Who Got A Paper Coconut In The Mail?

QUOTE]The CM was very nice and explained that it is just a random mailing and done by an outside marketing company. DCL themselves does not do the mailing. She did not know what the criteria was for the current mailing or even what the mailing looked like...[/QUOTE]

I've sailed DCL 6 times, all Catagory 6. Never received a thing. My friend has sailed once, Catagory 1. He gets something from DCL/CC what seems like every other week! Maybe you need to sail in a higher catagory to get the promos....

I've sailed DCL 3 times all in a Cat. 6 and have 2 more cruises coming up that are also a Cat. 6, and I got the Coconut last week. I don't think it matters what cat. you book since it's supposed to be random.

I believe I posted, more like whined  , on here last week, that we didn't get a coconut. Wellll guess what.......ours arrived yesterday in the mail. My apologies. I would like to also state, they are not just mailing to women. Ours was addressed to DH who cannot boil water, let alone make a souffle! LOL... Guess I will be the one making it this weekend!

P.S. mmouse37-Just curious, by any chance did you get one? I thought maybe you might have gotten one late like us.

Nope...still no coconut....I have decided DCL has no problem taking my money for rebookings, but does not want to give up a coconut!!! LOL!!! :confused3

And I also agree that stateroom Cat has nothing to do with it....we have been in most stateroom categories (except 1, 2 or 3) but in all the rest!!!

Just a thought, does it have anything to do with booking through DCL directly instead of using a travel agent?

It sounds really cute. We booked with AAA 15 months before our sail date. AAA and DCL had the same price at that time, but AAA gave free soda mugs. Now the mugs aren't necessary, so I think they are giving our group of 7 another perk.

Does Disney have a past passenger program like Crown and Anchor for RCCL? Is there a membership fee?

Having read through this thread, there is doesn't seem to be any sure fire criteria for receiving this mailing. If there is it is only know by the inscrutable minds of the marketing compay handling this piece. There also seem to be different drop (mailing dates) which would make sense given the pretty significant number of people in this population. The rules of marketing can be almost as confusing and arbitrary as the IRS codes!

Got our yesterday, can't wait to try it out. See if we can do as good a job as what we had at Palo. Won't have quite the same atmosphere of course.

I got my coconut yesterday! I feel like I am part of the group now! Yeah! Now the questions really remains on whether I will be brave enough to try the recipe? :cool1:

DCL does have a past passenger program called the Castaway Club. There is no fee to join, you are automatically entered by sailing once on DCL... but it is not as good as other lines....they do have the CC club check in at the port which sometimes is more convenient, they have the return cruiser gift which has been a towel for the last few years, and they have a cocktail reception for past cruisers. Other lines give some monetary discounts and incentives...DCL does not.

And I have booked both directly with DCL and with TA's and still still not get a cocount.

"but it is not as good as other lines...."

I suppose it won't be unitl such time, if any, that the Disney ships stop sailing at near capacity every trip, before repeat cruisers see more significant perks. Until then, I get a kick out of every little extra. I think it would be fun to see a different gift for return guests, but we're thinking two more cruises and each of one of us in the family will have their own beach towel. :earboy2: We might even think about using one of them then, instead of hoarding it away like a precious collectible. :smooth:

I received my coconut about a week ago. The dessert sounds delicious. Not sure my family will go for it. I'll have to save that recipe for my special friends. :cool1:

Well, I'm booked on the Eastern Repo and I haven't received one. My friends, who are on the Western Repo just got one. I don't know HOW they do these things. They're certainly NOT consistent!

We received our coconut on Friday. Do you think it was geared to people who have another cruise coming up? That was my impression from reading it. It was cool. Hey, how did you souffles turnout?? I was drooling just reading the recipe!

Happy days!

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE DCL and LOVE THOSE TOWELS....ALL 10 OF THEM!!! But I do think DCL can revamp their return cruiser policy a bit better. I also am thrilled with anything I receive as an extra. It's just that at the beginning of the CC club we got a letter saying that many offers would be made available to CC members but none ever did....I have returned to DCL 12 times after my initial cruise which was the maiden voyage of the Magic back in '98....they know they got me hooked but they could offer some sort of frequent cruiser incentives!!!

I often get $100 coupons for RCCL.

Strangely enough that paper coconut arrived at my house today addressed to MY DAUGHTER!
Not sure how they are marketing these (random or what) but I did enjoy it.

Maybe they are hoping to get the children to beg their parents for another cruise?!

I did not receive the mailing but would love the recipe... would anyone mind posting it???

Hey mmouse37, I know you're a huge fan. I kind of wanted to make it clear to others reading this thread that it isn't that Disney is stingy when it comes to repeat cruisers. I too would love to see some additional perks, like coupons or maybe on board credit. I guess some of the ideas they may have had when they started out didn't need to be realized, since they became so popular with the return guests. It just blows me away how they have to do so little incentivizing to fill their ships and how many of us return over and over, despite the wrap they sometimes get here as being over priced.

Wow, 10 towels, that's cool! I would let my kids use a couple in the summer around the pool if I knew I had some in reserve! But it would be fun to see some new gifts. Maybe even some characters at the Cast Away club reception or some new little twists.

I haven't received the coconut. :sad1: . We did get the CD/screensaver though a few weeks after we sailed last summer. :flower:
