Who chose your engagement ring?

DH2B and I were in Memphis for a weekend trip when he randomly decided to take me into a local jewelry store and asked them where they kept engagement rings. My mouth almost dropped to the floor. We picked out a simple round cut solitaire, with a wedding band that has two diamonds that will wrap around it. But DH2B took 4 months after that to pop the question, I thought I was going to have to ask him, I was starting to go nuts!

He picked it out all on his own! I told him that I'd really like something NOT in yellow gold, Princess cut, and not less than 1/2 carat. He bought me a white gold, Princess cut, 2 carat diamond in a Gorgeous setting! I just LOVE  it!!

We went shopping together and I picked the setting and he picked the stones. I was a little suprised because we were out and decided to go look just for fun. So was I ever suprised when he said "we'll take it". We had purchased a house and been living together for 2 years and I knew a wedding was coming but it was still shocking. He made me wait several months before he actually proposed though.

About 2 months before we got engaged, DW and I went to the nearest jewelers, looked at some rings (for ideas of what she liked), and got her ring finger size.

My best friend and his (then) girlfriend, now wife, traveled down here from Mt. Pleasant. The women went out to eat and shopping, while my friend (who had a few gemology classes at college) and I went looking for DW's ring.

We had a conversation about what should happen when we got engaged - I have friends who decided to get negaged on their anniversary - went out and picked the ring and then waited for the day for her to wear it - personally we both agreed this was odd - surely at the point you say lets get engaged - you're engaged!

Anyway we agreed we'd get married at some point, and that when my DH2B proposed it had to be a surprise, but then we'd choose the ring together after as I had no idea what I wanted.

Every special occasion, like anniversarys and moving in date anniversarys I hoped but then he just sprung it on me one night while we were watching tv! Said he was meant to be waiting for my birthday 2 weeks later but wanted to surprise me...

We went and picked the ring the next day - it wasn't ready for two weeks so we got a cheap silver one for me to wear until it arrived so I could share the news with people :0) I now wear that on my other hand so I have two e rings...

my DF picked it out all by his lonesome....with some gentle pointing in the right direction from me....

since we met online and "talked" for a couple months before we actually met, i was able to share the ring from tiffany's that i just adored...

he got me one that i adore even more....beautiful, gold, a solitaire, a "hearts on fire" diamond...and from a local store that i can go into and have them shine it whenever i want!

what more could a girl ask for?

My FI picked out the ring mostly by himself. He did have a little help from his sister and her friend. He knew two things - that I always liked the style of his sister's ring and that I love platinum. His sister was there for some advice. I'm so glad she was there because she helped him pick out a beautiful ring!! :goodvibes I absolutely love it!! It's exactly what I wanted!!!

we went and looked at rings and he knew what I liked, even went so far as to write down the ring model # and then went back when he was ready to ask me :)

we actually just ordered our wedding bands a couple weeks ago, I can't wait...less than 6 weeks!!!

lol My DH is what our guy friends called a "Lucky Dog." :rotfl2:

Basically my family has a long history of passing along 2 specific diamonds (both hearts) through our generations (that way the mother doesn't have to give her stone up for her daughter, but to her granddaughter-make sense?) and this has been going on since the early 1800's. So basically, my DH was ring shopping for me, and a mutual friend of ours clued him on the fact that he didn't need to ring shop since I would appreciate the family heirloom my mother and father had waiting for me more than a newly store bought one. Thus the term "Lucky Dog" since he didn't have to buy a new one!

After that conversation he was probably doing this.

So basically he proposed, and asked valiantly if I would like to pick out my band with him. lol So I helped him pick out a band for it, but my 6th great grandfather did the work of picking out the stone for him already. ;) DH says my great grandfather is now on his "Favorite Person" list. :rotfl:

Because I am so picky and my boyfriend wants me to be happy I was able to choose the setting and he is choosing the stone. I cant wait to see what he chose! :Pinkbounc
