Our trip is for the end of October. Since we are bringing our 2 and 3 year old grandkids, I am really hoping that masks will be a fading nightmare. I can´t see a good flight trying to keep a mask on a 2 yo. Do you think Disney will relax the outdoor use of masks at the resorts at least by then? Give me some hope that it will be a lot better than it is now.

Sure, if more people get vaccinated.

who knows?? temp checks IMO are virtually worthless for adults as an adult should know if they are running a fever. it appears unlikely at this point that we will reach herd immunity in our country as many people just refuse to get vaccinated. truth is IF you are vaccinated it is very highly unlikely that would get sick or have a high enough viral load to be infectious to another person. the threat is therefore to/from an unvaccinated individual. IF the prevalence of the virus drops to a low enough point the CDC would relax the mask mandate. Until then...masks/social distancing will be in our lives....BTW, without herd immunity it is likely we will see more surges in covid infections.......

Ha, I have three crystal balls but I'm sorry to say none of the work...LOL. Good luck, I too can’t wait for the mask thing to go away, I hate wearing a mask! I will keep my fingers crossed for all of us that they go away soon. :tink:

My crystal ball is not functioning, but I predict Disney is planning to the mask requirement before the 50th anniversary celebration (October 1, 2021).

That's almost 5 months away.

All bets are off if there's another spike. But if there's another spike, something is seriously wrong.

I could see them maybe relaxing the outdoor requirements, but I think they'll still be required indoors for some time. But, it still will depend upon what continues to happen with the virus, and CDC recommendations...and that is unknown. Even the Magic 8 Ball is saying:

573396

With children not being vax eligible, and the impossibility of checking adult vax status, I suspect they hold onto masking longer than most think.
I would agree that will likely be the case...but still we have no way to tell for sure. My neighbor across the street is a retired nurse, she is under the impression that children will be added to at least the Pfizer eligibility sooner, rather than later....but again...we'll have to wait and see. I would also suggest trying different types and sizes of masks, some may fit your face better and be more comfortable. One just arrived that I ordered off of ETSY, and I got an extra large. While the fabric is heavier, it has more room between my nose/mouth and the fabric. and still seems to seal very well. Much more comfortable. But it wasn't cheap. Find the one that works best for you.

I think the masks will be gone by October and maybe sooner. Our state (MN) just announced today that the indoor mask requirement will be lifted by July 1 or when 70% of the state's eligible adults have been vaccinated, whichever comes first. (We are at just under 60% right now). The outdoor mask requirement is gone starting tomorrow at noon.

I am optimistic. :). (And also have an October trip planned).

Yeah, but last I heard Florida was just over 30% fully vaccinated, and Texas is about 35%...so it will take a while, yet. But 60%+ in MN is awesome!

I don't think either of those states are/will be using Minnesota's criteria, though. Didn't Florida already lift their mask requirement? Of course, Disney isn't going along with that right now.

I'm optimistic that WDW will loosen up this summer. Might be just be wishful thinking, though. :teeth:

The likely EUA for Pfizer will only drop to the 12-15 age group to start. They have not applied for the younger cohort yet, as they don't have the data yet.

2-12 is unlikely to even start before Labor Day.

If Disney is still requiring masks outdoors the last week of July, we will be cancelling our family HHI trip. I will be super sad since it's the last opportunity we have to take a family trip for the next three years, but it just doesn't seem like a vacation if we have to wear masks in 90 degree heat. We will go somewhere else--even though HHI is my favorite place on earth and I would prefer to go there rather than somewhere else.

My magic 8 ball says "Cannot Predict Now".

It's all about herd immunity and continuing declines in infection rates. At the present rate, unless there is a change to people's attitudes in certain states, the US will not reach herd immunity by October. International travel may again open up by October, which means more potential for non-vaccinated people. Disney is determined to NOT become known as a "super spreader" location. So, expect to be wearing a mask at WDW until 2022.

I don't own one. 😆

Seriously though, I'm not looking forward to wearing a mask in the fall heat/humidity but of course I'll gladly follow the rules, whatever they may be. I'd love it if we didn't have to mask up though. We shall see!
