Who has pulled kids from school?

Every year... we pull them out for a week before March break so that we can have 2 weeks vacation. We started with my son when he was almost 3 (preschool) and now he's in grade 12. With my daughter, we have always taken her out for a week. Her first trip was when she was 6mths. She is now in grade 7.

I agree that it was easier to take them out when they were younger and was usually only asked to do a journal and keep up with their reading reports. As they get older, they were responsible for finding out what they will miss and in some cases, the teachers had provided them info before the trip and other times, they said just wait to catch up when they get back. If there were tests, they were usually given the test within the week they are back.

They do have to work harder to catch up with the assignments and units. Usually, they have some work they can do on the plane or during our downtime, but the majority of the work is done before or after. Recently, some of the assignments have been posted on the teacher's website and they are instructed to follow along and keep up to date.

But even with the help from the teachers, they understand that they still have to do extra work.

We pulled our 8 year old twins out for 2 weeks last year as we made the trek from the west coast to WDW for the first time in November. One of their teachers sent work, the other mostly said just do journal. Regardless I learned on that trip that my kids' teachers do not make enough money dealing with these two!

We are pulling our girls out of school for a week Oct 21-31, they return to class on Halloween :) Both teachers were totally fine with that!

We have and haven't had any issues. It depends on the child though. Both my kids don't struggle in school and are able to work independently. I've asked teachers for work before we left so we didn't have to do everything on our trip. One year my daughter was going to miss a whole math unit so I hired a tutor for two evenings to teach it to her before we left so she was able to do the work she'd be missing.
