We are DVC members and when we go to Disney we always like to start our trip with a few nights at a regular resort with a concierge room. For some reason we have doen the contemporary on our last 3 trips. Help, where do you suggest?

I am leaning toward GF but DH is open.

I think it's a really tough call. I have only stayed at the Poly concierge, but I have been trying to weigh the advantages of each for future trips. This December I'll be trying the AKL and BC concierges. I would suggest deciding which concierge features are the most important to you (like food offerings, friendly staff, location, etc.) and choosing the concierge with those strengths. The Poly concierge had a very friendly staff and superb food offerings. The food was very tasty, and not gourmet. I personally don't care for gourmet foods (I prefer tasty, but more "normal" foods), so the Poly concierge was great. The concierge lounge also had a great view of Cinderella's castle. In my opinion, I would only do GF main building concierge since the lodge concierge isn't open for evening desserts (I think it closes late afternoon). I do think the foods there are a little bit more gourmet. The Royal Palm Club lounge is in the main building and would be nice since you could hear the orchestra playing in the evenings right from the lounge. The AKL concierge offers the opportunity to do the Sunrise Safari on certain days of the week, which is really neat. The AKL offers only bus service though, so you don't have the monorail or a short walk to Epcot as perks. I hope this helps! :)

Polynesian wins all four of our family votes. BC & BWI were nice (and there wasn't anything wrong with the service at either), but we prefer the location, view, and building at Polynesian.

Yes, the Polynesian is older and it has the "earthy" smell of warm, moist ground, the pool is smaller than BC and BWI, you have to share a bus with WL & GF (for MGM/AK/DD), etc., etc. All of that aside, we like it better.

The food is great--warm food is warm, cold food is cold, it's turned over and not left sitting (e.g., cold quiche at BC). Water, soda, juice, coffee is available all day and into the evening AND the lounge area doesn't close. The lounge staff couldn't be more accommodating. Ditto the concierge staff downstairs.

I like the separate buildings at Polynesian rather than the endless maze of hallways at BWI and BC/YC. Then there's the ambiance. . .

We've stayed at GF, BWI, BC, POR, CBR, and off-site all suites--our preference is still Polynesian. When we first booked a stay there (family's choice not mine--I wanted GF), I really didn't think I'd like it at all--go figure. . .

In May my family and are are doing 4 days BC Con and 5 days Poly Con (all on points):earseek:

So if ya can wait a bit I will have a report on two locations for you :D

I've stayed concierge at GF, AKL and BWI. I'd NEVER stay at the GF concierge again, although I'd go back to a regular room.

The BWI was gracious and wonderful. It seemed a little more geared towards adults, although children were quite welcomed.

The AKL was family oriented, and had a superb lounge. BWI has a better location, AKL has "that theming". Tough call, I guess it would depend on my mood :)

Stayed at Poly, YC, SWAN, and BWI concierge. Will be staying at the AKL,BC and Contemporary later this year. So far, Poly wins out by far. BWI come in second. SWAN was nothing special. YC was nice but had no tables to sit at.

You know, it's funny how people can see things so differently. I've stayed at the Contemporary, Yacht Club, and Polynesian concierges. I liked the YC the best and the Poly the least. The YC and Cont. had much more variety as far as food and drinks, and the CM's were much more gracious at both YC and Cont. than at the Poly. I would never pay to go to the Poly again. i know I may incurr the wrath of all the Poly lovers, but I didn't like it at all; nor did my sister and her family.

Wilmabud,

You are absolutely right!! We all see things so differently. We felt the same way about the Poly and would never go back there. I know others on this site (many of them) love the Poly. God did a good job when he created us didn't he!!! My vote is for BWI - we love it there!!

I've stayed at the Polynesian Concierge and the Contemporary Tower Club (12th floor). Both were nice. The Contemporary was just a limited concierge service, but the concierge CM's were better than the Polynesian's (who really stunk). The Contemporary only had one CM working a desk, but the Polynesian has 3 CM's (plus a bunch of other ones working the lounge - the Contemporary's desk/lounge area is all together).

The Grand Floridian's Concierge Levels seem to have people that either love them or hate them. Some people have great experiences, some people have horrible experiences (for varying reasons). The Grand Floridian also has the most expensive and "grandest" of all concierge levels, so the price tag doesn't always provide what people think it should for the price. I am anxious to try it someday, most likely it will be for a special occasion. :)

Is the 14th floor of the Contemporary the full service Concierge? Or is there one lounge for both the12th and 14th floor?

I guess some of the reasons I like the Poly, along with the view, is the lounge itself. I think its the biggest (there is a third floor balconey where additional seating is available). Also, the little things. There are always M&Ms, and gummy worms for the kids. During breakfast, there are four toasters available so no waiting. There are always bottles of soda or water out so you don't have to ask a CM. In the evening, when the fancy desserts are available, the chef would come out and show the adults how to make them, and show the kids how to make various shapes with cookies, fruit etc. Now this was in 1995 and 2000. I don't know if it has changed. But it was a big improvement over the 1989 trip, Then the concierge lounge was in the main building and was a little inconvenient.

as betterlatethan never stated, about the gummy worms and m&m's... that was one thing that I didnt like about Poly concierge...that's ALL they have out all afternoon! and the cookies.
that said...

I have stayed at YC concierge (twice), poly concierge (twice), and RPC at the GF (only one night)
my favorite by far is the YC concierge!!!! the staff is incredible! the most friendly cm's I have ever encountered!!! and the lounge is great! the food offerings are very varied, and very very good! and they have a defiante wider choice of foods out, plus they have more snacks out all afternoon, (not just candy and cookies!)
the lounge itself is quaint, they do have some table set up, we never had a problem sitting down, even during breakfast, and we were there in July, and thanksgiving week! I find it to be more intimate and luxurious thatn the Poly lounge!
the only thing the poly lounge has better is the view! but, you dont need to stay concierge to see the castle.

the GF RPC, well, I only stayed there for one night, so I cant comment too much, although it did seem nice, if you know what to expect! if you like the casual poly atmosphere, then forget it! the cm's at RPC are more serious, helpful though... maybe too helpful, they called our room like 6 times over the 24 hrs we were there, it was a little much, but I'd rather that then no willinness to help at all (like at the Poly concierge :( )
the lounge is absolutely gorgeous! the food is a quite upscale, but see, I like that! one day, I'll stay for a longer period of time at RPC, I think I'd love it if I were in the mood for a more formal stay!
that's why I love the YC concierge too! cause it's more formal, yet extremely comfortable!!! you can feel pampered to the hilt, yet also feel very welcomed!!! :)

Laura :)

17 days til WDW!!! yipeeeeeeeeeeeee :) :) :) :D :D :D :) :) :)
