Who else does not like waiting at baggage claim?

I'm doomed to be paranoid at the baggage claim. We bought very dark hunter green luggage with the hopes that they would be easily spotted. It ends up that they just look black at the airport.

The first time we flew with them, I used these lime green ID tags just to add another thing to identify them with at a glance. As my first big bag comes out, I see a man take it!! Of course he was right at the beginning of the row. I run after him and tell him that it is my bag, and he insists that it is his. We look a the tag, and the paper in it with my name is gone!! Next we unzipped the bag, and it was indeed mine. Winds up that he really did have the same bags with the same lime green tags!:faint: He was really embarrassed, but now I always get to the front of the beginning of the line, and our bags sport these crazy purple granny bows. A matching bow is kept in my purse!:thumbsup2

... and the point she was making was that if you DID use DME, you could avoid doing something you dislike, waiting at baggage claim.
I realize the point she was trying make. Perhaps I should have we wait at baggage claim because after we visit WDW in December, we spend a week in Clearwater Beach & fly home from Tampa International Airport, so we obviously couldn't use DME from Tampa. Also the others who don't use DME are guests who stay off site & other guests who stay at WDW but choose not use it for their own reasons.

Waiting for luggage is like being stuck in traffic; there's nothing you can do except use the time to relax. Like others have said; get a coffee, use the restroom, take care of your rental car paperwork, etc., and remember you are only minutes away from WDW. :)

when you fly home, you clear customs in Canada, correct? and from some of your other threads it is pretty clear that you don't use Nexus.

So by the time you get through customs, your bags should be on the carousel, or at least the wait is very short.

Usually when I get my bag in Canada (after going through Nexus) no other passenger has even cleared customs yet.

There is no point fussing about something that you can't change. You may not like preclearing customs and immigration, waiting for your bags, or any of the other things one must do when travelling. Your options are to make the wait easier as we've all suggested, or don't travel.

Yes you are correct that when flying home we clear customs in Toronto & after that we have got to the baggage claim carousel the bags have not started comming out until 5-10 minutes later.

I don't think I was fussing about this because I do agree it's apart of air travel, however all I was asking is who else does not like to wait while at baggage claim, which is just a simple question.

As for the comments about DME, all I said was not every guest who stays at WDW uses it & guests who stay off site obviosuly can not use it. So I don't think I said anything wrong, because I stated true facts of people who would have to wait at baggage claim.

Also where did I say I don't like clearing customs & immigration? If it's that thread about Homeland Security needing a list of passngers comming into the United States, I did not know the whole reason behind it since we clear Customs in Toronto before entering the United States. Because of that thread, now I am more informed on the issue.

well, if you are worrying about a FIVE minute wait for luggage, I suggest that you learn to take SamSam's advice noted above.

I think from your posts that you are still in your teens - meaning that you have many years ahead of you in which you will encounter things that you simply cannot change.

Five minutes a few times a year isn't enough for me to get worked up about.... and I wait for luggage almost weekly.

For the record I am 21 years old, so I am out of my teens. I do realize that there are a lot things that I will encounter which I cannot change, however I still don't see the harm in posting about something because I may not like the wait at baggage claim. If we had better luck with our bags comming out faster, I would not mind it as much.

My apologies if I did not read your intention correctly on the thread that you referenced above - sometimes it is difficult to understand exactly what a poster means. I actually had to read your question several times, and I still wasn't quite certain what you were asking.

But I think that we all explained the benefits of preclearance to the US on that thread.

I get very nervous. I had a bad experience in Miami many years ago. We were flying Continental and DH got his bag and we were waiting and waiting for mine. DH went to check on it when we heard them paging us. He went to the counter and then motioned for me to come over. They brought out a box with most of my stuff in it. It seems my suitcase was totally obliterated in their system. Most of my clothes had these black greasy marks on them and some of my things were missing.

Ever since then I hold my breath until I see my suitcase.

Before this gets any more heated....I have to say that asking 'who else does not like waiting at baggage claim?' is sort of like asking 'who likes getting the common cold?'. No body particularly enjoys it....but, since it's a part of every day life, we just have to deal with it. If you fly, and don't want to wait for your bags, then either use only carryon, and pack very lightly, or ship your stuff ahead. There really isn't a better way to get all those bags off the plane and into our hands....at least I can't conceive of one at the moment. So, we all know it's there, we are going to have a wait. Go to the restroom, get a drink, stretch your legs and take your time getting to baggage claim. It's no different than worrying about the slowpokes in front of you when you want to get off the plane. It ain't gonna change.

Waiting at baggage claim doesn't really bother me. I know I didn't have to drag my suitcase through the airport, through the security checkpoint, put it up in the overhead and then wrestle it down on the airplane.

Very frequently my luggage is tagged priority but I think that means take it off the plane last. :)

Waiting for luggage is just part of the travel experience.

I don't like waiting for my bags any more than waiting to clear security, waiting for a traffic jam, waiting for my ADR etc. Waiting is part of life.

You picked an interesting wait to ask about. Guests flying into MCO and staying at a WDW resort don't have to wait at baggage claim. They can use DME. Guests who really don't want to wait at baggae claim don't have to.

There's always the option of taking only a carryon bag. I do it 9 out of 10 times that I travel. You just have to pick what is your personal lesser evil; waiting for bags, or wearing only what you can fit in a 20" bag for a few days, and perhaps paying a little more for sunscreen purchased onsite.

I can't really explain why - but waiting for bags to me is worse than other types of waiting.

Thinking this through - the initial wait doesn't bother me so much. But once the bags start comming, the wait for my bag just kills me. Is that my bag? No. Is that my bag? No. Is that my bag? No. Serious bummer.

Chiming in to say that for me, the wait to go through security is the worst. Surprisingly, since I'm not a patient person, baggage claim doesn't bother me. The only thing I really think about at baggage claim is "Boy, I hope nobody else tries to claim one of my bags."

well, i won't say i mind it, i mean overall the entire process does not take that long, and i mean afterall, we do need our bags. I am excited about this year, we are doing mini trips and over memorial weekend we go to niagara falls canada and will be doing carry on bags only
