My MIL is 49, OK to 67 and has a bad knee. Can we rent a motorized cart for her? Do you need to reserve it? How much do they cost? Are they a pain to use? Any info is appreciated.

Yes, you can rent a motorized cart for her, although there are a limited number available. If you go late in the day, you may end up with a wheelchair instead.

Wheelchair rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Rental wheelchairs may not be transferred from Park to Park.

A limited number of Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECVs) are also available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests must be 18 years of age or older to rent ECVs, and quantities are limited. Guests should plan to arrive early. ECVs are available only on a same-day basis and may only be used in the Park where they are rented. ECVs will be held if Guests wish to leave and return to the same Park.

Guests planning to visit more than one Park on the same day should retain their wheelchair deposit ticket from the first Park they visit. This will enable them to obtain a replacement wheelchair or ECV on the same day, if available, at the next Park with no additional charge. NOTE: Wheelchairs or ECVs may not be available at the second Park.

Price: $7.00 rental + 1.00 deposit (wheelchairs); $30.00 rental + $10.00 key deposit (ECVs)

check the DISabilities board... you'll get some names of trusted private companies to rent as well as LOTS of great tips on this subject. One is Walker Medical Supply. We rented from Discount Mobility America. Dh broke his foot right before our trip in March. They drop the ECV off right at the baggage holding area for your hotel and you return it there at the end of the trip. It fit into our regular room at Pop Century (probably the smallest rooms on-site) - It was something like $100 for four days. Totally worth the price and convenience of having it all the time. Was easy to get onto the monorail, bus and the boat from Epcot to MGM. And no waiting in lines or worrying if there is one available at the next park.
