I know I know, everything's going to hell, but I'm sure some of us have had a good year!

Personally, this was my best year ever! So many great things have happened; graduated from college, moved to a new job, got a car, met someone special, done some traveling, so overall I am very thankful for this year!

I'm tired of all of the negative news: what were your highlights and accomplishments of 2008?

We had a pretty good year too. I have gone the entire year without a single cigarette, became a stay at home mom, took Boyfriend to Disney for his first trip ever. He got hooked too!!! We went up north for Thanksgiving. Got to see my family and his. Everyone is still healthy. His job was going to be shut down but they decided not to shut them down. He is military DOD. All in all a really good year.

My grandfather used to tell me, "Every day above ground is a good one!" So in that respect, I had an awesome year! :thumbsup2 Seriously, even with the hurricane, and some family issues, and life's normal ups and downs, I still had 365 days with my wonderful DS, a roof over my head, and food on the table. And even some Disney thrown in. Don't know what 2009 will bring, but I'll roll with it! :goodvibes

My DD was born in August 2007, so the highlight of 2008 was seeing her grow from a helpless infant to a charming little toddler. It amazes me how much I love her. Words can't begin to describe.

I wouldn't take back a minute of 2008!

I've had a pretty good year. We've had a lot of bad things happen....car wrecks, surgeries, unemployment....but a lot of great things too.

We got married this year so that has been the best thing yet! And he proposed at Disney World. What more could a girl want?

Screwy as it sounds, I had a lot of really terrible things happen this year - seeing my adult DD in a wheelchair and her being declared totally disabled; having health issues myself; the recent death of a very, very dear friend - yet somehow I still feel like it wasn't a "horrible" year.. Maybe because I know what really horrible can be..:confused3

I hope that 2009 will be better, but as long as it isn't any worse than 2008 (on a personal level), I'm good with that..:goodvibes

Life does go on - no matter what..;)

There is a lot of financial stress but in 2008 I graduated from college with honors, spent the summer working in Alaska, saw wolves, wildlife, and a landscape that took my breath away, moved to Orlando and had a few days at Disney with our college friends, and landed a job that allows me to interact with stingrays, birds, and eventually dolphins at one of the most beautiful parks in the area. There are reasons to consider I have a good life when it seems down.

Well, we bought our first house in 2008. It was a short sale that needed a lot of work. Even with the downturn in the prices, we still paid less than it's currently worth, so that's good. We're expecting our first baby. I got a promotion with a big raise and DH got a new job with lots of potential. Got to go on my dream trip to Disney (that will probably NEVER happen again with the kiddo coming). Overall, a really good year!

In many ways, I could view this as a bad year for me - my grandfather passed away unexpectedly, I had an ectopic pregnancy this summer, DH was hospitalized with kidney stones, it could have been better financially, etc.

However, overall I feel pretty happy about this year. There was a lot of good too. My brother and aunt both had beautiful, healthy babies. I got a new job that I really like. I am now pregnant with what is so far a healthy pregnancy. We are still able to pay our bills, live in our house, and even have some work done to update the house. I've spent a lot of good times with family and friends this year - even more than usual due to the changes in the family with people passing away, and the new babies.

I look forward to what 2009 has to bring! It's nice to read some good about this year, since so much of the news is filled with doom and gloom!

Both my DH and I didn't loose our jobs (we are both civil service), we can pay our bills and this will be our second trip to Disney this year. I think we've had a fantastic year compared to many others. I shouldn't have any complaints. I tell my husband at least once a week how truly blessed our family is. We have our health and are happy. Almost perfection; right?

2008 was great because we finally moved back to Utah, where I'm from, after being in Louisiana for nine years - and I wanted to move for all nine of those years! So it finally happening was a dream come true. Our house was on the market for 12 days and we made a profit from it despite the bad market. I was able to transfer with my company so I was never unemployed, and it only took DH a couple months to find his job. It fell right into place.

On the family front, our sweet DD turned 5 at the end of October and is healthy and charming and hilarious. And just two days ago we found out that we're expecting baby #2. 2008 has been a great year for us!

A new grandson was born in August and we're expecting another grand child early in 2009 -- that'll make 5! - There was no job loss or hospitalization. All-in-all, not a bad year!

OH - and we made three trips to WDW too.

What a wonderful thread to post. :goodvibes

No job losses so that is great! I am thankful that I am young enough that my 401K will hopefully come back before I retire. Gas has come down in price making it about $30-40 a week less to fill my 21 gallon tank on my mini van:cheer2: And best of all we have been planning a 2009 disney trip:thumbsup2

I had a good year too. Let me preface that with the fact that on January 12, 2008, I lost my mom to a long battle with breast cancer and Alzheimers. Its been the hardest thing I have gone through to date in my life. All that said, my kids are healthy, my husband and I are stronger than ever, he didn't lose his job or take any type of paycut (having been through that already, no news is good news on the job front as far as we are concerned) and I experienced a lot of love and support from friends. And found out that a few friends, weren't really friends at all, which I consider a positive thing in the end. So in essence, in spite of having been through the loss of my only living parent, I think it was a good year. And I think 2009 looks very promising.

I am glad to see so many others who may not have had perfect years but still find plenty of positives to enjoy.

May 2009 be that way for us all!

No one that I care about died--so yes, it was a very good year.

Our 2008 has been pretty good as well. We're hoping that continues into 2009 and beyond. There have been a few minor drawbacks, but we seem to be in a pretty good place mentally, financially, emotionally, etc. That's all we can ask for.

Ours started Aug of 2007 when we were relocated (DH works in MN, we moved to WI from Ohio)...His pay increased substantially. We sold our house in Ohio in June 08 (didn't make much on it, but after almost a year, we wanted to get rid of it), were able to pay off everything except the car and just bought a new house (were renting until the Ohio house sold, moved into our new house at the end of Sept 08)...

So far (keeping fingers crossed) his job is safe, mine is fine. No deaths or illnesses .

And thanks to gas prices going back down to managable levels, we are able to go back to Ohio for Christmas (had to cancel summer trip cuz gas was way to high) to see family and friends.

So yeah, for us 2008 was actually a pretty good year. WE finally have our finances under control and everyone is healthy and happy.

Although things were tight financially, we still have jobs and my husband's business is still growing and things are improving. My children are all healthy and I welcomed a new granddaughter in September. There have been no major illnesses in our families and we are enjoying our 2nd trip to WDW this weekend. I also celebrated 25yrs of marriage. Things could always be a little better but they could be so much worse!! We consider ourselves very lucky!!

I graduated from college in May; got my first tattoo in September; found out I was pregnant (my first) in October. Still trying to find that first house, but overall it's been a pretty exciting year! :thumbsup2
