Did you ever get to where you just don't care anymore about much of anything. Work, interests...you'd rather just sit in your house propped in front of the tv by yourself.

For me this is always a tough time of year. The mild weather has been helping tho as I am able to get outside more - fresh air and sunshine.

But whenever I say things like that to my dr. he is always trying to put me on antidepressants.

Hope things get better for you!

Sounds like depression. Google 'depression quiz' and take it to see if it's something you need to discuss with your Dr.

sometimes I do which is why I hate the winter time. I read somewhere that people can get the winter time blues and how it has something to do with the sun. Does this happen to you quite often?

I was thinking depression too. It happens to my husband at this time every year (also in PA). Its called Seasonal Affective Disorder triggered by a lack of sunlight like you'd get over the summer. It can range from just the winter blues to all out depression. Treatment options include going for more walks, especially in the morning, and using full spectrum lights to simulate the outside. We just outfitted our whole house in full spectrum lights so hopefully that will help him.

Have you ever seen the commercial with the bouncing ball who is sad, and then he takes some drug and then he is happy? Every year DH sees that ad and says "I wish I could be the happy bouncing ball," but of course he refuses to see a doctor.

If you are like him and don't like to get help, I'd recommend the walks and lights.

sometimes! - especially at this time of year, I can usually use a day or two like that. It is good to disconnect and take some real quality down time to renew your attitude and energy. If yours is more than that I would take others suggestions and look into the possibility of it being depression!:)

I have S.A.D. It's really difficult to get through. :( I hope you perk up soon!

When it comes to that, I get in my car and open my sunroof no matter how cold but no rain and I turn my fav music up real loud and drive to anywhere. I have went through many tanks of gas in the past year doing this but it does help just to get out and be. That usually helps me, well and a milkshake from chick fila ;) hope you feel better soon

I feel this way right now...I have so many unhappy things happening right now. I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel...it just seems so far away, though.

You sound like you have SAD to me as well. SAD can affect anyone but generally hits between the ages of 18 and 30. It starts building in Sept/Oct and usually goes through until April with Dec/Jan/Feb being the worst months. I have it and it is NOT fun to go through!

I'd suggest talking to a doctor about getting anti depressants or light therapy. We bought a light at Costco a few years ago and when it gets dark outside I sit in front of it for 20 min. It really almost gives me and dh a feeling of euphoria when we sit with it.

This website has what it is and symptoms. See if you have any of them.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've been feeling like this alot even in summer. I think a lot has to do with the sameness of things, especially my dh's medical problems. How long can you keep telling someone that it'll get better. After 20 years or so, I don't think it will, it'll just keep getting worse. I don't even feel like thinking anymore.

OP I really think you need to see a doctor or a counselor. You sound like I did before Anti-depressants! There is no need for you to feel this way for this long. There are medications that can help you so that you can at least feel like you can care about something.

I had a hard time admitting I needed a pill to make me feel better. I felt I was weak and I fought for years to stay off of the pills. Now that I'm on them I feel more like myself but the winter time is so long and so depressing so I added the light therapy.

Please if possible see a doctor or a counselor or both and see if they can help you out of the "funk".

Here is a :grouphug: for you and for your DH as well. I hope things get better!

This happens to me sometimes and S.A.D. is a component. I make myself get dressed and leave the house. This always makes me feel better but it can be hard.

This is what I have too. The sun this time of year gives off a different light and causes this. I am sure the holidays being over are part of it too. I learned to deal with it by keeping busy. Hope you feel better soon!

I have been feeling this way too, so I bought a bigger tv:happytv:
