I see quite a few amateur Egyptologists on the boards. I love all things Egyptian, have studied it quite a bit. I read any books set in Ancient Egypt as well, in particular mysteries including the Amelia Peabody series and several more factual Egyptian mystery series.

Me! I'd love to go to Egpyt one day.

I'd also love to have way too much money and a big enough house that I could decorate various rooms with themes. I'd love an egyptian room. And a morrocan room.

I've always wanted to go to Egypt, but Doug never takes me anywhere.

I used to walk like an Egyptian, and knew the words to KING TUT

I downloaded this recently and was cracking up. Then I picked up some old Steve Martin cd's. Funny funny stuff.
::yes::

My husband does. If there's a show on the History channel about Egypt I can forget about getting his attention...have to wait till the show is over.

Love it. I would have done graduate work in Ancient History instead of U. S. History if my school had not required learning Greek or Latin as part of the major. As it was, I took every ancient near east class my university offered.

I read serious Egyptology stuff and fluff, such as the rather racy Pauline Geddes books.

I have a gold cartouche as well as a few less valuable things from Egypt.

I tivo everything with Egypt in it, and have been reading up on Egypt since I was a small child. I almost always have something on me that has an ankh or a cartouche. My desk at work has a few egyptian statues. I have a lot of Egyptian stuff at home, as far as home decor. My AOL IM name is a variation on Eye of Horus (not that exactly since it was already taken). I can semi-read glyphs & I can talk for hours about the various Egyptian dieties and customs. I literally cheer when I hear of new discoveries.

I occasionally take in foster animals to place in forever homes. They always get Egyptian names. The last cat I took in was Osiris and the last bird was Horus.

I play fantasy role play games with a large group of people and I am working on a game set in Egypt where all of the folks' characters will be living in ancient Egypt and I'm trying to keep it historically accurate (with a bit of myth thrown in for fun).

I'd say I like Egypt. :)

I have not actually been there, but I will sometime within the next 10 years. It's kind of dangerous over there right now. I hope that one day the violence in that region of the world dies down so that tourism to Egypt picks up (hence more funding for the upkeep of the monuments).

One of my biggest fears these days with the violence in the middle east is that some nut will blow up one of the pyramids or other monuments that had been here for thousands of years.
I know I probably shouldn't worry, but I do. :(

LOL! Amberle - we want that too. We sort of already have it. We have so much Egyptian stuff. Later on, I'll post some pictures...

I love all things Egyptian and try and see all the exhibits that come here to the Toronto Area.

Was very lucky to get a chance to see the Egyptian exhibit from the British museum that came to Toronto this Summer it was excellent.

majored in art history in college so was exposed quite a bit to all things egyptian. at least ancient egypt anyway. facinating!

have to laugh. some years ago I was playing a game...can't remember the name of it...with my mom, my sister, my brother-in-law and a few others. I think the object of the game was to come up with as many things as you can think of that fit a category. in this case the subject was egyptians. well, me being me every single one was from ancient egypt...ahkenatan, amenhotep, etc. I just kept rattling them off, and my BIL was floored...had no idea what on earth I was talking about. apparently the game was looking for more current egyptians. oops.

I had a trip scheduled when I first returned to college that was various areas in the middle east. When, due to instability they cancelled the Egyptian leg of the tour, I cancelled out of the trip. I read serious stuff and fun stuff. I can read a little bit of glyphs as well.

I, too, would LOVE to go visit the Pyramids and Sphynx, Jordan, that place they went in Luxor last night on AR (I'm blanking....), and so on, but the dangers keep me from going there right now. :(

And I, too, worry about terrorists destroying ancient monuments of any sort. :(

I still have my copy of the Egyptian Book of the Dead that I bought when I was in H.S. I love this book-fascinating reading:D

I've read a little bit about Egypt on my own. I think that the hieroglyphics are so interesting. They seem to parallel the ones in Mayan and Aztec cultures so closely. I love the pyramids and the Sphinx too.
