Who has a Wii and an xbox?

ETAddress the poster above me: Yes, it can mess up the sensor for a minute if someone else moves into it's range while you are playing. It scans the bodies of those playing before beginning and a new body sort of freaks it out. Little brothers seem to love dashing across behind older sibs while they play (common occurance when our Kinect is on LOL)

Thanks for the feedback. I have a feeling that little sisters will love doing it just as much... at least DS's little sister will. :goodvibes

DH and the kids (7, almost 5) have been after me ever since Kinect came out to buy an xbox. I always say no because we have a Wii and I don't think we need 2 gaming systems. We are a pretty big gaming family and often play the Wii together. We've had it for 3 years and have gotten our money's worth.

We do put limits on the amount of time the kids play, but there have been times when I'm so glad we have it. DH and I have played it at night after the kids go to bed when there's nothing on TV. Last fall DS broke his leg 2 weeks before his 4th birthday and was laid up for 4 weeks with a full leg cast. The Wii pretty much saved me during that time since DS literally couldn't do anything but lay on the couch. We also read books and played board games, but that only takes up so much time during the day!

But, now that I've seen the Disneyland game that xbox is coming out with, I'm starting to change my mind! The kids have played the Kinect at Best Buy and a friend's house and I do like the moving around and not just sitting there aspect of it. The only thing that has held me back is that we have a Wii.

Anyone have both and not regret it? How to you balance the use of both systems so one doesn't sit there collecting dust and so you get your money's worth? I would still put limits on video game time and make sure we play them as a family, but I don't want our family time to be all about video games. I like it when we play board games, too!

PS--I'm looking for responses from people who have both or who are considering both or who have 2 major gaming systems. My intention is not to turn this into a debate about kids playing video games, so please keep that in mind.

I do not consider you a BIG GAMING family unless you have all of them. XBOX or PS3 is must if you are a gamer.;) To put it bluntly, Nintendo is very different from XBOX or PS.

We have hooked up to play at this point...

Gamecube (in 14yodd's room)
Playstation 2 (my room or it goes with 20yodd at times)
Wii (my room)
XBOX360 (20yodd's room)

14yoDD also still plays her Nintendo DS. She is playing Pokemon White or whatever that is.

We also have stuff in boxes, like a Supernintendo and a reg. XBOX.

I would like a PS3, but I refuse to pay that much. I will wait for the next version. I do not have the Kinect. If I bought it, it would be for me more than likely.

My 20yodd is always playing Modern Warfare 2 online.

Your kids are young. You might want to research systems first before you make that leap. Go to gamefaqs.

I have a ds5 and a ds15. The Wii is used by ds5 and the Xbox and PS3 are used by ds15. DS15 used to play the Wii until he was about 14. I haven't really seen any appropriate games for younger kids on the Xbox or PS3. They're all for the Wii.

We have a Wii and Xbox in the house.

The wii still gets used by dd and Xbox by 14 year old. They got the kneict for Christmas last year and I think that is the only time they played with it. :confused3

Most games on the Xbox are war type games which don't interest my dd and probably are not really for young children. That is why we got the Wii in the first place.

we have both. My boys mostly use the XBox 360. The Wii is used more by the family.

We have both, the XBox gets used 10 times as much as the Wii. These days the Wii pretty much only gets used for Netflix. Our kids are 16, 16, 18 and there are just more games for them on the XBox.

Same here. The Wii is used for Netflix and my kids (13 and 16) use the Xbox

We have a Wii, xbox, and a PS3. My DS12 (nearly 13) uses the xbox and plays xbox live quite a bit. He loves his xbox!!! We got the PS3 first because that is what my dh wanted, and he thought it was a better gaming system, ect (still does). When DS's friends all started to really get into xbox and xbox live he felt left out and after about a year of really wanting one, we finally gave in, and he got one for the holidays.

So, now our 8 year old twins DS play on the Wii in the basement (they love it,) DS (12) plays on the xbox in the front room aka his "man cave" and DH has his PS3 in the living room... While they are all gaming, I think it is a great time to go shopping or for a mani/pedi!!!

We have "the big 3" : Wii, XBox360, PS3.

They are used in this order : PS3, Wii, XBox360.

The PS3 is used on a regular basis. The Wii is used a few times a week. The XBox360 has been used maybe 7 times in the past 18 months. Seriously. But DS will not let us get rid of it. So it collects dust.

DH and I have both a Wii and an XBOX and love them.

We use the Wii for Netflix and for playing "fun"/"easy" games. We use the XBOX for more "serious" games.

We have all the systems and Xbox 360 is used the most. I was actually thinking of selling the wii and all the games - they never use it anymore. My kids are 14 and 18.

We have the Wii and PS3. The Wii is used pretty much 100% of the time. All of use it. The only thing the PS3 is used for is as a blue ray DVD player. Mainly because of the choice of games available. It just seems more adult and DH has little time to use it and tends to use the Wii when he does play. I prefer the Wii. I thought about the XBox for Christmas but there just isn't enough games out there for the Kinnect that will suit our entire family. The new Disney game might influence a change of mind but its hard to justify a new system just for one game.
