Who else finds the value resorts completely unappealing?

I'm totally for staying in luxury. This is the way our family usually goes. However, with the free dining plan, we couldn't resist so we bit the bullet and booked a Value resort because it would be our fourth trip to WDW this year. Now realize that we are coming from Canada so it's much more expensive flying down so we figured if we really wanted another trip, we would have to go on budget as this is a TOTALLY unnecessary trip!! We just came back last week for goodness sakes!

I don't think we'll regret it but I don't think we will make a habit of it.

i'm a poly girl all the way but i'm trying asm for 1 nt in June then off to the beach i think my ds12 and dd5 will enjoy the toy story themes, but i'll see if it is even worth $99/night.
now POP has no interest in me and i no interest in that resort...

I stay at the values because they are affordable and I get to spend more money on other things!! They are confortable and way spend a ton of money when all I do is sleep there!!!

Moved from a the BC to AS Sports in May because of an unexpected change in travel plans. It was hard going from a deluxe to a value. I was a little sceeeved by some things. I saw something that looked like a large black bug on the carpet when we moved in. Did one of those squish it up in tp and flushed it. I didn't want to know what it was (but this IS FL). Anyway - if my kids were older and we were doing the commando style WDW vacation - I might consider it. I am a big fan of family vacations and I like the deluxes- but if that is what you can afford - go for the values - they are part of the magic!

Since our room is just a place we sleep and bathe I do not pay much attention and always go for the cheapest alternative, usually.

I like the AS/s and my favorite thing is that when I drag my weary bones in from the parks after a long day the bright decor acts as a night light should I have to find my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

My husband and I could afford, and have paid for in the past, a moderate resort or a deluxe. We cannot afford a moderate resort for our family and our childrens' friends that are joining us for this summer's trip. 3 of them. And our parents.

With that being said, we are staying a POP Century and we will have a great trip.

I think they have plenty of green grass and not too much concrete. I think for the small amount of time we'll be there and for the level of exhaustion we will probably be experiencing, we'll sleep just fine.

I know they will be clean, and the staff will treat us wonderfully.

We're going next week, can't wait, and we can have a great time anywhere in Disney World.

You people are depressing me! DH and I have made spur of the moment plans to travel to WDW in November with my family. We're trying to save as much money as possible and staying at Pop was the way to do it. We've stayed at all mods, this will be our first try at a value and I was pretty excited about it...where else are there Twister boards all around your hotel? Now, reading this post I'm wondering if we shouldn't try to save money and stay at another mod. Or maybe you're all just a bunch of hotel snobs! LOL! I know that we'll enjoy ourselves no matter what, how can you NOT have a good time at the happiest place on earth??? Plus, we're going the week after Thanksgiving...I doubt we'll have a problem with crowds at that time of the year! I hope you all have a magical day, even if you're having to endure the garrish sight of gigantic crayons and monster sized rubics cubes!!!

Seriously, chances are, Darling Nephews and Nieces will remember the gigantic crayons and monster sized rubics cube as much as the pool clown at BWV. Then again, poor Clown -- he's been the target of bad reviews as well

I wasn't ever really interested in any of the All Stars, but once Pop opened and everyone was raving about it we thought we'd stay there for something different. We stayed at our usual AKL this last time and visited Pop to check it out for the next time, but it was too motel-like for us. I did think the Mickey phone was cool though. My other big complaint is the lack of foliage...I know it's the theming, but it doesn't feel "vacation-y" to me without lush foliage.

I think I just didn't get that resort-saturated feeling like I do at AKL, WL, POR, etc. They are a great deal though, especially with the codes.

I think that the values are very nice! Yes, I would rather stay at WL or YC, but I'm sure anybody would! Infact, I'd rather stay at POP then SOG anyday! And POP has nice grounds! I love that you can just walk right out your door and play Twister. I can't say anything about the allstars though, because I was only six when I was there.

(that just struck me as odd. 10yrs old and you sure do type like an older person with all the abbreviations/etc. LOL)

Music wasn't bad to me when I was going solo (ie: wanted cheap as possible) but honestly we like staying at the Values. First off the kids like them but really it just has to do with what you WANT. For us- the room really means nothing more than a place to change clothes, take showers, and crash a few hours before hitting the parks again the next morning. THAT'S IT. Maybe when I get older (and my kids are no longer kids maybe?) I'll want to spend more time enjoying the resort room and ambiance and views from the room/etc.- but for now, that's all it is to us. We'd rather spend more money elsewhere and spend the least amount as possible on the room where we change, sleep and shower. LOL

I think that it is all a matter of personal opinion. DH and I don't have children, and we simply prefer subdued elegance over bright and oversized. We also don't like the outside rooms. We're staying at POR this fall, and I dread it so badly. We'd prefer to stay deluxe, or we stay at the Hilton at DTD (I usually get it for about $60 through Priceline...not too shabby)

That being said, however, I'm not crazy about ANY of the room decor at ANY resort in WDW. I think it's all rather loud and garish. I had high hopes for AKL, and when I saw that green and orange and pinkish colored bedspread...I wanted to vomit. Same thing with Grand Floridian and I've seen a room at the Beach Club...I think all the "decor" is rather schizophrenically thrown together...odd colors, patterns, etc. It doesn't look eclectic, but tacky, to me. We stayed at CSR last year for one night and I hated the loud colors there too.

