We are heading to florida from October 27 returning Nov 7. This means the kids will be missing at least 7 days as we have a pd day in there
Halloween is in there as well and figure they won't do much that day. Our kids are in grade 2 3 ans 7. Has anyone else pulled their kids out. We will not be just going to amusement parks but doing some other things around florida that I think the kids will learn from as well as the drive down. I am hoping the teachers give them some work and not pile it on when we return.

Pulled my oldest when she was 7 for a week. No issues at all, it is easier in the younger grades. As they hit upper grades it does get much harder though and will also interfere with any activities or sports they play. Enjoy this time!

Give all the teachers plenty of notification time. Some may provide work, others may say to make it up on return.

You should be able to find out what material is going to be covered at that time and perhaps you can supplement it with a little bit of teaching yourself. See if you can relate any of the subject matter to anything you encounter during your trip.

We had to take sports into consideration. My oldest does cross country so could go till it was done.

My plan is to let them know at meet the teacher just a little heads up and then probably again around thanksgiving.

We're taking 3 GDG's in January for seven days. They will be missing 4.5 days of school and are in KDG, 3rd, and 6th grades. We won;t be doing homework while we're there, even if they are given the work ahead of time, unless they choose to take something to work on while on the plane.

We've taken our kids out many times. We always give the teachers a heads up. Buy the time DD had started at the kids old school the teachers started asking us when we were pulling them out to go back. LOL DS has had homework some times but most times they have to do a presentation when they comeback for the class about things they learned and how important family is.

We are driving so I am figuring they can do stuff on the drive and when we stop at hotel for the night.

I do. And i have every year. Mine are in grade 9 & 11. Both can only miss 10 days each semester. So we take them out 5 days before xmas vacay and 5 days before March break.
Because a lot of their courses are through google classrooms. They log on every morning on vacay and do the work assigned the night before. We are lucky as both are strong students.

We did in Kinder and G1 and we are again in February (G3) when they will miss 8 school days.

I spoke to a few of the staff at the end of the last school year (we knew we were booking over the summer and didn't know whose class they would be in this year) and all of them said there would be no issues until G6 at the earliest, and even then it really depends on the kid's ability to learn quickly/catch up when they get back. If either of my boys were struggling with school I probably would be more hesitant to take them out unless it was unavoidable (funeral etc)

Luckily for us family time is definitely encouraged within the school

We've pulled our kids out at varying ages in elementary school with no issues. We gave the teachers advanced notice so they could assign homework to take. Once our kids got to high school they didn't want to miss school anymore so we began working our trips around school breaks.

We have pulled DS out a number of times and we are doing it again when we go to Disneyland next weekend. There is a pro d day on the 19th and we are getting back on the 21st so he will miss 2 days. We will be going back in March and since spring break is so late this school year, we will probably pull him out a week early. He is in grade 6 and if the school expressed concerns about him missing school then we would just rethink our plans but we have had no problems so far.

My oldest is in grade 3 and we've pulled her out for at least 1 week each these she's been in school. No issue with it yet and will continue to do so until we feel it's hurting her education or she doesn't want to miss anymore.

We always go to WDW in May, around the Victoria Day long weekend. We pull the kids out of school starting from when our oldest was in Senior Kindergarten up till grade 6(this year). Both kids do well at school and they catch up on missed work quickly on their first day back. The teachers aren't concerned. It's very common for kids to get pulled out at our school for vacation, tournaments, competitions etc..

Never let school get in the way or learning!
I pull my girls out just about every year!
I couldn't agree more. My girls (now 16 & 14) Have learned more from our travels then you can imagine. Last Xmas I got stung by a Portuguese Man o War at Cocoa Beach, last week (first week of school) The Biology teacher in my daughters class had a bunch of species on the smart board, and was asking students what they were, and she was the only one that knew the Man o war. Her teacher says, WOW you knew that one. She said, YEA, not hard my Mom got stung by one in Dec. It opened a whole conversation about them and she texted me to send a picture of my leg. It had wrapped itself around my leg, and the welts were crazy. So yes, take every opportunity you can if they kids are not being hurt by it.

We pulled our younger two in 2014 for a week in May. It was our 20th Anniversary trip. DS was in Grade 7 and middle DD was in Grade 11. Oldest just finished up her 1st year of University.

We let all the high school teachers know in March on meet the teacher night. The ONLY teacher with an issue was the Phys Ed teacher. DD would be missing the hands on weight room week, and she seemed quite put out about it. Asked DD to work out ON VACATION and keep a record of it all. (we took a photo of her in a hotel gym one time). She was the only teacher that gave a ton of extra work and wanted her to work out every day at lunch for a week. This was an elective, not a mandatory class, and she had other work to make up, so DD told her that wasn't going to happen.

But other than that, it was a great week and no other teachers had issues!

We've pulled out kids out for every trip, dating back to 2010 when DD was in grade 2. Never had any problems or regrets with the previous pull outs, we even had to de-register them once when we took them out for a month! The teachers were fully behind the trip, with DD in grade 5 and DS in grade 2.

Next year is high school for DD, so our coming trip in October might be the last fall family trip we make for some time.

I have pulled my kids out every year for trips, be it Disney or elsewhere. There was never an issue. Some teachers gave a bit of work, not much, and in early grades some just asked the kids to do a trip report/diary to share upon their return. Most times, they were given no work at all and were not required to do anything extra upon their return unless they had missed a test. It does get a bit tougher in high school but we still had no issues when DD was in high school and now all of DS's teachers post their assignments online so he can follow along while we are gone.

We used to all the time when my son was in elementary and middle school Now that he is in grade 9, we will not be anymore. He will miss too much school and exam exemptions are based on attendance. Looks like it will be Xmas, March break and summer visits for us for the next 4 years :)
