes/hojo/images/room_layouts.pdf

Some detailed photos of the suites are on Hojo Anaheim's website here: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/what-you-get/rooms Each room type you click on has several pics. of the rooms.

And don't forget to 'take a tour' and see Hojo's webcam, live. I love that camera!! :worship::yay: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/take-a-tour/webcam

We just returned from the Homewood Suites today and also had a great experience there. The staff was especially nice, always coffee in the lobby, the little shop was always opened (helpful when we needed to buy mac & cheese for the starving kids last night after the halloween party ;). The breakfast was fine, the beds were comfy and the room was nice and clean.

Another thing about their shuttle - it isn't an ART Shuttle - they contract with another company. Sometimes it shared with the Sheraton or Crowne Plaza, sometimes not. But there always enough room on the shuttle. I saw some of the ART shuttles that were completely overflowing.

Overall, I was very happy with our stay and would stay there again.

Not really a suite, but if don't need the seperate rooms and just need the 3 Queen-size beds, the mini-suite option at the Best Western Park Place Inn is the closest walking distance to the front gates.

We stayed there last year and will again this weekend. Nothing special about the room ... except location, location, location. It's at the crosswalk across Harbor Blvd, which really helps if you are going back and forth to the room a lot with little ones.

It's one long room with 2 Queen beds plus a Queen sofa bed.

So we are staying at the Park Place in December. How do you know what type of room you are getting? We really need the mini-suite type room since we have 3 adults and 2 kids, but can't really afford any other charges. Also we have the entertainment book and it states that there is a 20% discount off of the best available price or 10% off whichever is greater. I booked through WDTC and have no clue how to figure out if I got the discount or how to go about getting it. Any help is appreciated.
