Dopey Training Week 1 (so far):

✅ Monday: rest

✅ Tuesday: 2 miles LR
Treadmill. Did one of Ashley Paulson's build-your-endurance 30-minute workouts instead of intervals. I also received my Brooks Ghost Max Air and LOOOOOOOVE them! Still a little PF soreness in the morning.

✅ Wednesday: 2 miles LR
Treadmill. Finished the build-your-endurance 29-workout series - YAY! Still loving the Brooks. Little to no PF issues.

✅ Thursday: Strength or cross train
Did one of the free weight/kettle bell workouts from my old trainer.

✅ Friday: 2 miles LR (also driving 3.5 hrs to Boston that afternoon)
Treadmill. Watched the Olympic bronze medal archery match while doing my 60/30 intervals. Felt a bit fast but not difficult until the last few run intervals. I'll pay more attention next time. I ran in the Brooks again. I have been nervous to rotate the Topos back in but will do so next week assuming the PF feels good and solid.

I'm posting early to keep myself accountable for these:
❔ Saturday: 3 miles LR (in Boston)
❔ Sunday: 3 miles M pace (driving home)

I've packed for the trip even though including my running gear meant taking a larger suitcase than I really wanted. I'm determined to get those miles in tomorrow at the hotel or in downtown Boston if the weather permits. We don't have any solid plans until our evening show, so no excuses! We are coming home early enough Sunday for me to do that run here at home.

Dopey Training Week 1 (update):

When we last left, I was heading to Boston for the weekend, looking at these two runs. The results....
✅ Saturday: 3 miles LR (in Boston)
We drove down Friday evening, went to dinner and got settled in the hotel. Saturday we had no specific plans until our evening show. We slept in a bit, grabbed coffee and a breakfast sandwich at a local place near Boston Common, and lingered just long enough for the sun to get high and the humidity to make things uncomfortable. So I retreated to the empty hotel gym and watched the USA/Japan women's soccer match as I got my easy run in.

We found a fabulous seafood place for a late lunch near the harbor and greatly enjoyed our show: Kristen Chenoweth and F Murray Abraham in The Queen of Versailles (a Stephen Schwartz musical based on the documentary) -- coming to Broadway next year and I highly recommend!

0️⃣ Sunday: 3 miles M pace (driving home)
::sigh:: Getting home was like a comedy of errors.
tl;dr It took many hours longer than planned and then power went out in a massive storm, so no treadmill and not safe to run outside. Keep reading if you want details.

We had planned to time our drive back home to hit the Le Creuset outlet and DH's fav Scotch shop when they opened, then stop for lunch and get home around 2:30-3.

We slept in a bit, grabbed a local coffee, came back and packed, went down to get the car and were told it would be 30 minutes! Ugh. Fine. Finally get the car back, get to the area with the Le Creuset outlet and traffic is crazy. No parking anywhere. DH drops me off while he loops the block. THE STORE IS CLOSED! No hours posted, but I had checked their site and Google and the hours were supposed to be 11-4. NOPE! We've been cooking a lot more since our move last year and decided to invest in a few really great pieces and I had really been looking forward to this stop. DH picked me up on the way to his Scotch stop I found a Williams-Sonoma on our drive home. Probably not the same deals as the outlet, but it was open at least.

Scotch purchased, we stopped for lunch and got to W-S 30 minutes up the road at about 2pm. We were able to find what we wanted, though DH's OCD would not allow for mix-and-match colors, so we ordered a few things as well. (I seriously want to send my receipts to the LC outlet with the "big mistake... huge!" gif from Pretty Woman.) It was raining by now, so we hurried to the car with the two pieces they had in stock. As we detoured for gas and a Starbucks drive-thru, I noticed the receipt had the wrong size on one item. I checked the box and sure enough, they'd given us the wrong thing. So back to W-S we went. They returned the item but had to order the right one. ::sigh::

My one prize that I got to take home:

Finally we were on the road and it started POURING rain. What normally takes us about 2 hours from that point was almost 3, and we finally got home at 5:45pm. Unload the car, feed the cats, change into running clothes and BAM -- power is out. I'm starting to feel cursed at this point. Though we have a backup battery, not knowing how long the power was going to be out I didn't want to use up 20% of it on the treadmill, so I finally tossed in the towel.

SO NOW WHAT?
More in the next post...

I know normally you'd just chalk up that missed run yesterday and move on, but I have this weird week coming up. Knowing how much I'll be walking between the D23 expo hall and the parks, I don't feel I'll lose much momentum this early in the plan. BUT I'm super tempted today to do that 3 mile run at M pace that I wasn't able to do yesterday. Thoughts??

I had time this afternoon, so I cranked out my 3 miles at M pace from yesterday. There, I feel better!

Did you try to hit up the Le Creuset outlet at Assembly Row in Somerville? It's a short walk from my daughter's house (and several good coffee shops....and a Mike's Pastry if you happen to need a cannoli....and even a good running path!)

