Who ditched AOL and...

I tried cancelling my Compuserve account (was $21.95) because we have cable (Adelphia). The phone rep talked me into keeping it as a backup for $6.95 a month (I'm such a sucker), plus I got the first 3 months free. I love the cable modem (with my package it ends up being cheaper than dial-up), would never be able to deal with dial-up again, it made me lose my Jimmy Buffett tickets in 2003!

As far as why some people get different rates with AOL on BYOA. AOL "partners" with some cable companies. They partner with Comcast. They told me that if I got AOL Broadband with Comcast, I would get a $14.95 deduction on my Comcast bill and pay AOL $9.95. I'm sure it is different for each provider. I don't think AOL partners with COX, so those people would have to pay their full cable bill plus the full price for the AOL service which can be anywhere from $14.95 to $23.90 depending if you get premium or regular. It was so confusing to me, I told the representative that I couldn't figure out any of what she was saying and to just cancel me.

Interesting! AOL is anywhere between $14.95 and $23.90?  Figures I'm paying $23.90! (What is BYOA?)

Confusing! Yes! I had called AOL a few months back when I was having a problem. She kept asking me if I wanted Broadband I think. I have NO CLUE what Broadband is. Told her that. And I still didn't get it as she rambled on. Her accent didn't help either. I told her just leave it the way it is.

BYOA is Bring Your Own Access. In other words, you aren't dialing into their servers to connect to the Internet.

I used to have the $23.95 AOL dialup unlimited plan. Then I got a cable modem through Comcast. Now, when I connect, it's through the cable modem, so I have my own access to the Net. I pay $14.95 to AOL for BYOA.

I didn't know AOL partnered with Comcast - looks like I'll have to make a phone call and ask for my discount! :p

Yesterday I sent an e-mail to Verizon because I have the worst trouble paying my bill online with them. No matter how many times I change my password, it doesn't let me in. I'm about ready to drop Verizon for my phone and head to Cox. Don't know if they're much better. Any way, I got an e-mail back from Verizon. They're only suggestion was to close my browser after changing the password and then go in again. Tried that too and it still doesn't work. :(

The main point in their e-mail was DSL. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I went through this with them when I initially got the phone service. No, I don't want DSL!! And they're saying they would charge me $29.95 a month...$5 a month off their regular price. Regular price is $34.95 a month? :earseek: And they said that would include MSN at an additional $9.95 a month. :earseek: AOL is sounding good at $23.90!! I don't need it to go zipping through. I'm patient. :)

I switched from unlimited AOL to comcast, now have verizon. but my point with aol is, i pay $4.95 for 3 hrs. a month. With "aol anywhere" you can get your mail at aol.com without being charged usage time. That 4.95 price includes the broadband version. If i am going on vacation in a particular month, i will switch to unlimited so that i can dial up while on vacation and not worry how long i am connected.

Wow! I'm surprised at how many different "plans" there are with them.

I had aol back in 96 or so ,never again,i switched to comcast cable and ill never go back to dial up again.Between the extra phone line and aol, your paying almost what cable modem is,now i know some people cant get cable internet but once you try it youll never go back. When i canceled aol they tried so hard for me to stay 6 months at 9.95 they offered,no thanks you suck.
