Who has stayed in an AKL pool view room?

I just read the post about the poor pool view room at AKL. Since my family and I are staying at AKL primarily to enjoy the lodge, we'd love other's input into good/bad rooms or areas. We realize we can't get specific room requests met, but if we're armed with some info, it might help.

Thanks in advance

reddog:

we stayed at AKL in June 2002 and were upgraded from the standard view to a pool view free of charge without asking upon check in....

We stayed in room #1456 which was on the same level as the pool, but, actually down two floors from the lobby...we loved the location of this room(probably the best we've ever had at any resort)....we were right across the hall from Simba's play room, the laundry facilties and the elevators(never noticed any noise from any of these BTW)...we were the first room you come to as you enter the doors from the pool area....closest room in the entire resort from: the game room, the mara(food court), and the swimming hole!!! literally under 30 seconds from room to any of these locations....Jiko and Boma were both less than 1 minute walk from room to room....also, the mara was extremely convenient for filling the refillable resort mugs(coffee & soda).

This location worked perfectly for our family as we still spend most of our time in the parks and the majority of our resort time at the pool area....even though we did not have a savannah view, it was literally less than a 30 second walk from our room to one of the resort savannah overlook areas(there were several viewing areas throughout the resort where you could see the animals).

A few words about our particular "pool" view room: Of course, we were on the ground level and could go out of the sliding glass doors onto a patio area outside the room...you could not get to the pool area from the patio area as it was totally enclosed and ours was actually mostly surrounded be trees and shubbery which obscured most of the "pool view"...I don't remember for sure, but, I think all of the ground level rooms were like this...I imagine that is for security reasons(so people cannot get directly to your patio doors). All the other levels had balconies I believe....these oddities did not bother us at all as the room location was so good, it didn't matter....

Overall, AKL was awesome and I would highly recommend it to anyone.....

We also were upgraded from standard to pool view and were given rooms 406 and 408, I believe (last April). We loved our rooms also, like the above poster. We were the 3rd and 4th rooms off the main hall area overlooking the lobby which meant that we were moments from the elevators. And again, these were the same elevators that take you directly to Boma/Jiko and the doors out to the pool.

We didn't want to pay for a savanah view room, but we spent loads of time at the various overlooks and didn't mind it a bit! I'd have to say that we felt very lucky to have gotten the two great rooms we were assigned.:D

When I walked around the pool area after I had received our room I felt that 99% of the rooms were great - even the ground floor rooms that were heavily landscaped could still be used to relax on. The room that we got should be re-evaluated and possibly moved into the standard category. Other than that the resort was amazing. I'm trying to stay at each resort before I decide which are my favorites but it will be hard not to go back there before I finish my rotation.
P.S.
Make a PS at Boma's - I almost didn't go(waited 2 hrs. after our PS time on New Years Day) but still held out and went! Truly excellent food and fantastic desserts!!!
