rather than either filling a 2 bdrm to capacity or reserving a 2 bdrm for us and a studio for my parents? There is a big point difference there. I want us to be comfortable and I hate to think of putting my parents on the sofa bed-it's their first trip ever and I don't want to lose any of their magic! LOL! We just got 200pts at BWV so we would have to bank this year(that's the plan anyway), use 2005 and borrow most of 2006 to cover our trip planned for Dec 16-24 2005. If we didn't do the Grand Villa we wouldn't have to use any 2006 points.

We have stayed in the BW Grand villa and really thought it was well worth the points. It gives you a guaranteed boardwalk view and a large gathering spot in the living room. With three large bathrooms there is plenty of room for up to 12 people. We booked two this Dec for 10 days each plus a one bedroom for our family reunion. Don't have a clue how I'm going to split everyone up as we have 26 people total for most of the time. If you bring an aerobed and are lucky enough to get the one story type..the laundry room is as big as a bedroom and is great for teenagers.

They could be hard to book at this late date for this December but it is worth it if you get lucky. My first time booking one was in JAN when points are much lower.

The grand villa is worth it. It sounds like you have too much for a two bedroom, 8 people is way too much if you have that many. This way everyone has there own bathroom and bedroom, no one should have to sleep in the living room. I have stayed in a GV at OKW, they are 2375 square feet. I can not remember if there is a fourth 1/2 bath down stairs also. The master bedroom is just similar to the one bedroom, then upstairs you have two bedrooms, I believe one has 2 queens and the other 2 regular beds, not sure they both might have 2 queens. There is a very large kitchen and dining area down stairs with the living room and porch. They are great for large family gatherings. I actually rented one with 5 adults and one child, that gave us all the room we needed. With 8 you should have plenty of room just as long as there are just 3 families in the 8 people.

Yes they are worth it, and Yes, they do have a fourth full bath on the living room level at OKW. Not sure about the BWV ones.

sounds like you need to buy more points ;)

The boardwalk only has three bathrooms unless you count the extra sink and tub in the master bath as being a 1/2. Each bedroom has a full bath attached and the laundry room which is as big as a bedroom has a sink with mirror also. It all depends on your family but ours consist of mostly young adults who don;t mind sleeping four to a room. We have soo much fun all being together that we put up with less room per person. We love having catered food and big parties.

Are the 200 BWV points the only points you own? If that is the case, you would not have enough points even with banking/borrowing.

A GV for the dates you posted is 683 points. DVC only allows you to use 300% of your allotted points at one time. You would come in 83 points short.

I do have to say though, if you could make it happen, but even with staying Fri/Sat in a 2 bedroom and switching to a GV, it stills comes in at 655, still short points. It is worth it. We stayed in an OKW GV and fell in love. It will be hard to come down from that!

But isn't this the fun part of DVC? Even when we are not actually there, we can spend our days planning!

I think it's because your dates include an eighth night. December 23rd is a Friday, and that is an extra 96 points.

Yes! The Villas are definitely worth it.....we had a family reunion down at HH last summer. We rented a villa and two studios. We had tons of room at the villas and everyone just hung out there when not at the pool or beach. We really did enjoy our whole trip and so did everyone else! :earsgirl:

I'm glad to hear everyone say they are worth it because our goal is to stay in one for New Year's 2006 at the BWV. This will be a day by day call I'm sure.

I guess I am surpirsed! I looked at those point charts and thought whose got all those points laying around! The one thing holding me back is wether or not we will want to go to WDW in 2006-I guess I could borrow 2007 since we are trying to go every other year. HMMM....The even years are the years we do our family tri-my whole side of the family to Northern WI usually....So if we take off 2006 then when we're ready to go again in 2007 we'll have points....I just can't bear to think off only going to WDW 2 times between now and 2007! Oh well maybe we'll have an add-on by then! ;)

How come OKW Grand Villas are so much less in points? Has anyone stayed there? From the pictures they look really nice.

Or you can do what we like to do. Buy an AP and throw in an extra stay within 12 months of one of your DVC stays when you can get an AP discount at another resort. It is not DVC, but it is better than nothing. Usually the AP rates are great and much cheaper than an add on!

I forgot to add in my previous post that twice we have stayed in a beach cottage at Vero. We have a cottage booked for a third time next May.
The cottage is awesome, but at Vero you get more than just a big 3br villa. You get an incredible balcony overlooking the ocean.

Is it worth all the points??? In my opinion, yes.

Can you rent these villas? I am not a DVC member but will be travelling with a big group. How much $$$ To rent ? Any input would be great.

OKW GVs are less because they were built years before and costs were less. They are HUGE and have an extra bath for those who might want to stay in the living room area. We have another OKW GV reserved for October.

You can rent from Disney for their going rate. I believe OKW GVs are about $1,160 a night during regular season. If you rent from a DVC owner, you would have to make your reservation about 11 months out, and hopefully you wouldn't be looking at early December or October, since those are very popular times with owners. If you rent from an owner, it would be the point value times 10, so about $4390 for a week in the same time as Disney calls "regular" season at the other resorts.