Given you are so early in your training, doing the 3 mi was probably a good call for "head" reasons if nothing else. Not sure so much if it had been longer followed the next day with a long run. Have fun at D23!

YES that is the one we went to! We usually stay in that area but were over near the Common to be close to the show, so we made a special trip and everything. I was SO mad to walk up to find it dark and locked up. UGH!

I have had a cannoli at Mike's -- yum!

And yes, I agree that the 3 miles was more about keeping me mentally on track. Very glad I did it!

A Le Creuset outlet? I would get in so much trouble there.

I was hoping to! I'm kind of new to the whole cooking thing and we were finally ready to invest in some nice cookware.

Story time if anyone cares for the background...
DH and I never cooked much for the last 20+ years. We lived in a city, right downtown in the middle of a ton of great restaurants and worked long hours. We went out ALL the time, even during Covid. But when we moved to Vermont and out in the country, we knew we had to start cooking more. So we signed up for Hello Fresh, thinking it would be a bridge to take us to cooking for ourselves. It definitely has been, but we also still really like the options and quality of ingredients, so we get a box every other week and supplement with the amazing farm share veggies and fresh small farm proteins available here.

But in our year of cooking most meals at home, we've worn out our meager selection of pots and pans, we know what we use and what we need, and we are ready to invest in something that will really last. I did my research and made a wish list of Le Creuset items that we were going to buy, and it wasn't a short one! Thankfully Williams-Sonoma had the bulk of them, though we did order to get the right color for most of them. I wasn't kidding when I said I want to march into that outlet next time we're there (assuming it's open) with my receipt and make a scene ala Pretty Woman!

My aunt got me two Le Creuset pots when I bought my first house in 2008. I still have them and use them often. I also got a special edition Darth Vader Dutch oven for Christmas in 2016 and it’s still in great shape. I really should splurge for some pans and casseroles and get rid of all the crap.

I found Le Creuset at HomeGoods about a year ago, and it was still too $$$ for me. Costco was selling like 87 piece sets last year too for like $5k. But that included a bunch of utensils.

As I make my way to Anaheim, I thought I'd do a check in before things get crazy.

Dopey Training Week 2

✅ Monday:
rest 3 miles M tempo
This was meant to be Sunday but... so I went ahead and did it Monday.

✅ Tuesday: 2 miles LR
I finally rotated the Topos back in. Felt OK during the run, but that night and next morning some mild PF pain returned. Damn! I guess it was the shoes. I'm going to find another pair of Ghost Max while the old model is still on sale and available.

✅ Wednesday: Strength training
Nothing to report.

Even though it's early, it does feel good not to have missed any workouts. And since I ended up taking my biggest suitcase for costumes, Disney Dress Shop outfits and potential goodies I'll be taking home, I went ahead and tossed in my running gear. Just in case.

My D23 plan...
Thursday: Fly in. Disneyland.
I left my house at 3:45am Eastern and land in LA at noon Pacific. I do have a DL park reservation, though I'll miss most of the D23 Day activities. I've got late lunch/ early dinner booked at Carnation Cafe assuming I'm awake.

Friday: Day 1, Muppet panel. Honda Center. Wardrobe: Orange Bird dress.

I'm a bit terrified that the shopping VQ window opens at 4am and they're allowing people to line up at the entrance at 5am (it opens at 9). I don't need to be there until noon for my panel, so I've got a res at Great Maple for 8:45 and I'll wander over after I'm done. This is my first expo so I'll just see where the day takes me.

Saturday: Day 2, tbd except Honda Center. Wardrobe: Steampunk Merida costume.
I've got no set plans, but I do want to catch the cosplay meetup photo if I can. I've got backup park reservations each day but the costume will make that tricky on Saturday.

Sunday: Day 3, tbd except Honda Center. Redeye flight home. Wardrobe: Her Universe top and skirt set with the Hercules Muses.
I'll get kicked out of the hotel in the afternoon (fingers crossed for late checkout), but the panel that night is Legends and it starts at 5. I'll need to get back, change, and get my bags checked at the desk before I go. May grab a park dinner before I head to LAX. Thankfully I was able to upgrade and the plane has lie flat seats!

I'll try to post some over the event if it isn't too crazy.

I definitely want to see the Steam punk Merida costume! I love her universe I have that muse set as well. I hope you have a great time

We have 2 Le Creuset dutch ovens that we LOVE. I have a wish list of other items I want to buy, but they'll have to wait until we redo our kitchen, since we have no room right now.

If you're in the market for quality cookware, I'd also highly recommend the All Clad d5 line. We've had ours for 10 years, and I absolutely love it. We use bar keepers friend every once in a while, and they look brand new still. I doubt we'll ever need to buy new cookware, other than additional items to supplement what we have.
