Who Fartleked?: Putting the FUN back in the RUN - all the way to Goofy '09

Please allow me to begin today's entry with a bit of a vent, a little rant about something that has truly become my nemesis. Something so frustrating to deal with as it sits there in it's little corner just waiting for me to approach it, fill it with yummy goodness and then get the finger in return.

Imagine waking up and looking forward to that one thing in the morning that gets your day started off right. That one key thing that the entire day's mood is dependent upon. Be denied that one thing and let the furor ensue...setting of an early morning rage like no other. Not having an alternate option to satisfy your morning nutritional needs...ending up going to work hungry, unsatisfied, undernourished and...well...just p%^$ed off.

Allow me to introduce you to my enemy:

Not once, but TWICE during the last few months these stupid little machines have burned out their stupid little motors, thus denying me the critical component in my morning routine...my strawberry banana smoothie.

Oh not just any strawberry banana smoothie, but one made with Antioxidant Advantage orange juice...the only juice so fortified with immunity defense that I could drink vials of the flu and remain unscathed. Not only is it the best breakfast one can consume, but the recipe came from a very dear friend of mine (who happens to have a plethora of the best recipes available anywhere) and it just tastes soooo good!

So anyway, there are a couple of smoothie makers that thought they got the upper hand on me by burning out their weak little motors...only to find me getting the last laugh in the backyard, having my fun by seeing how many different ways I could find to smash them into pieces (think Office Space copier scene...only more violent)

And here I sit on another unfulfilled morning, denied of my smoothie goodness...pondering leaving the world of the inadequate smoothie makers for the rich, beautiful blender world that exists out there.

Oh great blender god, be good unto thee as I pledge my allegiance to you in hopes of many good mixes to come....

:rotfl:

Maybe you should upgrade...

Sorry to hear about the injury. You are very smart to take another day and switch up your workouts! Hope it feels better tomorrow.

Suprisingly, I can relate on the whole couch issue. Sometimes I sleep so much better on the couch than I do in the bed! Although, I don't make it a habit of sleeping there every night! :goodvibes It's great for naps though! When I can nap.

Scott...I do enjoy your rambles!

Could I get the recipe for the Stawberry Banana Smoothie??? Sounds yummy! and what is this special orange juice??? We have a smoothie maker, but never make smoothies--only Margaritas!

Peace!
Stacie

I could handle a margarita or three right now - well, actually, my blood sugar would probably go off the scale, but who cares?? (Oh, yeah, that would be me - I DO care.)

Anyhoo, glad your back is better, Scott. Sorry for the problem with your shin, but hope that it also improves. You have accomplished WAY too much to be sidelined with an injury now.

Hope you have a good weekend.

Susan

EVIL SMOOTHIE!! Sorry you're having so many technical difficulties with your morning routine. Not cool ;).

Anyway couch boy....I hope your shin is better? Let us know how the run went and if you're feeling ok!!!! :goodvibes

Behold the second most beautiful thing I've ever seen:

Boy, I cannot wait for tomorrow morning to come!!

(yes, it's an exciting life I lead)

The 2nd??? ;)

Glad to see you've gotten a replacment... and can now happily be McSmoothie! (where is my recipe???) Hope your couch treats you well tonight and you do not end up on the floor tomorrow!

Yeah...how are those shins???

Quick drive by to use my journal to keep track of my weekend numbers :goodvibes:

Friday - 30 minutes of pilates, 5 mile run in 45:30 (9:06 mpm)
Saturday - 20 mile bike ride in 1:09:17 (17.3 mph)

Hopefully heading over to the FC here in a bit to do an hour on the elliptical. I also want to get 30 minutes of pilates in today.

Tomorrow I'm set for an 8 mile run...but I'm not sure if the weather is gonna cooperate. If I'm forced to the FC, I'll pull back to 6 miles (I think that's my max on the treaddie)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Really kicking some asphalt there man!!! Great job! Hope your 8 miler goes well!

Yeah, well sometimes good plans are just that. Good plans.

After being on the elliptical for about 15 min or so, I got kind of shaky feeling...like I was weak or something. So I called it a night at the 30 minute mark and opted for some food intake.

I also decided to skip the pilates today....I've done three days in a row and I do have to long run tomorrow, so I'll stay fresh for it and then catch up with some core work tomorrow night.

I did manage a very minor injury tonight...as I was walking away from the elliptical, I somehow rammed my knee into the casing on it...right square on the kneecap! It felt pretty good. Luckily that boo boo subsided pretty quickly.

Don'tcha just love Saturday nights? Nothing on tv...nothing making news on the net...no one around here posting...leaving me alone with my thoughts, which is a recipe for certain disaster :rotfl:

Let's see....what did I learn today....

  • 20 miles is a pretty long way to travel on the bike. Out there pedaling for over an hour started to take its toll on me a little bit. I need to take a gel next time and take it about 45 minutes into the ride. The weather was beautiful though, which made for a very pleasant spin on the trail.
  • The best time to get an oil change (or service on the car) at the dealership is Saturday afternoon around 2:30. I think they took no more than about 15 minutes from the time I pulled in to the time I drove off. They did an oil change and some basic brake work. Sure was nice to get in and out of there.
  • Haircut stylists should not try to be salespeople. No, I'm not there to get a shampoo today just a basic cut please...yes, I already use paste/gel stuff - and no I don't need anymore, especially since you don't carry it...and NO I don't want to try hair THICKENING shampoo. I was slightly insulted by that one...was that a nice way of saying my hair is thinning? (I never thought I'd be bothered by it but it REALLY disturbs me).
  • Jimmie Johnson is one of my favorite athletes. I watched a special on him and I really like this guy! I was a fan prior to seeing it, but it just really hit home with me. A true case of nice guys finishing first. Here's hoping he wins the Daytona 500 tomorrow. Go #48!!
  • The stupid automatic log out thing on these boards really drives me freaking crazy. Always copy what you type in, just in case you go to that point of no return. People staying logged in...is that really the problem? Maybe some old threads need to be deleted in order to free up disk space and make everything run a tad bit faster...*shrug*...what do I know anyway.

