I've have been doing a lot of research for the best airline tickets and I found Airtran out of Indianapolis for $190/ person round trip for Dec 2-9 nonstop. This was $100 less/ ticket than Delta through an airport 2 hours closer to home but I figured the savings on 5 tickets was worth the drive to Indi. I've not heard much on Airtran and have never used this airline. Could someone let me know what it's like and if they got good service. The other low fair was Delta out of INDI at about the same price but it had one stop. Thanks for any info!!!

We have a few times.. I was happy with them. I especially like how you can upgrade to business for very little money.

I never have, but two of my friends have and they really like AirTran. Right now they are too high for our trip so I'm watching AirTran and Allegiant. Airtran is farther away for us though so I'm leaning towards Allegiant. Airtran and Allegiant are also the only ones with non stop flights from our area.

I have flown with them and they were good. The cheap upgrades as stated in an earlier post is a bonus and their rates are hard to beat. I would recommend them to anyone.

We flew AirTran in February and loved it!!! They have XM Satellite Radio in the arm rests of the seats and give you headphones - that occupied my kids for almost half the flight from Detroit to Orlando. :woohoo: I tried to get flights with them again in August, but they were just too high compared to Northwest. As much as I hate to fly NW anymore, I couldn't pass up the deal.

I was worried flying with Airtran for the first time, but I was pleasantly surprised with one of my best flights. I'd definitely use them again.

Enjoy your flight with your XM radio - I'll be suffering without it!

My favorite airline to Florida out of PHL.

Flown to Miami and MCO many times and have nothing bad to say.

Onlt flew late once because the AC wasn't woring on a nonstop direct and we were delayed about 1 and 1/2 hours. But personnel are generally frendly and helpful.

USAir out of philly runs late , major mechanical issues with planes, loses baggage and lies to it's customers, and has singularly the most hostile employees I have ever seen. And has been that way since it was Alleghaney (SP?) Airlines.

SW is OK , but terminal run down, and I don't like the cattle car style. I will fly if cheaper and the flights , once boarded seems OK, but I am leary primarily due to attitude shown to customers on that A&E show.

If I cabn book AirTran for the same route and comparable I will.

We just flew with them in June for the first time. I was very impressed. Our flight times changed a little bit a few months before our flights, but never the week we flew. Everything was on time, got all our bags, and they have XM radio on all their flights(which the kids loved!). I would recommend them, and their prices are good too!!! We flew them out of Indy also. :sunny:

I just flew AirTran for the 1st time June 25th and came back July 5th. We had a N/S flight out of D.C. (Dulles). I have no complaints at all. We got to the airport in plenty of time so there were no lines when I checked baggage. I tried to print our boarding passes 24 hrs before, but the website wouldn't let me (they were upgrading their computers or something). I called the 800 # and they assigned 4 seats for us as I was afraid that my 2 kids wouldn't be close to us. It turns out DH's name is on the No Fly list (I kind of anticipated this..his name is James Harris), so I had to wait for him to come to the counter after parking the car way out in the economy section to present his ID and get cleared. AirTran profusley apologized because they weren't sure how to do fix it in the computer yet (since they just changed it). But it didn't take very long and they were super nice.

The flight left 20 minutes later because it arrived a few minutes late. The seats were fine, flight attendents were nice, etc. Coming back from Orlando, our flight was delayed because of severe T storms on the East Coast in the D.C. area, but they were able to get us out only 1 hr late instead of 2-3 hours as originally announced. We were happy about that.

I would fly them again. Defintely.

Flown with Airtran a number of times and have always been pleased with the flight and the attendants. Seating in business class (if available) can be had on the day of your flight for a $35 per seat/flight charge and is worth it sometimes! :)

We flew them also to Orlando back in Jan. and loved them. No complaints whatsoever.

Oh and I forgot to mention the other thing I loved - they let those with young children 3 and younger to board first! (At least out of Detroit they did. I can't remember if they did out of MCO. But I'm sure if they don't announce it you asked they would let you) That was a HUGE timesaver for us and the other passengers who didn't have to wait for this single mom to get 2 kids situated in their seats.

My friend just flew with them, after hearing horror stories. She had a good experience! Loved the XM radio thing as well. Her flights were on time, etc. Her only complaint was that there is very little leg room. She said with her tray table down, when the person in front of her put their seat back, her tray table was pushing into her stomach. Also her knees were touching the seat in front. She is 5' 7".

i flew airtran to Tampa via Atlanta it was a GREAT GREAT GREAT airline. Wonderful service and efficent flight times. You'll love the airline

I know many people where I work drive from Cincinnati to Indy and fly Air Tran to Vegas all the time and love it. We would fly them in a heart beat.

:thumbsup2 we've flown with Airtran the last 2 trips to MCO 1st out of Dayton in Dec 2005 New plane!!!! Nice people and when our flight back was delayed due to bad weather over Georgia they did their best to get that plane in and back out of MCO FAST...it was 2 hrs late. In May 2006 we flew them out of Indy another great expirence...would not hesitate to fly them infact I look there first. The one time we flew Delta out of Cincinnati they lost dd's luggage on the way back and they really acted as if they could care less that this happened. I should have sent dd who was 5 go to live with them and they could explain why they lost all her new Mickey stuff. I really like Airtran and secretly hope Delta goes away so we could get Airtran here in Cincy. I'll stop bashing Delta now

My honey flies all the time on business, but never gets to book business class as the company is more concerned with the bottom line than spoiled employees. AirTran has become her preferred carrier because it's generally friendlier and has XM satellite. Maggie

We've flown Airtran many many times....from PHL to MCO. We have never had any trouble whatsoever! My only advice is if you fly Airtran, watch your flight times because they change them often and will also switch your flight without calling you. If the new times or flights don't work out, just call them. The agents you call are super nice and accomodating, as are the onboard staff. We've also upgraded at the gate for $50 per person for business on many occasions.

We would never hesitate to fly Airtran!

We also have flown Airtran out of Dayton the last three years and love it. (and no TDS373X, you can't have them! They're ours! :p ) I am jealous of the great rates out of Indianapolis -- go for it!

We used them for the first time this past May and was a little concerned because we had never flown without preassgined seats. We were pleasntly surprised. When we checked in about 16 hours before departure they had assigned us in like row 7 or 8 window seat and middle seat. We checked in at the resort about 8-9 hours before departure and had been assigned seats together in about the same area. Our plane leaving MCO was a little delayed, but it was because the plane coming in from Atlanta had been delayed due to weather. I would have no problem using them again.

By the way, the plane from DFW to MCO was only about 1/2 full so once we took off people moved around and had whole rows to themselves.

Is the upgrade worth it? What is the difference? This is the first time we are flying Airtran. I wont have access to a computer 24 hours before we leave - will that be a problem for our boarding passes??? Thanks for answering!
