Hi folks!
i'm trying to sort out the insurance for our upcoming trip and i'm sure its a lot more expensive than when we went a couple of years ago! i'm looking for a company with fairly low excess (ideally no more than £150) that stills provides a decent amount of cover for cancellation/medical etc. Any recommendations?

I have M&S Premium cover, you choose the excess Zero, £50 or £100.
They also do a cheaper policy but Premium cost us about £150 (after £8 quidco) for 12 month cover.
There are cheaper policies, I was with Insure & Go last year but they would not pay my claim when stuck with the ash cloud.
Insurance is a minefield, you never know how good it is til you try claim.

I've actually gone with Insure and go because I tried Columbus Direct and they don't cover volcanos etc without an extra 'emergency cover' but (surprising considering what wayneg just said) I&G have promised that they now cover volcanos. Maybe they got caught out last year. I made them swear to it 3 times on the phone after being caught out by Columbus and having to cancel with them.

I had a a quote from "More Than" the other day. Think it was £132.00 for annual worldwide for the 4 of us with zero excess. I'm waiting for the quote to come in the post.

I have been looking on internet for last hour for travel insurance and came on to Dis to ask the same question. I am struggling a bit as my hubbie has hypertension and takes 3 different types of medication but some insurers will only insure people on 2 types of medication. I am finding insurance much dearer than last time I needed it. He is insured through his work for business travel but not holidays.

thanks for your help everyone! i'll shop around them :goodvibes

I used Direct Travel last year. Cost £60 ish for DD and I single trip premium cover and there was 17.5% cash back on Quidco and on Topcashback. Haven't checked what it is currently but they were covering ash cloud at the time

Last year I used Boots travel insurance. I have to be careful who we go with as my DH has (controlled) epilepsy.
We didn't have to claim on it - we travelled just after the ash cloud but you do get Boots advantage card points! :)

I have hypertension but I only take one tablet. Insure & Go covered me on that tablet for £64 for the year (multitrip) and that was with the legal cover extra add on. Might be worth checking. They were one of the cheapest I could find by quite a bit. I went with AA last year but now they don't cover volcanos and they wanted £120 for the rest.

We went with Essential Travel on their Worldwide inc USA, Annual, Superior for the whole family £86.99. We will always stick with them until the costs are too high. Covers schedule airline and holiday company failure as we book independently worth us having.

We have had to claim twice once in Celebration A&E when DD ran into the kitchen counter top and had a cut above her eye and another when both developed high temperatures and we went to the walk in centra-care in Formosa Gardens.

Both times we have made a call, they called me back, sent a fax to where we were going and that was it! Both times the emergency line called us the next day to see how we were. At the time, priceless!

DW has just reminded me that we were also with them when she had a miscarriage and the process of getting cancellation money back was easy and one less thing to worry about.

We have used insure and go for the last couple of years, if you go through moneysupermarket it's cheaper than direct from their site.
