I flew into Providence yesterday on business and flew home this morning. Wow - the security line was this amazing never ending conga line that snaked around upstairs, down the escalator, back up some stairs and then finally to the security point. I was in line at least 1/2 hour. I had plenty of time to make my flight, but heard lots of complaining and swearing in line about others missing theirs. My plane was also held for 10 minutes waiting for some to clear security. Is this a normal occurance there or was today just a really bad day?

OH ME ME ME ME!!

I fly out of there a lot (to and from college) and have never had to wait in a long line.
It was probably just a bad day.

Last few trips to FL we flew from Providence.
I think you hit a bad day. We've had to wait up to 1/2hr before but I dont remember the stairs. It snaked in where we entered, cut across, then snaked again but it was all on the same floor.

I've always breezed through PVD. I think you may have caught a bad day. Not usually the norm.

We always fly out of Providence and have witnessed the long security lines but they move fast. The only time they held the plane was on Christmas day when some numbskull was trying to carry on 2 vials or small test tubes of an unknown liquid and gave them a hard time because security was going to confiscate it! I was very glad when security finally took him away!

It wouldn't matter if there were 10 people in line--someone will always complain! Seriously, we have been in some of those lines. Yes, they are long but they really don't take that much time and if you've gotten to the airport 90 minutes prior to your flight time, it shouldn't be an issue. Personally I'd like to think that the lines are long because the security folks are be extra careful and that's just fine with me!

WDWLVR: Did you fly out or sail out? We were just about to build our family ark! Was this your first RI trip?

I agree with the others, yesterday was an exception. We've never had that long a wait, even when we flew in October, 2001 when extra security measures were still very new.

Glad to hear that this morning must have been more the exception than the rule. Like I said I got there in plenty of time so it wasn't a problem for me. I was really feeling sorry for the workers because they were getting a lot of verbal abuse.

This was my first time flying in and out of Providence. All the other times I've been in the area I've flown in to Logan. The area is beautiful and it did rain the entire time I was there. Watched the local news this morning and they were talking about the rivers flooding. It was sunny and warm back here in Chicago- hope the sun comes by you soon to dry things up. We have rain here tonight, but need it.

There was a long snakey line (all upstairs) last time I was there, but I know it's still an easier option than Logan. That, and you gotta love Southwest.