Hmmm....I think that's about it. Guess I'm out of material for the time being.

Let the stir craziness continue...

Nah, you know...I'm not done yet.

Don't mean to offend anyone here with this one...but there are some completely useless retail stores out there. You know, the stores that you think you like, but when you go there you can never really find anything...or when you do, one spin through the wash/dry cycle turns your garment into a hand me down for the neighbors next baby.

I actually have an entirely useless shopping center near me. Here is a partial list of the retail mediocrity hogging up the store fronts....

Kohl's. Quite possibly the king of all that is wrong with the retail box. None of what I have ever bought there survived longer than a few weeks...zippers stop working, shirts shrink and end up fitting better on a webkinz, their shoe line consists of shoes found no where else for some reason (check out their Asics...who ever heard of those models?), and good luck trying to find your size in a pair of Dockers.

Target. Yes, Target. I know some people love it, but I can never find anything I'm looking for in there. Sure, it's a heck of a lot cleaner than Wally World but I always seem to walk out dissatisfied.

Old Navy. Old favorite. I thought. I have a bunch of clothes from there, but I never seem to wear them anymore. Seems that the quality is just not up to par. They've come through for some kid's stuff in the past, but I've found that I'm better off just saving up some extra $$ and take advantage of those sales at the Gap.

Rack Room & Pay Less Shoes. I've been in there a few times and again, just never seem to find the right styles or sizes for what I'm looking for.

Dress Barn. A barn? really? maybe it's a good store...but I've never been in it. I just can't equate barns with decent clothing.

Ahhh well...maybe I'm just too picky. I don't want to come off like some kind of clothes snob, cause that's the furthest thing from the truth. I just get annoyed by frequenting these stores and walking out empty handed. Maybe I just need to take a lesson in successful thrifty shopping??

OMG Scott you had me cracking up ,again!!!!!!!!!

Sorry you weren't feeling well, I hope it passed.Tough one on the knee!

Is it true you are considered an athlele sitting behind the wheel of a car? Oh my DH would debate that one big time ;)

Have a good one,
Linda

:rotfl:

Nah, you know...I'm not done yet.
:lmao: Of course you're not... :rotfl2: You...in the wee hours...alone...with your computer...and your thoughts... :goodvibes We love it though! :lovestruc

OMG...You really make me laugh Scott! I can always count on your for a good laugh, or giggle!

Good plans...yeah, it seems that happens to me all the time!

Sorry you didn't feel well. That's a bummer! I must say, I'm not happy your knee was hurt, but just visualizing you running into the machine kinda made me laugh. It's not funny, but anytime something clumsy happens... :goodvibes

I hear ya on the stores!!! I actually like RackRoom shoes, but haven't found anything there in a while...I agree 100% on Kohl's and Dress Barn! I always end up at Belks. Good name brands, descent sales...

Hope your knee is fully recoup'd now and you have a great week training!!!

Stacie

Did I mention that I bought my Asics at Kohl's?:rolleyes1 :lmao: (By the way, I loved my shoes when I bought them and now they don't seem to fit right.:confused3 )

Your posts always crack me up! :lmao: Thanks for the laughs, Scott!:goodvibes

Great job with your workouts! :cheer2: Hope your knee is feeling better.:goodvibes

Have a great Monday!:cool1:

Scott, you are too funny. I can't comment on any stores except Dress Barn - their prices are WAY too high. Fashion Bug has much better buys (at least for plus size clothes).

And now that THAT burning question is out of the way - sorry for the knee injury and you not feeling up to par. Hope all is well today. Have a good one!

Susan

Hello

Sunday I managed a cold, wet and windy 8 miles on the trail....yesterday I took my scheduled rest day....and today, something is just not right with me. I've decided to scrap all workouts and do a couple hours on the couch instead. Pains me to miss a workout, but I just feel off. :confused3

I feel like a medical disaster waiting to happen...my shin still bothers me a bit every morning (but feels fine walking around on it...very odd), I need to make an eye doctor appointment (never worn glasses but something is telling me that my eyesight is starting to go :( ) and yesterday the dentist reminded me that I really need to get a few wisdom teeth pulled (which terrifies me).

I know it's all trivial compared to what a lot of people go through every day, but it's still what I have to deal with and it is slightly depressing to me.

Enough moping...

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be right back out there for my 6 miler :yay: :woohoo:

Aw Scott... I'm so sorry you're having a downer evening... I know how you feel. I actually bagged my aquacise tonight. Sometimes we just need a mental break and comfy time on the couch. I really hope you feel much better tomorrow!

Maybe this will make you feel better??? :confused3

Sorry you're feeling so down...and "not right". Good idea to listen to your body and skip the workout. Sometimes we need to pay attention to the signals we get...and it seems rest is the signal you're getting.

Take care of yourself...and seriously take off another day if you're feeling beat up again tomorrow.

Scott,
Hope you are feeling better soon.I had my wisdom teeth out,not really a big deal. I was in the hospital for it,they were impacted and more difficult to get out.By that afternoon I was eating a cheeseburger, not supposed to, but it was not that bad.I just avoided the back.Healing time was nothing.

Get some well deserved rest,
Linda
