Hiya :wave2:

When my DF proposed on valentines day he had the ring already.

This was a pre-specified condition from me mentioned in hyperthetical discussions.

I know some people like to choose the ring together after the proposal but I had long since decided that if I was going to commit to my DF for life then he should at least be able to select my dream engagement ring! Which I am pleased to say he did.
(I will post a picture on the ring picture thread asap)

What about you? Who chose yours?

We went looking one time before the proposal but he picked out the ring on his own and had it when he proposed.

It's perfect!! :love2:

My DH picked out my ring. I had no idea he had any ideas of getting engaged. It was a huge suprise and I love it.

DH and I picked out the setting together. He went back by himself to choose the center stone. All the ring choices would’ve overwhelmed DH! :teeth:

My DH knew what I liked, I had showed him in magazines almost a year before we engaged (he kept the magazine all that time). He chose the ring, which was more then I ever could have hoped for... I had no idea I was getting engaged when I did.

We picked it out together. Well, it was more me showing him what I wanted and asking him if he liked it. ;)

I have to say that mine is driving me CRAZY!! And, I think he likes it. He wants to pick it out himself and propose to me at some unspecified time. I think he has control issues =) I know it is going to be sometime this year, but the wait is driving me insane!! I guess I just want to be one step closer to spending my life with him! Well him and Mickey...hard choices I tell you.

We sort of picked it out together. We (well, I - DH just got dragged along!) started looking about a year before we actually got engaged. After a lot of looking, I had my heart set on one ring, but had told DH that I wanted my second choice, because I knew the one I really wanted was too expensive. When he proposed and gave me my ring, I was SHOCKED to see he had gotten me my dream ring!

DF & I had a 'plan'

Buy a house (which we did in oct '05)(still renovating tho' so not living together yet)

Get engaged

Get married

Seems so simple doesnt it? Time wise on our plan there was going to be 6-12 months between each stage.
Because we havn't moved into our house yet and are both at home with parents I did wonder when the 6-12 month timescale would begin, when we bought the house or when we moved in. I decided this decision was up to Dbf and I would simply wait and see but secretly I did think that it would be either our first night in our house or on my birthday in Sepember or our anniversary on xmas eve. Dbf has other plans! and proposed on Valentines day, I suspect he had realised my thoughts and wanted it to be a surprise and as my suspect dates were so varied throughout the year he was limited on time plus I always said getting engaged on valentines day was cheesy and therefore could not have been more surprised when he did it then! Which is exactly what he was hoping for.

I found my ring in a jewelry store called Bailey Banks and Biddle. For about a year every time we went to the mall I would visit my ring. I did it so often that we're now friends with the jeweler! So he knew which one I wanted, but I didn't know he bought it for me. He picked out the stone by himself and I have to say he did a very good job. :thewave:

My DH chose my engagement ring-he knew what I liked and what my style was-he chose a ring that I absolutely love. I would have chosen the same thing for myself! :cloud9:

My husband chose my ring. He knows I liked simple rings and wanted a solitaire, but he knew I didn't want the traditional round cut. My fingers are long and pretty thin, so anything "bulky", no matter how beautiful I think the ring is, wouldn't look right on me. He never told me that he was looking for rings. I knew we'd get married, but never discussed any upcoming engagement, so he was totally on his own. He wound up picking a pear-cut diamond solitaire. I absolutely love it. He said he purposely picked the pear cut because it's not seen as often as the other cuts, and he wanted something more unique for me. He did a wonderful job!!

We had talked about it a lot and I had designed my perfect ring on www.bluenile.com. My fiance had asked me to do this b/c he didn't want to pick out something I didn't like and then have me wear it for the rest of my life. He ended up going to the jeweller and asking if he could get the setting from one ring and the diamond from another so that he could create my perfect ring and it worked! I was completely surprised when he proposed at Disney and the ring is perfect, I couldn't have picked a better one myself!

My bf is in the army & was stationed at Ft Drum, NY. He got notice he was being deployed to S Korea for a year starting on 02-15-05. A week before he left he drove his truck & belongings to his parents house in Texas. There I was back in NY. Missed him so much before he left that I flew to Texas to suprise him, spent the best 3 days with him (one of which was Valentine's Day). He proposed on Vday the day before he left...didn't have a ring. He asked me what kind of ring I wanted & I emailed him a few ideas. Last month I was coming home from work, talking to him on the phone & got a package on my porch. It was my engagement ring! He had hoped to give it to me in person but that won't happen until he comes home for MidTour Leave. It's very special to me though. I keep telling him he still has to get down on 1 knee & he said he can't wait. Ohhh I miss him!

Thats a lovely story Katie, The surprise of having your ring on your porch!

DH picked a small diamond to "surprise" me with the proposal on the anniversay of the date we met.

Then a few months later, DH, myself, and a few family members (Mom, Aunt, and Uncle) decided to go to Jeweler's Row (in Philly) and pick out an engagement ring for me and both our wedding rings. I love my rings. It was a nice family day. We took my Aunt and Uncle with us because they were the "jewelry experts" of the family and knew when they saw a good price.

After 5 years of marriage and 1 year of engagement, I only wear this ring on special occassions. I wear a plain gold band for everyday, my DH does this too. Between the two of us we both have plain gold bands, diamond/gold rings, silver claddaghs, and he has a silver band and I have a white gold/diamond set that belonged to my Mom-Mom(2nd marriage). I also have my Mom-Mom's first wedding band, but it needs to be sized which I never got around to do doing.

I know some people like to "trade up" their diamonds, but I can't for some reason...so now I have 3 diamond rings. I'm wanting a diamond/platinum set for my 10th anniversary....we'll see! :cool1:

We had looked a few times for fun but when the time came I took him to a jeweler my grandparents always used. We looked at stones together and picked one out. Then looked at bands, I wanted simple. The one I liked wasn't available without a stone in it. The jeweler had the band custom made and it was perfect. I didn't know when I'd get it but hoped it would be ready for our trip to Disney. It was and Rick made me wait until dinner at Shula's to give it to me LOL!

My husband and I went browsing for rings together-- I had a certain style in mind, so I tried on a bunch of them while I was with him, so that he knew exactly what I wanted. ;)

Then he went out and bought one on his own, and it's perfect. :teeth:

My DH picked it out all on his own. He knew I like thinks sweet 7 simple so he got me a princess cut diamond with small siamond on the side! He did Good!princess:

My fiance had just gotten out of basic and advanced training for the ARMY and found out he'd be leaving for Iraq a month later so the week before he left he came up to school to visit with me. We picked out a classic solitaire princess cut that I loved and since I had always wanted diamonds all around the sides when he came for his two week leave we had the diamond remounted with stones all along the sides. So, I really picked it out and it's just so beautiful and always makes me smile :) We're also using it as my wedding band because I didn't want two bands at this time in my life. Hopefully later on if we have a vow renewal down the road we will get a band
