to book your hotel rooms at Disney? Have you booked via the internet?

We are thinking about going this winter (celebrate my bday!!)...we would book our own flight (the closet airline to our house!).

Thanks!

This time around we are booking via Marlin travel so we can pay off the bulk of the package with Airmiles.

However usually we just book with Disney and get the CAA rate.

We book using Fairytale Dreams & Destinations, a Canadian Disney specialist travel agency. They are awesome!!! We wouldn't go to Disney World or Disneyland without booking through them now, nor would many people we know. They were recently recognized by Disney as the #1 Canadian Disney Specialist travel agency - for very good reasons :goodvibes

Have a fantastic trip and enjoy the planning!! :woohoo:

That's what we do and it is usually a fairly good rate.

We have also booked with FD&D twice now. Have done it on our own, and through CAA also. Definitely wouldn't do CAA again; if you use an agent, make sure it's a Disney specialist. (Lots at CAA in particular say they are, but if you know more than they do, that's a bad sign...) Sometimes you can do stuff online directly if you've booked it with Disney, but Disney sure won't tell you if there's a way to get a deal, or if there's a new promotion that applies to your trip. 6 of one, half dozen of the other; if you're watching all the time and enjoy the "homework", do it yourself. If you have a GOOD agent you trust, there's less to remember. (I have to say, I like booking with FD&D partially b/c they are a Cdn company...the commission may not be much, but I'd rather it give it to another Cdn.)

Hope that helps, good luck planning!

The one company is actually cheaper than WDW (when I called down there!)....not sure why, but whatever!

Looking at Coronado springs...looks good!

I am a TA so I use meeeee:lmao:

But before I was...I always did it myself directly w/Disney. I love the planning every little detail...and like to go straight to the source!

I used CAA and booked our flights ourselves bc my agent was on holiday when Westjet had a seatsale.

Next year I will book with Disney bc I find it hard to look up my reservation online without a Disney Res. #
I booked all my own ADR's.
The only perc CAA has is the Diamond card which gives you 10% off merchandise at Disney and the free Storytime
I'm constantly watching for better deals myself, I figure I would have to call CAA and let them know , they wouldn't call me.

Wondering what makes a Disney Specialist? Anyone can tell you they are. Any TA can do the Disney 'College of Knowledge' too. That's really not adequate either IMO.It's a no-brainer and completing that is certainly not enough to lay claim to the 'Specialist' tag. It has to be someone with a long history of staying at Disney--living, eating and breathing it. Familiar with all the Resorts first hand, Parks, Dining, Recreation, Shows and Events..and on and on. I doubt many of these 'Specialists' can claim really to have done it all outside of a book. :confused3

My 2 cents..

I always book direct with Disney via the website. Just be sure you click on Special offers first and know what offers and deals are out there. :) I enjoy doing the homework and planning myself.:surfweb:

I've booked online, through CAA and I prefer to book directly through Disney. That way I have access to my own reservation and can change things;).

We booked directly thru Disney. That way there's no middle man & I just deal with them. I always watch for the deals though. I have booked thru CAA once before & hated it. I like to be in control :) We also book our flights online usually.

My cousin is booked to go in Nov & they booked thru a travel agent. There's 11 of them going. When I saw the free dining was being offered then I emailed him. He then called his TA & then they got the deal. He was disappointed that the TA didn't catch it.

I agree with you. Just one more reason to appreciate the stellar services of FD&D, who do "live and breathe Disney" :goodvibes I know I've read many posts from people who went to an agency like CAA, for instance, and the agency's "Disney specialist" didn't know even basic things a real Disney specialist TA would know kwim? Doing some homework before you go to an agency is probably a good gauge of how much the agent actually knows before you book with them is surely a good idea. :thumbsup2

We normally book online through Disney website. We book way in advance due to using Airmiles to book flight. If any promos come up we simply call Disney and add them, they will do it and credit back the difference.

castle dining worth it?? (if we can get in)

Actually, not my favorite, but if you have little girls, the princess etc are probably worth it. We actually enjoy Chef Mickeys & Ohana's breakfast for character meals, and for non character it would be Coral Reef, Le Cellier and 50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi dine in.
