who did the paint cans? UPDATE w/pics post#35

buffy~ you're the bomb!!!!! thank you so much!!!! i am going to try to work on this soon, because i don't want to be last minute. and if it comes out good, then i know i can do it for xmas gifts. last year i started to think about it way to late and never got the chance to try it.
i can't thank you enough for all the pics, answers and directions.

Wow, I have to dig out the cans I bought last year. These are so cool. I made 1 last year and gave it to a really good friend. I made the little can, and put in a punch that we had been looking for that I was able to score on ebay. I looped ribbon through the key, and stuck it to the inside with a few big glue dots...worked great...the can could still close, but the key was attached...

I just wanted to add a few ideas I have used for the altered cans. I always give gift cert. at xmas to my nieces. That gets a little boring so I did a small paint can with their initials and put the card inside. They use the cans for secret things now. I went to a kitchen shower and I filled the large can with jars of spices that are commonly used. She is a little short on cupboard space so she leaves the can on the counter to store the ones she uses the most. I decorated it in her kitchen colors.
These are so much fun to make and give.

well i did my 1st one today. once you get it down i think it will go smoothly. i made this one for my 16 year old nephew who plays the guitar. we bought him a gift certificate for christmas to the guitar store, but wanted to do something more than just hand it to him. i thought i would fill it with hershey kisses and his g.c. in the middle. it is the quart size one. hopefully i'll get to my gallon one later tonight or 1st thing in the am.
so here goes..... let me know what you all think.....

one more thing,
that strip that has his name is really a light gray to match the words on the ribbon, but for some reason it looks white in the pics.

thanks guys!!!!! i got a little stressed a few times, but now that it's all done i think it looks ok!
now the trick is going to be how do to the big one with the handle!!!! i called my SIL and asked her what BIL fav color was. (did not say what we were doing, just what is his fav color) she says blue. ok so off to michaels i go. i buy all kinds of blue paper, ribbon, stickers the whole nine yards. in the mean time, ds (who is still VERY sick with his strep~ i'm thinkin' i'm calling the dr in the am because he still has a fever~ another whole story in itself) calls bil and leaves a message for him to call him back. fast forward to tonight ~ bil calls and i tell him ds is sleeping but while i have him on the phone, just wanted to verify that your fav color is blue right!? NO! my fav color is red is his reply!!!!!! so i said, well it's gonna have to be blue as far as i'm concerned!!!!!
sorry so long. just had to vent about that!

anywho-thanks again for the kind words.

ok i managed to make the gallon size one today for my bil.

i think i'm going to make this size for ds teacher for xmas.

That came out beautiful! I did a paint can for a swap at CKU and the holes for the handle were hit and miss but I was happy with it. I got a beautiful one back too.

I think my niece is getting a pricess one for Christmas with her present (a ticket for her mom and I to take her in January)