I infinitely prefer the theming of the rooms at Universal Resorts. I also CANNOT wait for the new Contemporary Rooms. Those pictures...my idea of hotel heaven...seriously. They look SO swanky and plush. I am saving money now for next years' trip!

Here is a funny story,

While me and my family LOVE POP CENTURY. I realize it's not everyones cup of tea. We actually like it better then the two moderates we stayed at.

Now for the funny story:

Last August was our first stay at Pop Century and we took Mears from the airport to get there.

On our way down we were sitting next to a couple who had one son with them. He was about the same age as my daughter around 10. We were in the last couple of seats at the back of the bus. While we were approaching Pop Century the Women said Oh thank God we aren't staying there. I wouldn't be able to take it. How Gaudy. Me and My wife looked at each other and wanted to sink down in our seats - and when they announced the stop we were the only people on the bus staying there and we got up and felt so funny about it. We felt like the poor value people having to do the long walk from the back of the bus. I felt like everyone was saying, Oh those poor folks have to stay at this place.

Having said that, I am really into Pop Century and am staying there again this year. I personally don't spend too much time at the resort, so I can't see paying all that money if I'm not going to utilize all the ammenities.

It depends what you want out of a resort. I know that when I'm at Disney I don't really spend enough time at the hotel to really appreciate it. Also, some of us can only afford the Values (which I would much rather prefer than staying off-site) - for example, I'm a 20yr old Uni student from the UK. I could either have gone for fewer days at AKL or gone for longer while staying at ASMo, and seeing as I probably won't be able to go for a while after this year then I chose to go for longer.

Don't get me wrong - I eventually want to have stayed in EVERY Disney resort and I'm already planning which Deluxe I'll be staying at for my wedding, but it's just not possible right now.

With regards to tackiness...
I think that it's completely a matter of opinion. Someone who doesn't like Disney may find the idea of 'characters' wandering around the parks and Cinderella's Castle in Magic Kingdom 'tacky'. I think it's all kinda fun though

I have no interest in staying in a value resort. And with three kids, while I loved PO, I found it WAY too crowded. We are staying there 2 nights when we arrive, since we get in so late the first night, and then we check into the Poly for 8 nights (it does help the budget)

note: I would totally stay at a moderate longer with less people, like dh and I!

I would stay (and have stayed) offsite before I would stay at a value. We stayed at Vistana, Marriotts Grand Vista and Orange Lake. I actually like off site.....I like the space, the in room jacuzzi tub, the full kitchen (not that I cook, but for breakfast, keeping beer cold, and making margaritas and mudslides......my kind of cooking)

Garishness aside, I just really dislike the 'motel' layout. When I'm on vactation, I really like to have a balcony. Additionally, I like to get to my room through a lobby. I don't know why, I've just gotten used to that sort of thing and I like it. And I really dislike having your only window look out onto the walkway that is constantly filled with travelers moving in and out of their rooms, constantly moving by your window. So that rules out the values and I guess the moderates for me.

I know I know...MANY of you simply love those resorts, so this thread isn't for you (I can just see the angry throngs rushing to post in "defense" of these resorts).

The theming, the layout, the GIAGNTIC "icons", are just so unappealing to me in every way. Naturally if I was on a supertight budget, I'd bite the bullet and stay in one, but frankly I think I'd rather save more money and go when I could afford a mod (I love CBR, and POFQ). I think the "icons" look silly personally.

There must be others out there who feel this way. Tiny rooms, kids and crowds and tour groups everywhere. Who else isn't a "value" fan?

Some people like this (including me). Just don't stay there if you don't like it. I really don't see the point of a thread blasting this kind of resort. Not everyone has enough money to stay at a moderate and not everyone chooses to.

Don't lsiten to these people. Make up your own mind. I LOVE Pop and we will be staying there from now on. Disney is a fun place and I think the bright, colorful, huge props are a lot of fun.

I agree. Personally, I think the least appealing resort on WDW property is the GF. It reminds me of an elderly ladies living room.
