Who got a PS3?

and how many of them were friends of the employees

My co-worker's husband works security at one of the malls here in NJ and he got called into work at 3 am because over 600 people were in the mall and it was out of control.

He had asked a few weeks ago if one of the guys from EB games could put one aside for him. The employees were told if anyone was caught playing favorites they were out of a job. Now, that's certainly not to say that some favoritism didn't happen, but they were all told.

People buying these PS3 off Ebay are crazy to pay that much money.

Last year after the XBOX 360 launch I remember that everytime I went into Target (I shop when the stores first open) I always saw at least 1 XBOX360 on the shelf.......they really were not hard to get after the first week "IF" you were looking.......I wasn't even looking for one but found myself always checking just to see if whatever store I was in had any or not.

all the stores say that....I agree alot of employees listen.....but alot don't... I hate when they only release a small amount of a very popular item right before christmas.....make people go twice as crazy.

I didn't try to get one nor do I want one but I couldn't' believe how many people were camping out for them last night in the 25° temps to buy a VIDEO GAME????? Nuts, just nuts!

I would have been one of the people camping out for the Xbox 360 had it not been for 2 reasons.
A.I had no money.
B.I couldn't skip skool for three days to wait in line for it.

Now the people trying to get the ps3 in my opinion are crazy because of the price point. Even though the cheaper one is only 500 DOLLARS, it's still outrageous seeing as the backwards compatability isn't working for about 200 or so of the original ps2 and ps1 games. Plus, the onl way you can use the blu-ray player is if you have an hd tv.

So, what have we learned?

My deal, is I totally respect first come, first served. If someone is willing to camp out for a week to get one, wow, hats off!!

But, to lie to people for whatever reason, in my book isn;t playing "fair".

I was going to go on Wednesday morning and start waiting. At first I was told to check in at electronics and then wait back in layway. Then the store manager jumped in and said they had decided to not open lines until 7am. I was like how safe can that be??? Walking around waiting for them to say, okay the line is on aisle 5.

I am not going to lie either, I was going to resell it. We have had several unexpected expenses the last 2 months. My husband is self employed, so when he is not working, he is not getting paid. So we are still on the fence about him missing a week of work. I wanted to use the money to add a little security for him going.

The big topic of discussion in our city was the weight of the people in line. I kid you not. Everyone was talking about it in our local paper. They had a picture of kids in line who easily weighed 300 pounds each and they said they came there with a good supply of chips and soda and they skipped school for 3 days to stand in line.

One particular movie comes to mind: "Jingle All the Way" with Arnold Schwartzenagger and Sinbad. Usually it's art imitating life. Looks like now, it's life imitating art.

<Minor rant>
I just don't get it :confused3. It's a video game system that will come down in price sooner or later. I know they only have about 400k that are being sold right now, but come on! There are more important things going on in the world than a video game system. I also don't think it's right for people to buy this system then put it up on EBay for more money! That spells one word to me Greed! This type of scenerio with toys (ex. Tickle Me Elmo) and electronics (PS3) get me so mad b/c all I see is just how greedy people can be. A toy or electronic is not worth someone getting hurt or worse.

My TRU did not even get in enough to cover what the pre-sold.. there are going to be a few pissed off peoplr today.

DH and I thought about getting DS the PS3. I figured if anything, I would print out a picture of the system put it in a card with an explanation and then buy it when there are more available, setting the funds aside for it. I think if that was what we chose as his big gift, the fact of getting it alone would make him happy, and although he would hate the wait, would completely understand with it being a 'hot' item and all.

Good friend of mine works for EB Games and she wanted one but she didn't get one. No favorites.

A dentist in Georgia hired some temps to stand in line for him!! :rotfl2: When word got out he cancelled it due to "bad publicity"...

I thought it was a GREAT idea! :rotfl2:

I told my son that I'm sooooo thrilled he doesn't like video games. That's MY blessing!!

First, there is already a patch from Sony to fix the problem of not playing previous games, so it's already a done deal.

Second, If you bought an XBox 360, plus the HD-DVD add on, it adds up to...$600, so no better than the PS3 with Blu-Ray (which is a format supported by MANY more studios).

I dont think backwards compatability is a dealbreaker for anyone, I mean if they have the previous consoles games, odds are they have the console that plays them.

To me OPTIONAL is better than standard, nobody is forcing anyone to buy the HD-DVD add on for their 360. My boy has not asked for a PS3(has 360), but his setup is not High def anyways, so for us saving $200 would be BETTER.

Clueless when it comes to these things, what the heck does that thing do for 600.00?

I'm so happy my kids love their Gamecube. ;) :rotfl:

I truly like the idea of backwards compatibility. My DS has enough game consoles in his entertainment center, that eventually you start to run out of room. You put the old ones in the closet and then have to go digging for them just to play an old game.

I understand what you mean by optional being better than standard, but eventually you might get high def, and then will want to get the optional add on's for it. So in the end it will equal out.

At the Sam's Club near my office, they had a sign on the door last night saying they were only getting 2 of them to sell on Friday. Yes, there were 2 people in line and apparently had been there for awhile. It got pretty cold last night. Hope they enjoy them!!!
