Just wondering about the Haunted Hayrides at Fort Wilderness? Who has done them and what are they like? Are they too scary for little ones? Would you recommend them? thank you!
NO!!!! they dont start til 2 days after I'll have left in Oct. I love the legend of Sleep Hollow, I would really have enjoyed that I think ...maybe next year
We did the Haunted hayride about 2 years ago. it was alot of fun!!
had to go to FW the morning you wanted to go and buy the tickets(i think by the pet care area??).(we went Halloween night, not sure if you could have gotten tickets by the hayride itself) we had dinner at Trails End that night and the hayrides started right by there. if i remember there were about 20 people per ride. You pick up a "storyteller" appropriately dressed for the era. the horse and driver take you on trails thru fort wilderness while the storyteller relates the story of the Headless horseman. Sit near the back of the cart if you want to meet the star of the story "close up and personnel"!!! might be a scary for little ones tho. I do remember being a little chilly on the ride and it was very buggy, but a fun way to spend Halloween night if you are not going to MNSSHP. Sorry I don't remember the cost. also there was a line that night. BTW Trails End for dinner was great. Lots of good old "comfort food".
Last year there were no "haunted" hayrides....only the regular ones. We went anyway and had a great time. We worked our way thru the Wilderness Campground where lots of campers had decorated for the holiday, stopping by the lake where we could watch the fireworks at MK...they had the sound piped in so we could hear the music (not WISHES, but on a MNSSHP night....) then back to where we started outside the Trail's End....
I really wanted to do this last year and was SO disappointed when I called and they were no longer offering it. I thought I had just called too late in October, but it sounds like maybe they never did them at all last year? I really hope they bring it back this year!
We did the regular hay ride a few years ago and it was a highlight. The CM told great stories, we toured through the camp grounds, and ended up at the beach for fireworks. I doubt they'd make the haunted version too scary.
The Haunted Hayride is excellent, and it really is a lot of fun... as to whether or not little ones would like it, it depends on how easily they are spooked. In general, it's not that scary. It's the legend of Sleepy Hollow. There's something in it that may scare them if they scare easily though... I don't want to post what it is here on this board, because it would ruin it for others. My 9 y/o ds loved it though!
We did it 2 years ago and our kids loved it! It's a little spooky at the end but not overly so. Our DD's were 6 and 9 at the time. We also tried to do it again last year and I also believe that they didn't offer it at all. The sign said something about "technical difficulties". I hope they do it again this year, it's well worth the $ and puts you in the Halloween spirit!
